September 23, 2017 Law Ministry approves Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill The Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill was approved by the Law Ministry on the 18th Sept 2017. The Bill will empower the Government to seize the properties of Economic Offenders who have defaulted or run away from India, through a new provision in the law. According to the Bill, a Fugitive Economic offender means one against whom an arrest warrant has been issued for an economic offence and the offender refuses to return to India to face the prosecution. West Bengal gets $300 million aid from Asian Development Bank for fiscal reforms The Manila headquartered Asian Development Bank has given a $300 million aid to the West Bengal Government for undertaking fiscal reforms in the State. This will make public services more affordable, accessible and of a higher quality than at present. The reforms will be implemented in a period of two years. The reforms also include improved tax monitoring and support for information technology systems in tax and land administration. Indian Army launches Operation Sadhbhavana for National Integration Beginning with the states of Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern States, the Indian Army on the 21st Sept 2017, has launched Operation Sadhbhavana. Under this programme, the Army undertakes various civic action programmes which are aimed at winning the hearts of people and aligning them with the National Integration. The Sadhbhavana tour is organized by the 109 Infantry Brigade of the Indian Army. INS Kalavari: India s first home built submarine handed over to Indian Navy India s first home built submarine INS Kalavari was handed over to the Indian Navy on the 22nd Sept 2017. The ship has been built indigenously by the Mazagon Dock in Mumbai. This is Indian Navy s first new conventional submarine in 20 years. It is the first of the six Scorpion submarines being built by the Mazagon Dock in Mumbai. Himachal Pradesh, First State to Launch Electric Bus Service in India The northern state of Himachal Pradesh has become the first State in the country to launch Electric Buses. The Buses have been introduced in the 51 km long journey between Manali and Rohtang Pass. The move was made amidst concern over increasing environmental degradation in the Rohtang Pass area due to plying of diesel taxis. With this initiative, the state has become the first in the world to ply electric buses at an altitude of 13 thousand feet. Her wealth was estimated to be at $39.5 billion, making her the richest woman in the world and the 13th richest person in the world. She was born in Paris. Jake LaMotta, the legendary boxing champion passes away Jake LaMotta, former boxing champion whose life of violence in and out of the ring was portrayed in the movie "Raging Bull," passed away in Miami. He was 91 and died of complications of pneumonia. Fighting mostly as a middleweight and known as the "Raging Bull" and "Bronx Bull," LaMotta finished his 13-year career with 83 victories (30 by knockout), 19 losses and four draws. He was ranked 52nd in the list of 80 best fighters in the year 2002.
