A memorial is a lasting symbol of remembrance; this brochure depicts some of the limitless designs, materials, and carvings in groups that represent their intended use and site. As the designs shown in this brochure are representative of popular ones, it is worth remembering that any design can generally be produced in any material. Bear in mind, though, that intricate carvings usually made in marble cannot always be reproduced in granite. If you have seen a memorial that you like, and have a photograph or sketch of it, let us see it. We can work from that to produce something which is tailored to your taste. Tel: 01298 23056 Email: admin@percivalfunerals.co.uk All cemeteries and churchyards have regulations concerning the size, design and materials that can be used for memorials. In many cases these regulations are intended to protect precious space and an environment that can be many hundreds of years old. With our local knowledge we can advise you on designs, sizes and finishes that will be acceptable at the diocese or cemetery authorities. We advise that at least 6 months should elapse between an interment and the erection of a memorial to allow the soil to settle. Stone Types Granite Granite is the most durable and long lasting monumental material. It is virtually maintenance free and is available in a wide range of colours. The hardness of granite does make carved designs more difficult and designs are often etched onto the stone. Our masons can create any feature you want. Marble Marble is a softer stone than granite and is the best material for sculpture and carving. Marble is also porous and will weather over time causing the white appearance to age naturally. This process can be slowed down if the memorial is regularly cleaned. Other natural stones such as Yorkstone and Portland provide a more traditional appearance, similar to those normally seen in churchyards. Natural stone Most widely used in churchyards it is porous and weathers with algae and lichens. Predominantly buff in colour. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1 Regal Grey 2 Balmoral Red Granite 3 Emerald Pearl 4 Orissa Green 5 Bahama Blue 6 Blue Pearl 7 Karin Grey Granite 8 Indian Black Granite 9 Portland Stone Page 18
