SPEC-0800 1/5 1.0 PURPOSE This specification describes the minimum technical requirements for drawings, as applicable to all disciplines. 2.0 VALE DRAWING TYPE DEFINITIONS Engineering Drawings Engineering drawings are drawings produced by Central Engineering, Engineering Consultants or Engineering Sub-Consultants. They are used to define facilities, locate equipment and facilities, show services between purchased components and provide specifications and design information. An Engineering Drawing provides enough design information to the fabricator for fabrication drawing creation. Fabrication or Shop Drawing A shop drawing is a drawing or set of drawings produced by the contractor, supplier, manufacturer, subcontractor, or fabricator, based on the engineering drawings. Shop drawings are typically used for prefabricated components. Examples of these include: structural steel, trusses, pre-cast concrete, piping spool sheets, piping isometrics (where piping layouts exist), elevators, windows, appliances, cabinets, air handling units, etc. Other examples include installation and coordination shop drawings such as sheet metal ductwork, piping, plumbing, fire protection and electrical. These drawings are used to explain the fabrication of the items to the manufacturer s shop tradespeople and possibly the installation crews. For fabrication and shop drawing requirements see SPEC-08012. Vendor Drawings A vendor drawing is a certified drawing done by a manufacturer that provides information on a specific piece of purchased equipment. It provides details of the equipment that is used by engineering for the design and layout of a facility that incorporates that equipment. For example, a vendor drawing for a pump would show anchor bolt locations, suction and discharge nozzles, clearance dimensions, electrical connections, etc. Vendor drawings can be for off-the-shelf equipment (certified catalog information) or for custom equipment. They are also used to capture information relating to maintenance (breakdown of replacement components, bearings, seals, etc.). For vendor drawing requirements see SPEC-08012..0 GENERAL This specification outlines the general requirements for drafting practice and supplements CSA Standard B78.2 for Dimensioning and Tolerancing of Technical Drawings, the Architectural Graphic Standards, specific engineering disciplines and for areas which are unique to Vale. All drawings shall be in the English language. Drawing information is generally expressed in Imperial units, with the exception of some process information and some readouts for instrumentation, which are in metric units. Dimensions are in imperial to the nearest 1/16. Machine design drawings are dimensioned to the required tolerancing.
SPEC-0800 2/5 Where metric dimensions are provided by equipment suppliers, convert the dimension to feet and inches, to the nearest 1/16 of an inch. The Engineer shall revise the existing drawings of existing plants and services. Generally this will include the updating of existing flowsheets, P&IDs, general arrangements, structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation drawings that are affected by the work. Where drawings of the facility exist, the Engineer shall refrain from creating duplicate new drawings. It is preferable to add details (without crowding), and/or make revisions to an existing drawing. All efforts must be made to update the existing plant drawings as part of the scope of work. When new drawings are created, the existing drawings shall be cross-referenced to the new drawings. All drawings produced are intended to be Engineering drawings as defined above. Sufficient layout, field investigation and design work must be done to prove the fit and ensure sound design, and include enough information such that detailers can produce fabrication or shop drawings. Use American Third Angle Projection on all drawings. North direction should be consistent with existing plant drawings wherever possible. For new plants, North should be up or to the right when viewed in the plan view. Insert a key plan into the lower right corner of the drawing, in the same orientation as the main plan view. Key plans are available within the Vale standard cell library. Dimension drawings thoroughly. Where possible, draw dimensions outside of the object. Locate equipment from column centerlines to the centerlines of equipment. Avoid repeating information from view to view. Arrange all dimensions in completed strings. Dimensions that are one foot and larger are shown in feet and inches, with the exception of pipe diameters. Label equipment in close proximity to the equipment. Sections are labeled with letters, and details are labeled with numbers. Do not repeat Section/View letters and Detail numbers within the same drawing or sets of drawings. Locate sections and details on the plan view wherever possible. If the section or detail view is on another drawing, make reference to that drawing. From the section or detail view, refer back to the source drawing. Drawings must be clear and have enough information to define the work. The scope of work document, points to the drawings. Once the installation is complete in the field, the drawings serve as a representation of the field installation. When creating new drawings, show existing components/equipment in a phantom line type. (Microstation line type 6 line weight 0). All tie-ins to existing components must be clearly indicated and tie-in method defined. (example 1: Connect W8 to Exist W12 Bolted Connection) (example 2: Tie into Existing 6 -PA line at existing Flange)
SPEC-0800 /5 All drawings must be checked, approved and reviewed, in accordance Vale Specification SPEC- 08011. 4.0 REVISION CLOUDING Drawing revisions need to clearly indicate what has been revised. The revision clouding must be clear and accurate. Revision triangles must be positioned next to the revised information and encircled within the revision cloud. Clouds from previous revisions are removed. As a minimum, triangles from the previous (three) revisions remain on the drawing. During the construction period, the clouding can also define the extent of the scope. If a revision occurs during the construction period, clouds defining the extent of scope for multiple revisions may remain on the drawing if necessary. No revision clouds are required for as-built changes. Revision Cloud Line Types: Clouds are placed on the level Dimensions-Revision Clouds with a line weight of 4. Civil and Mechanical drawings use a solid line type. Electrical and Instrumentation use a dashed line type. Note: Electrical Code violations are clouded with a solid line type. A temporary Hold on a drawing, may be indicated with a reversed cloud.

SPEC-0800 5/5 6.0 REVISION AND TRANSITION NOTES Revision notes describe: what was changed, and if applicable, why it was changed, and the plan to implement the change, including whether changes are retroactive. Note: The revision notes are a summary of the changes and may not necessarily be a complete list. A risk code is entered for each revision and if applicable, the revision notes will describe how risk was addressed for the revision. Risk Code A Risk Category This revision is a minor change and/or introduces no risk. B C Risk has been addressed for this revision by the reviewer and approver. Low risk or no new hazards identified. For this revision, a PHR or other risk management tool has been used to address risk and minimize hazards. This risk assessment has been documented and is available through Central Engineering. Rev 1 2 Revision Notes Document format and number changed due to Vale Engineering Document Program changes in 2011. Previous standard number was 080-00.05.011 Rev 5.
