Submittal Bulletin TE-7700 Series Issue Date July 10, 2003 TE-7700 Series Radio Frequency (RF) Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System The TE-7700 Series RF Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System consists of a TE-7710 Series RF Wireless Temperature and Set Point, and a TE-7720 or TE-7730 Series RF Receiver. Together, these components monitor the temperature set point and zone temperature, and transmit this data to the receiver at predefined intervals. The information is translated into a control signal that works directly with a wide variety of Johnson Controls and compatible competitors digital controllers in Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. The TE-7700 Series RF Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System uses 900 MHz spread-spectrum technology to prevent accidental and unauthorized interference, and to provide better propagation characteristics within the building. Field-addressable DIP switches establish a unique, secure address between each transmitter and receiver. The TE-7700 system provides indication of RF signal strength and low battery. Indication of zone bus communication is also provided on the TE-7720 Series RF Receiver. To optimize comfort in larger zones, a single receiver can average the measured temperature of up to four transmitters in the zone, or select the highest or lowest measured temperature of the zone. Optional signal strength site survey tools are available to determine the appropriate location of the RF wireless temperature sensing system, prior to its installation. These fast-update, 5-second interval tools verify that the RF signal strength is sufficient to ensure proper operation. Figure 1: TE-7700 Series RF Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System Note: The TE-7700 Series RF Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System consists of a TE-7710 Series RF Wireless Temperature and Set Point, and a TE-7720 Series RF Receiver (for zone bus interface with Johnson Controls VMA1400 Series Digital Controllers) or a TE-7730 Series RF Receiver (for analog interface with Johnson Controls AS-AHU, AS-UNT, AS-VAV, DX-9100, and compatible competitors digital controllers). Features and Benefits RF Wireless Design Improved Application Flexibility Allows for quick, economical, and low-maintenance installation, reducing total installed cost Provides an alternative to hardwired room temperature sensing counterparts, especially in installations where building aesthetics (such as solid walls or ceilings, temporary walls, or decorative surfaces) would normally hinder hardwiring Continued on next page... 2003 Johnson Controls, Inc. 1 Code No. LIT-1201504 www.johnsoncontrols.com

System Operation The TE-7700 Series RF Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System is designed to work directly with Johnson Controls and compatible competitors digital controllers in HVAC systems, to monitor the temperature set point and zone temperature. This RF system consists of a wireless TE-7710 Series Temperature and Set Point, and a TE-7720 or TE-7730 Series Receiver. Figures 5 and 6 illustrate the relationship between the TE-7710 Series, the TE-7720 or TE-7730 Series Receiver, and the digital controller. The TE-7710 Series RF Wireless and the TE-7720-0 RF Receiver with zone bus interface function with Johnson Controls VMA1400 Series Digital Controllers. The RF receiver outputs zone temperature, temperature set point, field strength measurements, and low battery indication via the zone bus. The TE-7710 Series RF Wireless and the TE-7730-0 RF Receiver with analog interface function with Johnson Controls AS-AHU, AS-UNT, AS-VAV, DX-9100, and compatible competitors digital controllers. Compatible models should have analog inputs that are scalable to accept a 0 to 5 VDC signal for zone temperature and temperature set point (if required), and binary inputs for low battery indication and occupancy status (if required). Note: Due to the 900 MHz operating frequency of the TE-7700 Series RF Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System, this product is generally not acceptable for use outside of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, or South America. The battery-operated transmitter of the TE-7700 Series RF Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System communicates the temperature set point and zone temperature approximately every 60 seconds. These 60-second transmission intervals provide optimal HVAC control, while conserving battery life. The transmitted information is combined with a unique, secure DIP switch selectable address and other supporting data prior to transmission. To optimize comfort in larger zones, a single receiver can average the measured temperature of up to four transmitters in the zone, or select the highest or lowest measured temperature of the zone. In multiple transmitter applications requiring set point adjustment, only one of the transmitters needs to include set point adjustment capability. A receiver with the same address as the transmitter receives the transmitted information and converts the data into the appropriate units and electrical format to be understood by the digital controller. This information also indicates the transmitter battery condition, to warn supervisory equipment in advance when the battery needs to be replaced. The zone bus link of the TE-7720-0 RF Receiver also includes diagnostic data, such as field strength measurements and transmission number, to help with commissioning and site evaluation. A three-level RF signal strength LED minimizes the need for pre-installation signal strength measurements using a site survey tool. A continuous illumination of the three-level RF signal strength LED indicates that the receiver has power and is ready for operation. Transmission intervals occur approximately every 60 seconds, with three-level LED indication occurring immediately after every transmission. A second zone bus LED on the TE-7720-0 RF Receiver provides direct, visual indication of communication between the receiver and the Johnson Controls VMA1400 Series Digital Controller. A second low battery LED on the TE-7730-0 RF Receiver provides convenient, advance indication of a low battery condition on the transmitter. A continuous illumination of the low battery LED indicates that the transmitter battery needs to be replaced. A manual occupancy override pushbutton on the TE-7710 Series allows the occupant to control the temperature of a zone by overriding time-of-day scheduling. This feature allows the end user to signal the receiver that the space is occupied after normal business hours or on weekends. Optional signal strength site survey tools are available to determine the appropriate location of the TE-7700 Series RF Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System prior to its installation. These fast-update, 5-second interval site survey tools verify that the RF transmission signal is sufficient to ensure proper system operation. Refer to the TE-7700 Series Radio Frequency (RF) Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System Product Bulletin (LIT-1201503) for additional product information. 6 TE-7700 Series Radio Frequency (RF) Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System Submittal Bulletin

Recommended Applications Using the mounting hardware included with each component, the TE-7700 Series RF Wireless Temperature Sensing System is ideal for installations where building aesthetics would normally hinder hardwiring. Recommended applications for this RF wireless system are numerous and include the following: museums, historical buildings, atriums, or other sites where building retention and its historical preservation are important office buildings, university campuses, educational facilities, correctional facilities, and other structures that incorporate brick or solid concrete walls and/or ceilings buildings featuring marble, granite, glass, mirrored, wood veneer, or other decorative surfaces that present significant challenges when attempting hardwiring office buildings, retail stores, and other commercial real estate where tenant turnover is frequent and temporary walls and ceilings are common stadiums, arenas, gymnasiums, convention centers, airports, zoos, and other locations that feature large, open spaces buildings containing asbestos walls or other biohazards that cannot be disturbed TE-7700 Series Radio Frequency (RF) Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System Submittal Bulletin 7
