Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month from September to June Please bring the following to the November Meeting: Completed Outreach Projects Name Tag Loonie For Draw Show & Share Items DEADLINE FOR DECEMBER NEWSLETTER IS DECEMBER 12th newmillenniuqmquiltersguild@gmail.com President's Message: On Monday we had a NMQG executive meeting at the church with lively discussions on all kinds of Guild business. One of the members mentioned how pleased she was that not only is the Guild growing (74 paid memberships so far!) but we also have some novice quilters among the new ladies joining us. How cool is that! I well remember my first few Guild meetings and how overwhelmed I felt. One night as we were leaving the meeting I commented to a new friend I had sat with, how intimidated I had felt watching all the beautiful quilts being shown during Show and Share time. She stopped, looked me in the eye and said My dear, you must be inspired...not intimidated! How wise she was and how I needed to hear her words. We are all at various stages of our quilting journey, learning from each other as we go. Some of us have been quilting and sewing for years and some are just starting. Please look around at the meetings and be welcoming and encouraging to our new members (as well as our experienced members, of course). We are hoping to start running some basic quilting skills courses in the new year for interested members. Joni Newman, quilt designer of Quirks and Quilts will be our guest presenter at our Nov 21 meeting and will be teaching a class on Wed. Nov. 22. Joni is an enthusiastic quilter and I know we are in for a most interesting evening. Hope to see you there. Program committee ladies will have demo stations set up to give directions for making this huge totebag which will come in handy to carry large mats and rulers that are needed when going on retreats or courses. New Millennium Quilters Guild Newsletter November 2017 Page 2

April 18, 2018 Kathy Wylie will be teaching her Apliquick method for turned-edge appliqué. Free use of her tools which may be purchased after the course. Full Day Wednesday Course: $40 at the Chepstow Hall 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Remember your lunch. COMMUNITY OUTREACH REPORT Requests for comfort quilts are to be made to Pat Golem at 519-506-2434 or at golemp@live.ca. This past month 4 fire quilts have been handed out. The essence of living is in giving and our guild is pleased to be able to contribute to our community members in need. Guild members can help by purchasing our in house raffle tickets to enable us to provide flannel for comfort quilt backings. Check out the three packages of bow tie block kits, tickets are $2 each or 4 for $5 and will be drawn at our Christmas meeting. Beginning at 1:30 PM on Tuesday afternoon prior to the meeting we will be making fabric snowflakes to be sold for the guild in the boutique at our quilt show. Come out to help but some equipment is needed as follows: Iron (dry) and small ironing board, small cutting board, (a cut and press board is perfect), protective Teflon sheet or plain newsprint to protect your ironing board, sharp rotary cutter, 6 inch square ruler, glue gun and 1 or 2 glue sticks, a marking pencil or sliver of soap. You can share but will be doing the same thing at the same time so best to have your own to avoid waiting. A pack of fabric and ultra hold heat n bond for each snowflake will be supplied, cut from Christmas fabrics donated to outreach. We may need an extension cord and a power bar. You can watch this website for making snowflakes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfpfafrth4m There will be cancer hat kits, 2 sinful comfort quilt kits to be machine or hand quilted and sinful tops needing borders available to take home at the meeting. Outreach is counting on work being taken home so afternoon work sessions can be dedicated to making boutique items. Any other completed items can be handed in as well. Never hesitate to ask outreach for kits or help. The New Millennium Quilters' Guild wish to offer their sincerest sympathy to Catherine Grubb on the passing of her grandson, Gregory Grubb. CHALLENGES Many of you picked up a fabric square at the last meeting to participate in our challenge. We have lots more squares ready so more of you can pick one up at the upcoming meeting, sign the sheet and participate. As you know there are not a lot of rules, just use the fabric in a small project, combined with co-ordinating fabrics you already have. You may remember we asked that you use 4 or 5 of your own fabrics, but there is no limit as to how many you use. In addition to the above challenge, we ask that each of you make a small pin cushion now or in the new year, either partially from your leftover challenge fabric or from your own fabric, as a donation to the boutique to be sold for $1-$2. We will be providing the walnut shells to stuff your pin cushions early in the new year. 70+ pin cushions in a basket will be a colourful and interesting display item.
