FOUND: GUY DU TOIT & PAT MAUTLOA Saturday 14 March - Saturday 11 April Fried Contemporary is excited to host an exhibition of painting, drawing and sculpture works by artists Guy du Toit and Pat Mautloa. Both artists are wellknown for the use of found materials in their work. ABOUT THE ARTISTS Guy du Toit was born in 1958 in Rustenburg. He studied at the University of Pretoria, graduating cum laude in Sculpture in 1982. Among the many achievements in his artistic career he has exhibited extensively in South Africa as well as overseas. He works with found objects that he casts in bronze, and then re-appropriates it by grouping it with other objects. To this extent his artworks appear to be arbitrary, everyday things that together create new and perhaps even unexpected combinations. He is a part-time lecturer at the University of Pretoria, and works full-time from his studio in Zwavelpoort. Pat Kagiso Mautloa was born in 1952 in Ventersdorp. He studied at Leratong Art Centre, Soweto (1966 1973), at the Jubilee Art Centre and the Mofolo Art Centre in Johannesburg. He holds a Fine Art Diploma from Rorke s Drift, Natal (1979) and became a full-time artist in 1992. He has been involved in numerous local and international artists workshops in the 1980s and early 1990s. He works across media including painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture and is inspired by his daily walks in the city. His artworks generally move between abstraction, figuration and collage. He is a founding member of the Fordsburg Artist s Studios (better known as the Bag Factory) where his studio is still located.

Fried Contemporary was founded in 2005 and is the leading contemporary art gallery in Pretoria. In July 2014 the gallery changed ownership with Mika Thom as its new director. It serves as a platform for both established and emerging professional artists. The gallery focuses on curated exhibitions and feature artists who have a specific historic link with Pretoria. It also showcases artworks by professional artists from elsewhere whose works are rarely seen in the capital city. The Collector s Room, launched in August 2014, is a dedicated art space in the gallery that showcases the works of professional artists to collectors and invited guests. address 1146 justice mahomed st (formerly 430 charles st) brooklyn pretoria 0181 contact 012 346 0158 076 278 0071 info@friedcontemporary.com www.friedcontemporary.com
