Sanding and polishing your timber floors Sanding is the most important part of the flooring experience and the end result is what you are greeted with each day. It s a saying of mine that a good floor does not come cheap and a bad floor does not come good this is so true we do a lot of floor sanding that has been finished by other companies/people that do not have the experience as Dave Brighton Floor Sanding. At Dave Brighton Floor Sanding we start with a series of sands over the entire floor including the edges close to the walls, all the nails and any imperfections such as small holes and end joints will be filled with a timber filler designed for the floors species that you have. The floor will then have another sand with a finer belt to finish off the process. The floors and walls will be vacuumed, skirting boards and bench tops will be dusted off and re vacuumed again. However, we limit the amount of dust in your home therefore we treat your home as if was our own. Coating your floors The process continues into the stage of coating your floors, we apply three coats of floor coating and in between each coat the floor is sanded and thoroughly vacuumed. We coatings we apply are: Toby s Lusterpol Polyurethane (2 pak) Toby s Satin Polyurethane Toby s Semi Gloss Polyurethane Fets Watson Alkathane Oil Base Coating Enviro Pro Acrylic Coatings (gloss or satin)
CAREING FOR YOUR NEW TIMBER FLOORS We do not recommended you wash your new timber floors or place floor coverings on top of your newly polished timber floors until they are 100% dry and cured, this normally can take up to 28 days for maximum cure. A daily sweep with an electro static mop or a soft broom over all the traffic areas is advisable. We recommend you vacuum about once a month with a soft brush head or a felt tip brush head, this will reduce any chance of scratching your new timber floor. Wash your timber floors with a recommender floor wash NOT a silicone based floor wash It is recommended that you place floor mats after 28 days in high traffic areas e.g. external doorways and in work through areas such as kitchen sink. Any roller wheel chairs should always have a non-abrasive mat or protective mat/sheet over the floor before placing the chair on the floor. Be mindful of areas which have dining room tables and chairs in high work or walk through areas such as doorways and we recommend you place felt tip protection underneath your furniture legs to avoid damaging your new timber floors.
