INTRODUCTION Congratulations on purchasing an Ozito Hammer Drill. We aim to provide quality tools at an affordable price. We hope you will enjoy using this tool for many years. The Ozito Hammer Drill OZHD1050WA has been designed for drilling timber, steel and masonry. This tool is intended for DIY use only. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS! Warning! When using mains-powered tools, basic safety precautions, including the following, should always be followed to reduce risk of fire, electric shock, personal injury and material damage. Read the whole manual carefully and make sure you know how to switch the tool off, in an emergency, before operating the tool. Save these instructions and other documents supplied with this tool for future reference. ELECTRICAL SAFETY The electric motor has been designed for 230V and 240V only. Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate. Note: The supply of 230V and 240V on Ozito tools are interchangeable for Australia and New Zealand. This tool is double insulated in accordance with AS/NZS 60745-1: therefore no earth wire is required. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by an electrician or a power tool repairer in order to avoid a hazard. Note: Double insulation does not take the place of normal safety precautions when operating this tool. The insulation system is for added protection against injury resulting from a possible electrical insulation failure within the tool. Using an Extension Lead Always use an approved extension lead suitable for the power input of this tool. Before use, inspect the extension lead for signs of damage, wear and ageing. Replace the extension lead if damaged or defective. When using an extension lead on a reel, always unwind the lead completely. Use of an extension lead not suitable for the power input of the tool or which is damaged or defective may result in a risk of fire and electric shock. 4

GENERAL SAFETY! Warning! Read all instructions. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. The term Power Tool in all of the warnings listed below refers to your mains operated (corded) power tool or battery operated (cordless) power tool. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS 1) WORK AREA a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents. b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. 2) ELECTRICAL SAFETY a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. 3) PERSONAL SAFETY a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. b) Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries. c) Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before plugging in. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in power tools that have the switch on invites accidents. d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. 5

GENERAL SAFETY (cont.) 6 f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of these devices can reduce dust related hazards. 4) POWER TOOL USE AND CARE a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that can not be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. c) Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. d) Store idle power tools, unplugged & out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc., in accordance with these instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from intended could result in a hazardous situation. h) This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. i) Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. 5) SERVICE a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. b) Recommendations for the use of a residual current device with a rated residual current of 30mA or less. c) If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR HAMMER DRILLS Before drilling into walls, ceilings etc, ensure that there are no concealed power cables or pipes in the cavity. Always use the side handle. This gives you greater control if the drill accessory should become jammed. Keep the cord clear of the drill accessory, do not wrap the cord around your arm or wrist. Wear ear protectors with impact drills. Exposure to noise can cause hearing loss. Use auxiliary handles supplied with the tool. Loss of control can cause personal injury.! Warning! Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling and other construction activities contain chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemicals are: Lead from lead-based paints Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products Arsenic and chromium from chemically treated timber Your risk from exposure to these chemicals varies, depending on how often you do this type of work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated area and work with approved safety equipment, such as dust masks that are specially designed to filter out microscopic particles. OPERATION BEFORE ATTACHING OR REMOVING ANY ACCESSORIES BE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE HAMMER DRILL FROM THE POWER SUPPLY Attaching the Side Handle The side handle will provide additional control, support and guidance for the drill. The handle is adjustable to any position around the 360º handle collar mount. Loosen the handle grip by rotating it anti clockwise to the handle collar. Slide the collar of the handle over the chuck and onto the handle collar mount of the drill. Fasten and secure the handle grip back to the handle collar by turning the handle grip clockwise. Adjusting the Depth Rod Loosen the side handle by turning it anti clockwise. Insert and then adjust the depth rod so that the drill bit extends beyond the end of the rod to the required drilling depth. To secure the depth rod in place tighten the side handle by turning it clockwise. 7

OPERATION (cont.) Chuck Inserting Bits Open the jaws slightly larger than the bit you are inserting. Insert the drill bit up to the flutes making sure it is centred in the jaws. Tighten the chuck by turning the chuck sleeve. Once the jaws have clamped evenly around the drill bit, use the key provided to tighten the chuck fully. Always tighten the chuck using all three holes, this will ensure a firm grip on the accessory. You may need to occassionally check the tightness of the chuck during drilling as it may vibrate loose. On/Off Switch To turn the tool On depress the On/Off switch. The tool can be locked on by first depressing the On/Off switch and then the lock on button. Once the lock on button has been pushed in, the switch will remain locked on. To turn the tool Off, release the switch. To turn the tool Off when the lock on button is engaged, simply squeeze and release the switch. Your drill is also provided with a Speed Selection Dial (8), this is used to pre set any required speed by turning the dial. Once you have set the dial you are then limited to the speed range of 0 to the speed selected. Forward/Reverse Lever The direction of the chuck is controlled by the forward/reverse lever located above the variable speed switch (7). FOR FORWARD ROTATION: Move the lever to the left, so the lever protrudes on the right side. FOR REVERSE ROTATION: Move the lever to the right, so the lever protrudes on the left side. When the forward/reverse lever is set in the middle, this locks the variable speed switch (7) preventing it from being turned on. Note: Do not change the direction of rotation while the chuck is still in motion. Adjusting Between Hammer and Drill Mode The mode selector indicates the hammer and drill mode by two separate icons. The hammer icon indicates hammer mode. The drill icon indicates drill mode. Note: When drilling in hammer mode carbide tipped drill bits should be used and the drill must be set in forward rotation. Dual Speed This hammer drill has two speed options. For 0-1000/min set the speed selection knob (10) to the setting. For 0-3000/min set the speed selection knob (10) to the setting. 8

OPERATION (cont.) Operation Depress and release the variable speed switch (7) to make sure the variable speed switch (7) is not locked on before connecting it to a power supply. Check the forward / reverse lever (9) for the correct setting. Secure the material to be drilled in a vice or with clamps to stop it from turning as the drill rotates. Plug the hammer drill into a power supply. Hold the drill firmly and place the bit at the point to be drilled. Depress the variable speed switch (7) to start the hammer drill. Move the drill bit into the work piece applying only enough pressure to keep the bit cutting. Note: Do not force the hammer drill or apply side pressure to elongate a hole. Let the hammer drill and bit do the work. Helpful Tips When drilling hard, smooth surfaces, use a centre punch to mark the desired hole location. This measure will prevent the drill bit from slipping off centre as you start the hole. However, the variable speed feature allows you to start holes without centre punching. To accomplish this, operate the hammer drill at a low speed until you start the hole. When drilling metals, use a light oil on the drill bit to keep it from overheating. The oil will prolong the life of the bit and increase drilling action. If the bit jams in the work piece or if the drill stalls, stop the tool immediately. Remove the bit from the work piece and determine the reason for jamming. MAINTENANCE Keep the ventilation slots of the hammer drill clean at all times and prevent any foreign matter from entering. If the housing of the hammer drill requires cleaning do not use solvents but a moist soft cloth only. Never let any liquid get inside the tool. Never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid. No user serviceable parts. For all exchange of parts or repairs contact the manufacturer or service agent. Note: Ozito Industries will not be responsible for any damage or injuries caused by repairing of the hammer drill by an unauthorised person or by mishandling of the tool. 9
