As long as the beams are obstructed, the output sends signals to the connected door controller. When the light beams are free again, the output switches back. For details, please refer to Chapter 2.5. 1.2. Features Vertical light curtain to safeguard the danger area of the hinge edge Small emitter mountable at the top of the door frame Small and flat receiver mounted on the floor in front of the hinge edge Catergory 2 sensor, Performance Level C Detects fingers interrupting the light beams (i.e. finger resolution) Fast reaction time Optically robust against dust, dirt and scratches Mechanically robust against pressure and scratches Sleek design The area between the hinge and the automatic swing door itself has long posed a risk of serious injury. The MicroRay is the first sensor on the market to safeguard this area using finger resolution, even though the European Union has long required such door protection (DIN 18650). Thanks to its design, the MicroRay can also be used to protect the extremely hazardous closing edges of revolving doors. 1.1. Functionality The MicroRay consists of two parts, an emitter and a receiver. The emitter is mounted above the detection area with the receiver mounted below it. So installed, the MicroRay provides ultra reliable safeguarding of the hinge edge area in swing doors and the hazardous areas in revolving doors. Typical application example: Protection of the hinge edge of a swing door CEDES/August 2010 www.cedes.com 3
MicroRay Installation and Operation Manual 2. Installation 2.1. Dimensions The following drawing shows the most important dimensions of the MicroRay s emitter and receiver. (All dimensions in mm) Emitter Receiver 2.2. Installation It is recommended to carry out the system installation according to the following steps: 1. Ensure delivery package is complete: - 1x receiver - 1x emitter - 1x emitter housing - 2x shipping kit - 1x installation and operation manual 2. Switch off main power of the door and the door control unit for your own safety and mark clearly that this object is out of service. 4 www.cedes.com CEDES/August 2010
Installation and Operation Manual MicroRay Drill the holes for the emitter housing into the door frame, ensuring the emitter is mounted vertically above the receiver. This hole is only needed if the cable can be laid into the door or wall. If the cable has to be guided on the surface there are parts of the ELS housing where the housing is thinner and can be broken away. Screw the receiver to the ground using the screws provided. Ensure that the optical window is in front of the hazardous area. The receiver should be mounted on a flat surface. Do not over-tighten the mounting screws. Do not drill additional holes into the MicroRay. Positioning and mounting of emitter and receiver edge 3. Mount the emitter by using the screws provided. Make sure the emitter is in line with the receiver. 4. Connect the emitter and the receiver with the door controller by using the connection cable. MicroRay Installation and Operation Manual 2.4. Start-up 1. Switch on mains and power up the door control unit. 2. After start-up, the red LED on the receiver edge must be illuminated when the protection area is free. 3. It is recommended to perform a test procedure with the door control unit: Switch off the emitter and check the receiver s response. 2.5. Output signals The following diagram shows the output signal behavior based on a light beam interruption or test input signal. Light beams PNP output NPN output Free Interrupted ON OFF OFF ON Time Value Response time t 1 < 50 ms Rise time t 2 < 100 ms Min. off time t 3 > 80 ms t 1 t 2 t 3 2.6. Testing of the MicroRay The MicroRay receiver is able to self-check its internal functions but not the output. To ensure safe operation, a test cycle has to be generated as follows: 1. Switch off the ELS 300. 2. Verify that after maximal 50 ms the MicroRay s output switches to interrupted. 3. Switch the ELS 300 on again. 4. Check if the MicroRay sends a free signal. 4. Disposal The MicroRay should only be replaced if a similar protection device is installed. Disposal should be done using the most up-to-date recycling technology according to local regulations and laws. There are no harmful materials used in the design and manufacture of the sensor. Traces of such dangerous materials may be found in the electronic components but not in quantities that are harmful. This test cycle can be generated on a regular basis by the door controller or else. Please note that the sensor only corresponds to a category 2 sensor when the other components do likewise. 3. Maintenance Although the MicroRay does not need regular maintenance, a periodical functional check is strongly recommended as follows: - Check the mounting position of the emitter and receiver. - Clean the optical window with a soft towel and a little soap water from dust or dirt. Important notices: Never use any solvents, cleaners or mechanically abrasive towels or high-pressure water to clean the sensor. The optical window may be damaged! 6 www.cedes.com CEDES/August 2010
