I N T R O D U C T I O N VRT014 s a very smple devce whch can be used for authorsed door access, controllng gates, swtchng of remote equpments, car parkng systems, actvate/deactvate alarm systems and etc. Bascally ths devce can be used n places whch requre ON/OFF swtchng acton. Ths ON/OFF functonalty of VRT014 can be acheved by makng a phone call. Whenever a person calls VRT014, the devce compares the phone number of ncomng call wth the numbers stored n the memory of devce. If a match s found, t means the caller s an authorzed person. Due to ths VRT014 wll turn ON ts output, n short, sendng a sgnal to actvate the connected devce. VRT014 does not have any answer functon; therefore, the callng person does not have to pay any charges for the call. Up to 500 dfferent numbers can be stored n the memory of devce. In addtonal you can turn ON the relay by usng an external swtch nput. When a logcally low sgnal s gven to ths nput the output wll be turned ON. VRT014's output turns OFF always after relay s tmeout. The tmeout s programmable VRT014 can be confgured n two ways, a) By sendng an SMS b) By connectng the devce to a PC usng COM port nterface and the VRT014 confguraton software. Pcture 1. External vew and measurements of the devce Dmenson: 90 x 58 x 53 (mm) DESCR I P T I O N O F T H E DEVICE AN D PRINCIPLES OF F U N CTIONING The devce VRT014 conssts of a mcrocontroller and GSM modem. The mcrocontroller receves and processes sgnals. There are 4 lght dodes on the external board of the devce as shown n pcture 2. Pcture 2. Devce VRT014 The lght dode s drectly connected to the supply chan of the mcrocontroller. The lght dode Modem State s connected to the GSM modem and ts status depends on the operaton logc of the GSM modem and ts specfcatons (The dode may have no flashng). The lght dodes and Sgnal Strength are connected to the mcrocontroller and reflect the status of the devce. The lght dode reflects the sgnal status of actvatng the nternal relay. When the relay s actvated, the lght dode s also on. The lght dode Sgnal Strength reflects the of the sgnal receved va the GSM modem. When the s suppled, the lght dodes and Sgnal Strength reflect the start of actvatng the programme and ts varous stages. If the connecton s correct, the lght dodes are flashng alternately as specfed n the table below, and when the operaton status s actvated, they are operatng n accordance to ther man functons. 3

When the s suppled, the devce checks the whole nternal data base of numbers and operaton of the memory chp. If there s a memory error, the devce would not swtch to operaton mode and 2 pulses would be emtted by alternately by the lght dode Sgnal Strength. If the GSM modem s not functonng, the devce would not swtch to operaton mode and unnterrupted swft short pulses would be emtted by the lght dode Sgnal Strength. In the devce, the whole nternal data base of numbers s beng checked by checkng the control countng (CRC). If the control countng does not match, the devce would rewrte all settngs back to manufacturer s values: The enablng of the external swtch sgnal. The tme for swtchng off the relay s set at 5 sec. However, t s not beng used. The data base of numbers s deleted. When the devce s operatng, t s possble to connect a personal computer and do the confguraton. In addton, when data s beng transmtted from the devce to the personal computer and vce versa, t does not respond to calls and SMS messages. M AKING T H E DEVICE READY F O R W O R K After purchasng the devce t needs to be confgured,. e. the lst of numbers whch the devce would respond to must be recorded n the memory as well as the parameters of the swtchng-on sgnal of the operatng devce. When the devce s swtched on for the frst tme, ts data base of numbers s empty. The devce must be confgured by a personal computer and a programme snce the confguraton command by SMS messages may be receved only from numbers whch are already avalable n the data base. Note: The confguraton can be done after the devce s bought or at a later stage, when the devce has been prepared for use. The devce s fxed onto DIN board and connected as shown n the labellng on the body. Before usng the devce, nsert a SIM card wth an unlocked PIN code check. PIN code check may be unlocked by any moble phone or other approprate devce. For more comprehensve nformaton, please refer to the nternet servce provder, the owner of the SIM card. Pcture 3. Insertng SIM card Note: the SIM card may only be nserted whle the power supply of the devce s unplugged. After the devce s swtched on and confgured, t s ready for use. When the devce s turned on for the frst tme, please see f t s properly swtched on. 4

One only needs to watch the sgnals of the lght dodes: f the devce s swtched on properly, the sgnals of the lght dodes would be actvated as specfed n the table. Table 1. Boot stage sequences Turn-by-turn sgnals of lght Descrpton of the status dodes Lght dode s turned on and starts shnng wthout nterruptons. Sgnal strenght Sgnal strenght Sgnal strenght The lght dode Modem State may flash n accordance of the GSM modem logcs. (The dode may have no flashng). Lght dodes and Sgnal Strength are flashng by turns. Ths status lasts as long as the modem s n progress of beng connected to the operator s network. Sgnal strenght Sgnal strenght When the modem has been connected to the operator s network, the lght dode stops flashng and the lght dode Sgnal Strength starts flashng to reflect the of the sgnal beng receved. The lght dode s pulsng, and the quantty of pulses refers to the of the sgnal. One pulse refers to the lowest sgnal, 7 pulses refer o the hghest sgnal. When the devce reaches the last stage specfed n the table, t s ready for use. CONFIGURATION BY MEAN S OF SMS M E SSAG ES Note: the devce wll not respond to SMS that contans confguraton commands, unless senders phone number s entered to 0th poston n nternal database of phone numbers The devce s able to receve 3 types of command messages: 1. Recordng a number n the data base of numbers 2. Recordng the tme of the delayed swtchng-off-the-relay sgnal 3. Recordng the status of recevng an external swtchng-on-the-relay sgnal SMS message contanng a command for recordng a number s as follows: P#nnn=xxxxxxx; The symbol P should be n the frst poston, nstead of nnn there must be a number to be recorded n the devce memory, xxxxxxx means a recorded phone number whch the devce would respond to. 5

Example: P#001=+37012345678; - ths message means that the number +37012345678 must be recorded n the frst (1) poston. SMS message contanng a command for recordng the tme of the delay of the relay s as follows: PRTIMT=xxxxx; The symbol P should be n the frst poston, xxxxx means the recorded tme n mlseconds wthn whch the relay would be delayed. Example: PRTIMT =5000; ths message means that the relay must be delayed for 5 seconds after swtchng on. SMS message contanng a command for recordng the altered status of recevng an external sgnal (external swtch) s as follows: PSEN=x; The symbol P should be n the frst poston, x may mean 0 or 1. 1 means that VRT014 can't receve the external swtch sgnal. 0 means that the devce would swtch ON the relay after the external sgnal has been receved. Example: PSEN =0; means that the devce would swtch on the relay after the external sgnal has been receved. One SMS message may contan several messages contanng commands, and the messages must be separated by the symbol ;. Example: P#001=+37012345678;#002=+37023456789;RTIMT=5000;SEN=1; Ths message means that the number +37012345678 should be recorded n the 1 (frst) poston and the number +37023456789 n the 2 (second) poston, the relay must be delayed for 5 seconds after swtchng on and the external swtch sgnal s dsabled. There should be no unnecessary symbols or ntervals n the message. The changes take effect mmedately after the recepton of the SMS message. 6

CONFIGURATION BY MEAN S OF A P ER SONAL COMPUTER In order to confgure the devce usng a personal computer you should: Install Remote Swtch Confgurator Connect VRT014 to a PC usng a confguraton cable Start Remote Swtch Confgurator In pcture 4. you can see the man wndow of Remote Swtch Confgurator. It s dvded nto 3 sectons confguraton Search of a number n the lst The lst of numbers Control buttons Pcture 4. The man wndow of Remote Swtch Confgurator Confguraton of relay allows the devce to swtch from ON to OFF mode of the nner relay. Devce can swtch modes automatcally after a number of ms, whch can be entered n Tmeout (ms) feld. If an external source of a sgnal (button or other sensor) wll be requred n order to swtch ON mode, you should no place a tck at Dsable External Swtch. You can add up to 500 numbers n the lst of numbers. Note: you should add + sgn n front of every number. Remote Swtch Confgurator for VRT012 s not compatble wth VRT014. 7

Control buttons should be used to: Load the confguraton from fle - Load From Fle... Read the confguraton of the devce - Load From Devce Delete all felds - Clear All Save the confguraton of the devce to a fle Wrte To Fle Save the confguraton to devce s memory Wrte To Devce. Start workng wth Remote Swtch Confgurator by confgurng port Confgure Port. A port confguraton wndow s shown n pcture 5. You should select a Port whch a devce VRT014 s connected to and press OK. Pcture 5. Port Confguraton Wndow. Note: you should restart the devce after confguraton s saved to ts' memory. Just unplug the power source and plug t agan. 8

M ETHOD OF OPER A T I O N For the swtchng-on sgnal to be actvated (the connecton of nternal relay contacts), the user has to dal the devce s SIM card number. After havng receved one or two calls, the devce rejects t, f the call matches one of the numbers avalable n the nternal data base of the devce. If the number does not match, the devce would not respond to calls. The devce rejects the swtchng-on sgnal then the delay tme runs out, dependng on the confguraton of the devce. When the devce s operatng, the lst of numbers avalable n ts memory may be edted by means of SMS messages. Note: devce responds SMS that come from the number whch was entered at 0th poston n the nternal data base of numbers. I M P O R T ANT The sgn on the packagng means that the user s manual provded on a compact dsk must be read before usng the product. The sgn on the packagng means that the electrc and electronc equpment to be utlsed must be stored separately.
