Name: Poynton SHEN Nominated by: Jacky Luk, Bevan Chuang Name: David WONG Nominated by: Connie Kum, Richard Leung and Editor for ACCC Quarterly Newsletter Hi my name is David Wong and was born in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. My parents owned a green grocer store and throughout our primary school years my four other siblings became accustomed to the hard work ethic of working in the shop and helping out. After schooling and university in Wellington I qualified in accountancy and business administration. I joined a chartered accounting firm and qualified with the organisation before moving into a French merchant bank Indosuez. During my heady days of bilingual French I met my wife Helen who by the way was not impressed with my French. We married in 1987 and embarked on our OE to London and I soon took the appointment of Chief Accountant at Indosuez London branch. Our eldest daughter Samantha was born in London and we successfully travelled Europe with a young toddler in the back of a red Ford Escort. Returning to NZ in 1992 we extended our family with a son Declan and three years later our youngest daughter Davina. My return to NZ saw me join Bank of New Zealand and enjoyed a variety of roles from Wholesale Banking, system development and financial governance. We transferred up to Auckland in 2000 where I was the Financial Controller and then began some intensive travel to our parent bank National Australia Bank in Melbourne with a variety of projects including SAP implementation, International Accounting Standards and Basel II accreditation. My Rotary career started in 2002 and over the years I have been a President of the Rotary Club of Auckland Harbourside (2009/10) and more recently District Chair of Public Relations. I have enjoyed my community work immensely and I am also the Vice Chairman of NZ Chinese Association Auckland and executive committee member of Auckland Chinese Community Centre. Recently I ran for the local council board and although not gaining a seat benefited personally from the electioneering experience. I am a sixties pop fan and my ipod reflects the era. Name: Elsie WONG 黃陳鳳和 Nominated by: Connie Kum and Percy Kai Fong Being part of the ACCC committee these last two years has been a rewarding and pleasurable experience and most likely saved me from a state of ennui. Through the constant planning of events and activities we aim to encourage our young people to involve themselves in community service and shine in whatsever they do; two key values that are part of the psyche of our people. I am a proud third generation NZ born Chinese who is privileged to live in a community of diverse cultures experiencing wonderful opportunities that I would never as a teenager have dreamed would be my luck to enjoy. Our world has shrunk with globalisation. Travel and education make it possible for us to be forever on the move...learning new skills and widening our circle of friends the world over. But the one constant in my life is the pride I have of being Chinese and seeing the next generations embrace the values that their parents and grandparents have instilled in them. I am putting myself forward once again for nomination for a committee position. I believe because I am young at heart, have the energy of an EVER READY BATTERY and the ability to relate to people across all generations I have much to offer still, to the Chinese community and feel the responsibility to ensure our young people do not forget their roots yet are well grounded and not conflicted in their sense of identity. For our elderly, we have a responsibility to look after each other and help tick off the never ending "bucket-list". Name: Tony WONG 王定熊 Nominated by: Peter Pan, Alfred Li
