Hand Crafte d Artistic Tiles Overview of the Process H acienda Studios produces the same mosaic tiles that have given great architectural significance to cathedrals, museums, and beautiful residences around the world for centuries. The company s process and techniques are based on four generations of family craftsmen who have mastered the methods of producing beautiful mosaic tiles. Our tiles are composed of two different layers of materials. The surface layer consists of a perfect mix of white Portland cement, marble dust, and special colored pigments added with water to make a slurry. Each color chosen is individually hand cast 1/4 deep into the appropriate cavity of the design mold giving it tremendous surface life. Once the mold is removed, the base layer is added, which consists of moist grey cement and sand. Now the materials are hydraulically compressed under enormous pressure to force the two layers to become one solid tile. The next evening the tiles are submerged under water and slow cured overnight to insure durability and strength. These tiles compliment any space when used as flooring, wainscotting, staircases, counter tops, and backsplashes. As with any handcrafted product, slight variations will occur within each design and color. This variation is an inherent and desirable quality in the product. Simply find a tile sample in this catalog, or from our website www.haciendastudios.com, and refer to the listed code numbers to place your order. If you would like to create your own design simply select any border pattern to accompany any field tile and apply the colors of your choice by referring to the color chart or the assembled tile samples. You may also want to consider any other combination such as a border used only with a solid color tile, etc. You will only be limited by your imagination! Custom Orders We can create or work with new designs and colors of your choice with an up-charge to cover the additional time and work. If you require a color not seen in this catalog, refer to the Pantone Matching System color charts, or submit paint chips from your local paint store. Hacie nda Studios - Español & Hacie nda Tiles These tiles are made by the same process as our mosaic counterparts, with the same high-endurance characteristics. The traditional Español & Hacienda tiles were usually made of clay and look similar to those shown here. However, due to our special process using concrete, we create a superior product without sacrificing the terra cotta appearance, as you can see. Upon request, we can also create these tiles in a variety of special colors. Hacie nda Studios Michael is a noted American craftsman and artist with a wide range of work that spans over 30 years. He has been awarded and embraced for his heirloom furniture making and designs by national Historical & Conservation society s, museums, and private collector s. From the age of 21-43 he created more than 300 original pieces of furniture. These works have been published in magazines and books and documented on television programs. He feels very privileged to have a very rich history of experiences which include studies in art and sculptor at the Instituto Allende and the Bellas Artes Federal Art Academy s in Mexico. He later was awarded an apprenticeship with renowned religious sculptor Maestro Genaro Almanza Rios from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. In the United States he received a scholarship to study advanced woodworking at the Anderson Ranch School of Craft in Colorado where he studied special joinery & chair making with master Sam Maloof, design & construction techniques with Peter Korn, making and using hand planers and french scrapers under Monroe Robinson, and understanding wood finishes with Bob Flexner. Michael S. Moss Michael has always been fascinated with great architecture and all the special hand made elements that give them definition and beauty. From the age of 43-52 he has dedicated most of his attention to exploring and expanding his ideas in these areas. In Texas he has enjoyed building his own Hacienda style ranch home and gardens over the past twenty years which include details in elaborate forged ironwork, ornamental carved stonework, custom lighting, handmade forged hardware, striking mosaic tiles and fine woodworking. Over the years his clients, architects, and designers have been exposed to his ability to work in these different mediums resulting in commissions to design and make such details for special homes and hotels and ranches. With a 30 year background of collaborating with many different studios in Mexico and the United States to accomplish these works he has created Hacienda Studios as a place to bring focus to these projects. At present he has set up working studios for the mosaic tile division and continues his fine woodworking projects. In the future he hopes to expand the studio to include the other mediums mentioned above. The final result and mission for Hacienda Studios is to create a wonderful working environment that promotes and preserves old world craftsmanship from apprentices being Bienvenida! taught by maestros.
