Final Report on the 9th General Meeting of ACCMS-VO (Asian Consortium on Computational Materials Science - Virtual Organization) From 20th to 22nd, December, 2014 in OIST, Okinawa, JAPAN by Yoshiyuki Kawazoe (Chair) The 9 th General Meeting of ACCMS-VO was successfully held in the Conference Facility in Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), Okinawa, Japan from 20 th to 22 nd December. The 3-day conference was attended by a total of 107 participants which is the largest in the history of the ACCMS-VO conference series by the support of various organizations. ACCMS During the recent "International Workshop on Materials Design by Computer Simulation at Atomic and Electronic Levels", held at the Sendai International Center, during August 18-19, 2000 as part of the "International Symposium on Research and Education in the 21st Century -- The Role of Inter-University Academic and Student Exchange (ISRE2000)", Prof. Y. Kawazoe of the Institute for Materials

Research, Tohoku University, Sendai, proposed to enhance corporation in Asian region in the area of computational materials science. The suggestion was welcomed by several leading researchers from different countries (see list of those presented in the minutes of Sendai meeting). After mutual consultations, it was proposed to form an "Asian Consortium on Computational Materials Science (ACCMS)". A draft of the objectives and activities etc. of the ACCMS was prepared and Prof. Kawazoe was requested to initiate development of the home page so that we could get in touch with the community and welcome their suggestions. Accordingly, we welcome active workers to join this consortium and send their suggestions on various aspects to make it successful in strengthening corporation in Asian region. It is suggested to have the first formal meeting of ACCMS in India in the year 2001 where we could consolidate the inputs from different scientists and technologists and then give it a more formal shape. After 15 years of the history, ACCMS has become well-established and members working together on the net as a virtual organization (VO). We meet quite often to promote high level collaborative works with some number of members, but to make it more efficient we have decided to meet yearly from 2006, and organized in Tohoku University.. The present meeting is the 9 th meeting and firstly organized out of Sendai city. Program The conference covered a wide range of topics in computational physics, including condensed matter and materials physics, fluid dynamics, energy and environment, numerical methods for fast algorithms, multiscale modeling and simulation, density functional theory and beyond, visualization, etc. The conference program consisted of 2 keynote talks delivered by prominent scientists, Dr. Umesh Wagmare and Dr. JianTao Wang, 21 invited talks, 35 oral talks, and 34 poster presentations (see Appendix for the full list of talks and posters). The technical sessions of the conference were very well attended. The entire conference went smoothly and orderly, and all sessions proceeded according to the plan, without any significant delay or other problem.

Poster Session and Poster Awards The poster session was held from 7 to 9 pm on 20 th December, and was well attended. A total of 34 posters were presented. As usual three Best Poster Awards were presented to authors who best demonstrate high-quality research, display strong understanding of the material, and with excellent oral and visual presentation of their work. By the 8 member judging panel, consisting of distinguished scientists in computational physics worked very hard and finally decided to give the awards to the following young participants: (1) S. Sinthika, SRM Research Institute, SRM University, Kattankulathur-603203, Tamilnadu,India (2) Shandan Bai, Graduate School of Engineering, Tohoku University, 6-6, Aoba, Aramaki, Aoba-ku, Sendai 980-8579, Japan (3) Yusuke Noda, Department of Physics, Graduate School of Engineering, Yokohama National University, Yokohama,240-8501, Japan and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship (DC2)

Social Programs The conference banquet was held in the evening of 21 st December, in the Sun marina Hotel. Participants enjoyed a spectacular view of the blue Okinawa sea and special Okinawa music and dance show. On 22 nd Afternoon time, after the technical program finished most of the participants joined a tour to the Okinawa Churaumi (beautiful sea) Aquarium. Statistics of Participants The conference drew a total of 107 participants from 9 countries/regions as below; Japan 37, China 23, Taipei 11, Korea 8, India 7, Thailand 5, Kazakhstan 3, Singapore 3, Iran, 2, Hong-Kong 2, Russia 2, Vietnam 2, Malaysia 1, USA 1 Finance The ACCMS-VO organization provided fundamental environment. The conference received generous sonsorships from Office of Naval Research Global, Asian Office of Aerospace Research and Development, Okinawa Convention Bureau, Okinawa Institute of

Science and Technology, Computational Materials Science Initiative, Computational Materials Research Initiative, The Kajima Foundation, CHAM-Japan, Network Dynamics Corporation, Visual Technology, Hitachi Solutions East Japan, and Sangyo Times.
