The following dates correspond to these software versions: VL1000 3/25/02 4/10/02 4/15/02 4/25/02 5/16/02 6/25/02 7/09/02 8/08/02 For instructions on downloading and installing VARI LITE luminaire software, refer to technical bulletin LSW-002. Note: The number previously associated with each software version has been removed to prevent confusion. The version will now be identified by its date, as it is displayed in the luminaire. Page 2 of 5 Release Notes Improvements SV 8/08/02 Arc dimmer corrected to close fully at zero. Gobo control modified to reduce noise while holding position. SV 7/09/02 Modified rotational speed of rotating gobo. The slowest speed of rotation has been reduced. (CAUTION: This change may affect how the luminaire responds to cue data stored with previous versions.) The minimum rate in v4.6: 1 revolution takes 2.53 minutes The minimum rate in v4.7: 1 revolution takes 15.41 minutes: SV 6/25/02 Range Action 0-32525 CW Rotation 32527-33047 Stop 33049-65535 CCW Rotation Doubled speed of shutter blades. (CAUTION: When playing back previously stored cues, the shutters will move faster than when they were originally stored.) Added move-curve correction to Arc dimmer. This improvement makes the output linear, so that a curve may be applied with expected results. (CAUTION: An intensity level change will be evident in previously stored cues with values from 0-50%.) Corrected timed moves for mechanisms requiring a move curve. Colors will now use a consistent time when performing short moves near the center of travel.
Page 3 of 5 Expanded Color Mix test to include intermediate positions and groups moving separately as follows: SV 5/16/02 Step Action 1 All Open 2 All Closed 3 Mag/Diffusion Closed 4 Blue/Green Closed 5 All at 50% Increased color/diffuser speed. It is approximately three times faster. Increased arc dimmer speed. It is slightly faster. Partial recalibration of mechanisms now possible. It works like any other reset. (For arc luminaires, the dimmer is included in all recalibrations.) To initiate, set control channel to proper value for three seconds or more, then immediately take it to zero. The options available are listed below. DMX values are +/- 2. 40% (DMX 102) blue/amber/magenta/diffuser 45% (DMX 115) rotating gobo/index 50% (DMX 128) edge/zoom 55% (DMX 140) beam size iris/shutter Corrected pan/tilt disable via menu (previously responded to DMX commands). Reduced edge calibration speed and power. Reduced shutter blade holding power. Adjusted shutter blade hysteresis.
Page 4 of 5 SV 4/25/02 Gobo wheel and index holding power to 100%. Gobo wheel minimum speed decrease for console timing moves. Adjusted pan and tilt calibration functions so that they find edge of their sensor more accurately. Pan and tilt encoder correction adjusted to compensate more accurately. Pan and tilt timed moves now use encoder correction. Created unique motor drive curve for pan and tilt to minimize shaking at low speeds. Corrected speed targets after interrupted moves. Average sensor samples are now used for determining sensor state. Beam iris calibration power reduced. All Test function adjusted to use gobo wheel Position 3 (spin). Shutter self-test time extended. Adjusted calibration moves so that they complete before processing new commands. Repeated attempts at recalibrating a mechanism with a sensor are now allowed. Corrected calibration procedure for failed sensor conditions. SV 4/15/02 Improvements to rotating shutter mechanism: 1) increased power, 2) modified range limits. Gobo wheel now takes shortest path. Improved color hysteresis correction. Corrected bug in pan calibration. Reduced zoom power to reduce overall luminaire noise. Smoothed motion of edge function.
Page 5 of 5 SV 4/10/02 Improvements to self-test function: 1) default beam position set to open, 2) expanded rotating gobo sensor test to account for possibility of recalibration, 3) set gobo rotate to Position 1 during gobo index test. Eliminated interaction between DMX and test mode operation. Timed moves of rotating mechanisms now take shortest path. Corrected logic for triggering a recalibration check. Corrected hysteresis calculations for certain mechanisms. Corrected profile calculations for rotating mechanisms. Added gobo index and wheel dynamic tuning to help prevent recalibrations. Pan and tilt modified to be more responsive to interrupted commands. Improvements to color functions: 1) adjusted hysteresis values, 2) proportional gain, 3) initial position following calibration. Improvement to edge functions: 1) adjusted hysteresis value, 2) added dynamic tuning, 3) decreased power level to reduce noise. Reduced speed of rotating shutter mechanism. Improvements to shutter blade action: 1) now calibrates to full position, 2) added dynamic tuning, 3) modify current waveform for these motors. SV 3/25/02 Pan/tilt maximum speed has been increased. Hysteresis correction (adjustment for interrupted moves) has been improved for the following mechanisms: gobo index, color/diffuser, edge, zoom, dimmer, and beam-size iris (if applicable). The Fixture Hours and Lamp Hours functions now work correctly for both the arc and incandescent versions of the VL1000 luminaire. (Note that Lamp Hours is not applicable for incandescent luminaires.) Standby is now supported. This function reduces arc lamp power after three minutes. The beam-size iris calibration direction is fixed. (Previously, this mechanism calibrated in the wrong direction.)
