Community Goals Discourse community goals Katniss volunteers as tribute in place of her sister. District 12 is Katniss s home, where the main industry is coal mining. District 12 is located in the nation of Pathem. The Hunger Games is where she's a part of a show for the public she's in a game for survival with 11 other districts.

Members Identified Katniss is the main character. Mrs. Everdeen is the Katniss mom Primrose Everdeen is Katniss sister Peeta Mellark is Katniss Everdeen partner in the games since they are both from the same district. President Coriolanus has ruling over the districts. Rue is in district 11 and she becomes friends with Katniss Everdeen in the games. Haymitch Abemathy is a mentor for Katniss since he was the one who won/ survived the last Hunger Games. Effie Trinket is the escort for district 12 Gale Hawthorne is Katniss Everdeens bestfriend in district 12 and hunting partner. He s completely in love with Katniss.
Language Mocking Jay Pin Mocking Jay Whistle Both are used to communicate with Rue. She tries to give Rue the pin, but Rue refuses. Rue trusts Katniss because of the mocking jay on her pin. Rue comes up with the idea to communicate with mocking jays by whistling to signal each other they are okay. The purpose of these is to communicate so that the other districts won t find out that they re alive, and where their location is.
Discourse Community Map Katniss Everdeen is apart of her family, which includes her mother and sister. They re her support system through rough times, and good times. District 12 is where Katniss lives with her people. The other 11 districts are not too far away from district 12, but are not considered as a whole community. Hunger games, is the true survival for your life. Katniss competes with not only the 11 other districts, but with her partner in district 12. When it comes to survival, you re against everyone. Katniss friends are Gale Hawthorne, Cinna, Haymitch, and Rue. All her friends are always there to support her no matter what, and they never once look at her differently. Their advice gets her far in the games.
Communities Differ The communities differ, because the districts are from the same Capitol, but from different locations. The capitol is where they control all the different districts. They have the power to rule their communities. They obligate each district to participate in the games as a form of entertainment for their people. The people of the districts are not free, they re all from the poor districts, trying to survive everyday living. Communities starve from hunger, and usually have to go hunting for their food, or negotiate with the capitol to receive food in place of their name being raffled to be chosen for The Hunger Games.
Character Analysis My character became a member of this discourse community because she volunteered as tribute to save her sister. She is now obligated in this community because there was no other way to save her sister. She is unable to change her mind once she made this decision. Katniss has the will power to succeed in the Hunger Games she's intelligent enough to win the games but she also has help along the way.
Communicating The way she communicates with roo in the hunger games is by whistling like a mocking jay to let each other know they are ok. Technology impacts the communication practices because technology controls the games setting, and takes place within the game such as conflict with surviving amongst the others and it interferes with the goal of winning the games.
