Inline-varnishing unit Adjustable rollers o transfer more or less varnish
Special varnishing matt/gloss effects with hybrid and UV: Radiation curing inks and varnishing are used for hybrid print finishing. Suitable printing machine equipment with UV varnishing unit, UV intermediate and end-of-press curing are required. In the last ink unit a special oil-based effect varnish is applied partially or laminar. In the following varnishing unit an especially determined UV varnish is applied over the full surface. The areas varnished with the oil-based varnish show either a pearl effect or, depending on the oil-based varnish used, a gloss/matt effect.
Inline-varnishing Unit Chambered doctor blade system Change of varnish quantity by replacement of screen roller Regarding varnishing with anilox rolls the maintenance is very important for the varnish result. In case an anilox of 10 ccm, which is recommended for protection varnishing with DS 11-40, DSM 11-40, DM 13-40 or DM 10-40, is soiled the right varnish portion cannot be applied and with a high portion of color cracking would be an expectable result.
Tension cracks of the varnish film are caused by shrinking of the varnish (shrink tension). It occurs if there is an unfavorable ratio between ink and varnish drying, i.e. either the setting of the in print is too slow or the one of the dispersion vanish is too fast. The risk of caking is higher in case of higher color imposition. Often it only occurs on the withdrawn control sheet or the first sheets of the stack. The recommended setting of the dryer is about 10% to 15% IR und 80% hot air with respect to dispersion varnish. This leads to a stacking temperature to 28 to 32 degrees. Temperatures above or below could lead to blocking. The recommended setting of the dryer with respect to UV-varnish depends on the ink and the substrate. The indicated viscosity relates to the flowing-out time from the 4-mm-DIN viscosity cup at a varnish temperature of 20 C; it is recommend to stir the varnish before measuring. Viscosity is temperature-dependent, the warmer or colder the varnish the lower or higher the viscosity. Plastic viscosity cups are better suited than metal viscosity cups as there is no temperature transfer between metal and varnish. Please temper metal viscosity cups with warm water to 20 C. In connection with high printing speed, an incorrect adjusted viscosity can lead to spraying. Wetting disturbances and cracking are also possible consequences. Viscosity cup with 4mm DIN hole Pearltec produces its dispersion varnish with a special developed procedure with resins and therefore achieve a very high gloss in combination with a high rub resistance and continuous gloss result on ink and substrate..
All Pearltec dispersion varnish will be produced in different tanks. They contain a low amount of water and ammoniac. The advantage can be seen with respect to the low odor development. Therefore they are all suitable for varnishing of primer packaging without direct contact to food. Regarding the migration harmless printing on food packaging Pearltec offers special varnish that are SQTS certified. These special varnish are DSHLM90, DHLM10-40 and DGLM11-40. The migration harmless ink BoFood MU of Epple Druckfarben consisting of food based raw materials and Pearltec dispersion varnish DGLM are SQTS certified as ink/varnish system. This is an ideal solution that meets both legal and the requirements of the food packaging market regarding printability of the inks.
The drawback effect is a loss of gloss points between the gloss results of wet measuring proportional to dry measuring. Influencing variables are ink properties, ink film thickness, printing substrates, varnish quantity and mechanic mixing of ink and varnish. The varnish DH10-40, DG11-40 and DS 11-40 have a small drawback effect due to the special resins and the production method. The expected varnish result: The varnish result after about 12 hours:
A specialty of Pearltec is the super high gloss water based varnish DSH 90 with matching materials and minimum varnish of 7 g / m² wet in combination with anilox roller from 20 ccm; UV gloss similar values are achieved. An improvement of the gloss result will be achieved by using inks without wax. A new development at Pearltec is the dispersion varnish Invisible DU10-40 for uncoated papers. The properties of this water based varnish among others are a good wet blocking resistance, no change of the haptic of the paper and having a very high rub resistance on inks. Another new development of Pearltec is the high rub resistant and water-repellent water based varnish Caron, a sample to be used for detergent packaging.
