From Fabric J, cut: seventeen 2 x WOF strips. Subcut: sixteen 2 x 20-1/2 block sashing strips Sew the remaining nine strips together, end-to-end, then trim to yield: fi ve 2 x 66-1/2 row sashing strips From the binding fabric, cut: eight 2-1/2 x WOF strips Assemble the Half-Square Triangle (HST) Units Step 1: Pair a 6 Fabric A and Fabric B square right sides together. Mark a diagonal on the wrong side of the lighter fabric. Sew 1/4 away on both sides of the marked line. Step 2: Cut on the marked line, creating two half-square triangle blocks. Press the seam toward the darker fabric. Trim to 5-1/2 square, if necessary. Repeat with all remaining Fabric A and B squares. Set aside the A/B HSTs for the A Blocks. Step 3: Repeat Steps 1-2 with the 6 Fabric C and Fabric D squares. Set aside the C/D HSTs for the B Blocks. page 4
Assemble the Template 1 Units 3 1 2 Style 1 Style 2 Style 3 Style 4 Step 4: This block is constructed using paper piecing. Sew the pieces in the order indicated on the templates, matching the fabrics to the illustration. Trim seam allowances to 1/4 as each new piece is added. Step 5: Trim the unit to the edge of the template, making a 5-1/2 square. Remove the paper backing. Repeat to make twenty-four of each style. Set Style 1 and Style 2 aside for the A Blocks. Set Style 3 and Style 4 aside for the B Blocks. Assemble the Template 2 Units 7 4 6 5 2 3 Style 1 1 Style 2 Style 3 Style 4 Step 6: This block is constructed using paper piecing. Sew the pieces in the order indicated on the templates, matching the fabrics to the illustration. Trim seam allowances to 1/4 as each new piece is added. Step 7: Trim the unit to the edge of the template, making a 5-1/2 square. Remove the paper backing. Repeat to make twelve of each style. Set Style 1 and Style 2 aside for the A Blocks. Assemble the A Blocks Step 8: Arrange the A Block units together in four rows of four, following the fabric placement and orientation in the Block Assembly Diagram. Sew the units together to form rows, pressing seams to the left in the odd numbered rows and to the right in even numbered rows. Sew the rows together to form a 201/2 square block. Repeat with remaining A Block units to complete all six A Blocks. Assemble the B Blocks Step 9: Arrange the B Block units together in four rows of four, following the fabric placement and orientation in the Block Assembly Diagram. Sew the units together to form rows, pressing seams to the left in the odd numbered rows and to the right in even numbered rows. Sew the rows together to form a 201/2 square block. Repeat with remaining A Block units to complete all six B Blocks. page 6
Assemble the Quilt Step 10: Arrange the A and B Blocks together as indicated in the Quilt Assembly Diagram. Sew each row together, using sashing strips between each block and at the beginning and end of each row. Press seams toward the sashing. Repeat to make four block rows. Step 11: Sew the row sashing and block rows together. Press seams open or to the sashing. Your quilt top is now complete! Baste, quilt, bind and enjoy! page 7
