Burczyk is located in the Madison office and is a member of the firm s Business Practice Group where his principal focus is in the areas of general corporate counsel, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, securities/private placements, early-stage company angel and venture capital financing and mature company commercial financing, consumer finance and joint ventures and strategic alliances. Mr. Burczyk represents a wide range of interests including: manufacturing, technology, insurance, health care, banking, telecommunications, engineering and architecture, accounting, and sports and arts organizations. Jill A. Fahrlander, Ph.D. is located in the Madison office and is a member of the Intellectual Property Practice Group. Her practice focuses on intellectual property law, with an emphasis in biotechnology, including proteins, genetically engineered bacteria and yeast, transgenic plants and animals, bioremediation, genetic identity testing, bioinformatics, nanotechnology, purification of biomolecules, high throughput assays and screening, diagnostics, methods of disease treatment, and industrial fermentations. Dr. Fahrlander s practice includes patent prosecution and procurement worldwide, intellectual property counseling and portfolio management, and licensing and technology transfer. She holds a doctorate in biochemistry from North Dakota State University and has extensive clinical laboratory experience. Amy Schmidt Jones is located in the Milwaukee office. Her practice includes all aspects of labor and employment law. Ms. Jones received her B.A. degree in government and psychology, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She received her J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from New York University School of Law, where she served as Managing Editor of the New York University Law Review. Before joining Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Ms. Jones served as Law Clerk for the Honorable Carol Bagley Amon, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of New York (1997-98). Daniel S. Jones is located in the Milwaukee office practicing exclusively in intellectual property law with an emphasis in mechanical technologies, design patents, trademark, and licensing. Amy D. Katarincic is located in the Milwaukee office. Her practice includes representation of management in employment disputes and labor relations matters, with an emphasis on counseling and defending employers in employment discrimination, union elections and FMLA matters. Laura Shroyer Liss is located in the Chicago office. Her practice includes all aspects of labor and employment law, including litigation in state, federal, and appellate courts and before administrative agencies. She frequently counsels clients on employment issues related to the evaluation and discipline of employees, employee handbooks, non-competition agreements, the ADA, the FMLA, the ADEA, and Title VII. Richard H. Marschall is located in the Milwaukee office where he focuses his practice on intellectual property matters with an emphasis on litigation and client counseling. Prior to joining Michael Best, he served as a law clerk to Circuit Judge Paul R. Michel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Marschall is registered to practice law before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted to practice law in Wisconsin. He is a member of numerous law and bar associations, and is a board member of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the Wisconsin Bar Association. Mr. Marschall received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1994 from Northwestern University and a J.D. in 1997 from Georgetown University Law Center. Kristina E. Somers is located in the Milwaukee office practicing extensively in tax law with an emphasis on state and local tax and contested issues. She is a member of the American, Wisconsin and Milwaukee Bar Associations, Wisconsin Association of Assessing Officers and the Institute of Professionals in Taxation. Ms. Somers received a B.A. in 1992 from Yale University and a J.D. in 1995 from Boston College Law School. She is admitted to practice law in Wisconsin. John C. Thomure, Jr. is a trial lawyer located in the Milwaukee office. He focuses his practice on bankruptcy litigation, commercial loan workouts and white-collar crime. Mr. Thomure has represented the firm s clients in large bankruptcy cases such as Enron, Fleming, Kmart, Outboard
Page 4 clients in large bankruptcy cases such as Enron, Fleming, Kmart, Outboard Marine, and Tutor Time Learning Systems. John is also a seasoned criminal defense lawyer. He has represented individuals and corporate clients in highprofile criminal law matters. A highlight of Mr. Thomure s appellate work consists of convincing the Wisconsin Supreme Court to establish general procedures for post-conviction discovery, which served as the precursor for the Wisconsin State Legislature to enact a statute expressly providing for a client s right to post-conviction discovery including DNA testing. Mary C. Turke is located in the Madison office where she focuses her practice on bankruptcy, commercial litigation matters and commercial transactions (including financings, work-outs and liquidations). Ms. Turke regularly handles replevins, foreclosures, construction liens and bankruptcy proceedings (including preference actions and relief from stay motions). Ms. Turke's commercial litigation experience includes trial and appellate work.
