Getting Started 1 On the Spellodrome homepage, click Sign In 2 Enter your username and password to sign in. Navigate through the main areas of Spellodrome using the buttons across the bottom of the Student Console. 1
Spellodrome Content & Word Lists In My Word List, you can see the words that your teacher has assigned to you for the week. Click on one of the lists to see all of the words in the set. Click on a word to hear it and to take you to word training. Click on the speaker icon to hear the word again. Click write to hear the word in a sentence and then try to spell it yourself. 2
Spellodrome Content & Word Lists My Word List After writing the word in the example, do one of the following to submit the word. Click Check. Click Enter on the virtual keyboard. Press Enter on your physical keyboard. At any time, click exit to go back to the word list. 3
My Word List and Bonus Games My Word List games are spelling games made up of words from your list. Word Detective Objective - This is an exciting game where you compete against Mr. D. Tective. The objective is to identify the hidden word. To win, the student must find the last letter to complete the word. Instructions Choose a letter you think is in the word. If you choose correctly, it remains your turn. If the letter you chose is not found in the word, it will become Mr. D. Tective s turn. The pink time bar shows how much time you have left for that turn. If you do not select a letter before the time runs out, it will become Mr. D. Tective s turn. You can see how much time Mr. D. Tective has left by looking at his blue time bar. When a letter is selected, it cannot be selected a second time and will be greyed out. If the letter chosen is correct, the player s box will light up green. If the letter chosen is not correct, the player s box will turn red. The player who selects the final letter to complete the word wins the game! If you win, you will earn 50 points! 4
My Word List and Bonus Games My Word List games are spelling games made up of words from your list. Words in Pieces Objective - Match up two puzzle pieces to form a word. There are 16 words to be found. Instructions To match the pieces, locate two pieces that belong together to form a word. Drag one piece to match with the other. The list of words is displayed in the bottom bar. When a word is identified it will be greyed out in the list. Your score is shown in the bar next to the list of words. When you have matched all the words, you will earn 50 points! You can exit the game at any time by clicking the Exit button. 5
My Word List and Bonus Games My Word List games are spelling games made up of words from your list. Word List Workout Objective - Listen to the audio and type the correct word in each of the 16 sentences. You will earn 10 points for each correct sentence. Instructions The audio will say the word, followed by an example of the word in a sentence. You can either type the word manually on your keyboard or select the letters using the virtual keyboard. There is a time limit of three minutes for each sentence. Listen to the word and type it correctly within this time frame. If you type a word correctly, a green tick mark will appear. If you type an incorrect word, a red cross mark will appear, followed by the correct spelling of the word. To listen to the audio again, click the speaker icon. You have three lives to complete the 16 sentences, which are displayed at the bottom of the screen. If all three lives are lost, the game will end automatically. The progress bar will show you how many answers you have completed. Exit the game at any time by clicking the Exit button on the top right-side of the page. 6
My Word List and Bonus Games Bonus games are extra word list games where you can learn new words and earn additional points. Crossword Objective - A traditional crossword game with clues and audio to solve an exciting puzzle. The objective is to use the clues to identify words that fit in the corresponding boxes. Instructions Click on the clue to hear the word and sentence. The audio will say the word followed by the sentence. You can either type the word manually on your keyboard or select the letters using the virtual keyboard. When you spell a word correctly, the box will turn green and the clue will be crossed out. If you spell a word incorrectly, the box will remain white, indicating that you need to correct your answer. Click Reset to restart the game. Click Erase Mistakes to check your answers. When you have completed all words, click the submit button to end the game and earn 100 points! 7
Live Spellodrome Objective A live head to head game where you race against another player to see who can answer 10 questions the fastest. The game has three levels Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. These levels are sorted in ascending order of difficulty and can be selected as per your requirement. In Level 1, you will earn 10 points per word and a total of 100 points. In Level 2, you will earn 15 points per word and a total of 150 points. In Level 3, you will earn 20 points per word and a total of 200 points. In addition to earning these points, you also have the challenge of beating your best time to earn shopping credits to spend in the Facemaker shop. Instructions On the Live Spellodrome home page, you can select Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3, depending on the difficulty level that you want to play, select World or Single Player, and then click GO. If you select Single Player and click GO, the game will begin immediately. GO 8
Live Spellodrome Instructions (cont.) If you select World and click GO, the game will first search for the country of the second player. If the game is unable to find a second player, you will be matched with a computer opponent. If you simply click GO without selecting the level, world or single player the game will select Level 1 by default and you will be matched with another player from around the World. Live Spellodrome Instructions (cont.) You will get a time limit of three minutes to answer ten questions correctly. This time frame allows you to listen and type the word. The audio will first read the word, followed by an example of the word in a sentence. You can either type the word manually or select the letters using the virtual keyboard, and then press Enter. The progress bar indicates the progress of the game and moves forward each time a question is answered correctly. You have three lives. Each time you answer incorrectly you will lose one. If you lose all three lives, the game will end automatically. 10
Live Spellodrome Results If you spell 10 words correctly, a CONGRATULATIONS pop-up appears. If you play as a single player, you earn 10 shopping credits for beating your best time. If you play against an opponent, you can win: 5 shopping credits if you win a game without losing any of your lives. 10 shopping credits if you beat your best time. 15 shopping credits if you win a game without losing any of your lives and beat your best time. When you click Close on the Congratulations pop-up, the Game Results pop-up appears, which provides a summary of your performance along with the time and score. This includes a list of the sentences that you attempted, which includes correct and incorrect answers. Click exit to return to the home page of Live Spellodrome. On the Spellodrome home page, you can click My Results to get a consolidated view of your results on all the levels that you have played in Live Spellodrome. 11
Writing Fun Writing Fun is a variety of writing samples covering a range of text types. With Writing Fun, you can even create your own writing samples. Instructions There are ten types of texts that you can access. Click on the radio button learning the desired text type. to begin There are six examples to describe each text type. Select the example to find out more about each text type. Tips on the right-hand side of the page explain the examples in more detail. In addition to learning about text types, you can also learn how to write a letter, invitation, email, and news. Select the button to start writing. Click Downloads and Printables or Print to print a copy of the content that can be used offline to meet the needs of all learning styles. Click Back to go back to the Spellodrome home page. 12
Results, Reports and Rewards My Results Check your progress each week in My Results. This section shows all the words that you have answered correctly and incorrectly. If you select the word from the incorrect list it will take you to Word Training. If you then spell this word correctly three times in Word Training it will move to the correct list. 13
Results, Reports and Rewards You can also keep track of your progress in the My Scorecard section. This will help you see your progress and achievements across all the different areas of Spellodrome. 14
Results, Reports and Rewards Millennium Gallery contains all of the awards and certificates you have earned in Spellodrome. If you earn 1000 points in a week, you will receive a Star Award, along with a certificate. Keep it up for four weeks and you ll get a Galaxy Award! Click on each certificate to view and print your certificate. At any time, click Exit to go back to the Spellodrome home page. 15
