Intrductin Sealed Surces are radiactive materials encapsulated r encased in such a way that it is extremely unlikely the radiactive material wuld be absrbed int a wrker s bdy. Sealed Surces, therefre, nly present an external radiatin hazard. At the University, Sealed Surces are typically lw activity check surces, calibratin surces r larger activity Mssbauer spectrscpy surces. When a Sealed Surce is incrprated int equipment in such a way that the device can make use f the prperties f the inizing radiatin, the equipment is called a Radiatin Device. At the University, Radiatin Devices are ften electrn capture detectrs (used fr gas chrmatgraphy), sil misture meters r liquid scintillatin cunters. utlines the (minimum) prcedures required t ensure the safe use f Sealed Surces and Radiatin Devices in rder t minimize the radiatin expsure f all staff, students, the public and the envirnment and cmply with all applicable regulatins. cvers hazard identificatin, recrds keeping, hw t btain Sealed Surces, pening shipments, rules, leak testing and training. 2. Definitins CNSC means the Canadian Nuclear Safety Cmmissin. Cmmittee means the Radiatin Prtectin Cmmittee. Decmmissining is the prcess f releasing equipment r a rm frm the cnditins n the Internal Permit. Decmmissining requires dcumentatin t recrd that all radiactive material has been remved and n radiactive cntaminatin is present in excess f legal limits r that the permitted X-ray Device is remved r lcked ut f service. See Sectin 5.3 f RSP-2 and the current frms fr decmmissining Permits r equipment will be n the Envirnmental Health and Safety website. Designated Wrker means an individual listed n the Permit as wrking under the authrity f the Permit Hlder. EHS refers t Envirnmental Health and Safety. Acrnym frmerly used was EHSO. Exemptin Quantity (EQ) Istpe specific quantity defined by regulatins. Exemptin Quantities are listed in the secnd clumn f Appendix D at the end f this manual.

Labratry Radiatin Supervisr (LRS) is a Designated Wrker nminated by a Permit Hlder t assist the Permit Hlder t carry ut the duties as specified in this manual. The LRS is respnsible t ensure the Radiatin Safety Manual is up t date and available t all Designated Wrkers. The LRS shall keep recrds that Designated Wrkers have been infrmed f changes t the Radiatin Safety Manual. Permit means the Internal Permit issued by the Cmmittee t cntrl all prcurement, use, strage, transfer and dispsal f all radiactive materials, radiatin devices, X-ray equipment and ther surces f inizing radiatin in all areas under the cntrl f the University. Permit Hlder/Respnsible User means the individual issued the Permit by the Cmmittee wh is required t be a faculty member r reprt t a Dean, Directr r Department Head r wh is supervised by a Dean, Directr r Department Head. Radiatin Device, fr the purpse f this manual shall refer t a device that cntains mre than the exemptin quantity f a nuclear substance and that enables the nuclear substance t be used fr its radiatin prperties. Radiatin Safety Recrds Binders are prvided by Envirnmental Health and Safety (EHS) fr the strage f all recrds that are required by the cnditins f the Permit. The Radiatin Safety Recrds binder and the recrds inside are the prperty f EHS and shall be returned when the rm is decmmissined. Radiatin Safety Officer means the University emplyee Envirnmental Health and Safety designated as the Radiatin Safety Officer pursuant frm the Radiatin Safety Plicy. Radiatin Safety Prgram means the prgram develped pursuant frm the Radiatin Safety Plicy. Radiatin Warning Symbls (trefil) shall be used as utlined in this prcedure t identify all areas where radiactive materials are used r stred. Radiactive material, fr the purpses f this manual, the term radiactive material shall be limited t materials used fr their radiactive prperties in the curse f research r teaching. Further, radiactive material means an unstable istpe f an element that decays, r disintegrates spntaneusly, emitting radiatin f sufficient energy t create charged particles by adding r remving an electrn r breaking chemical bnds. RSP means Radiatin Standard Prcedures that are apprved by the University Radiatin Prtectin Cmmittee and dcumented in the University f Manitba Radiatin Safety Manual. Sealed Surce Permits are Internal Radiistpe Permits specifically authrizing the use f Sealed Surce radiactive materials and the cnditins f that use. Sealed Surce Permits are thse beginning with the designatins F-1- (fr Frt Garry Campus) r B-1 (fr Bannatyne Campus)., Page 2 f 12

Sealed Surce Radiactive Material is radiactive material that is encapsulated r encased in such a way that the radiactive material is extremely unlikely t be absrbed int the bdy and therefre present nly an external radiatin hazard. An example wuld be small calibratin surces and Mssbauer spectrscpy surces. Sealed Surces Requiring Leak Testing are all Sealed Surces ver 50 megabecquerel (50 MBq) and all Radiatin Devices cntaining Sealed Surces greater than 50 MBq. Gaseus surces r surces f tritium are exempt frm leak testing. The University is the University f Manitba. 3. Plicy Related t the Use f Sealed Surces and Radiatin Devices Sealed Surces and Radiatin Devices will be used in a manner t minimize the radiatin expsure f all staff, students, the public and the envirnment and cmply with all applicable regulatins. 4. Psting and Labelling At the University, a cnsistent apprach is required t identify Radiatin Devices and areas where Sealed Surces are used r stred. Lab wrkers and ancillary staff rely n Designated Wrkers t identify ptential hazards with psted infrmatin (pstings) and labels as described in this sectin. 4.1 Internal Radiistpe Permit A cpy f the mst recent Internal Radiistpe Permit shall be psted in a prminent place in each lcatin listed n the Permit as apprved fr use and strage f radiactive materials r Radiatin Devices. 4.2 Cntact Infrmatin at Entrance At the entrance f every lcatin listed n a Sealed Surce Internal Radiistpe Permit, there shall be psted: Name f at least ne Permit Hlder as well as infrmatin n hw t reach this persn during the wrkday. The first cntact shall be a Permit Hlder fr the rm, and The secnd cntact shall be currently listed n an Internal Radiistpe Permit fr the rm. Cntact infrmatin fr the University Radiatin Safety Officer and alternate. After Hurs Emergency Cntact Infrmatin fr the University Security Services t initiate emergency prcedures related t the Radiatin Safety Prgram. 4.3 Radiatin Warning Symbl Psted at Entrance Radiatin Warning Symbl and the wrds RAYONNEMENT-DANGER-RADIATION shall be psted at the entrance f a rm when: The rm cntains radiactive material in excess f ne hundred exemptin quantities (EQ), and/r, Page 3 f 12

A persn culd be expsed t a radiatin field in excess f 25 micrsieverts per hur at a distance greater than 0.3 meter frm any bject r shield. In this case: The rm shall be psted as Restricted ENTRANCE and Must be accmpanied by lab persnnel. The entrance is restricted t lab persnnel that are Designated Wrkers listed n the current Internal Radiistpe Permit. There must be a 24 hur unaccmpanied entrance Safe Wrk Prcedure (SWP) apprved by Envirnmental Health and Safety and prvided t Security Services and Physical Plant t allw fr unaccmpanied entrance fr life r building saving scenaris. 4.4 Labelling with Radiatin Warning Symbl Within the lab, the Radiatin Warning Symbl shall be displayed where Sealed Surces greater than 1 exemptin quantity (1 EQ) are stred, r are in use and unattended. The Radiatin Warning Symbl shall be remved frm equipment and areas when the radiactive material is remved. Radiatin warning symbls shall nly be used as described in the Radiatin Safety Manual. Unwarranted radiatin warning symbls shall be remved. 5. Radiatin Safety Recrds Binder T facilitate inspectins, all recrds required by the cnditins f the Internal Radiistpe Permit are kept accessible fr inspectin, either visibly psted in the rm, r in Radiatin Safety Recrds binders prvided by Envirnmental Health and Safety (EHS). One Radiatin Safety Recrds binder will be issued by EHS fr each rm that is permitted t stre r use radiactive materials. Nrmally, ne binder shall be issued per rm regardless f the number f permits n the rm. Recrds required t be in the lab: Leak test and sampling certificates Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm (green sheets r cpies f the green sheet n white paper fr items that have been dispsed)(effective January 1, 2018) Cpies f TDG certificates (receiving class 7 Radiactives) fr lab persnnel All in lab site specific training related t Radiatin Safety, such as: Safe Wrk Prcedures listed as a cnditin n the Internal Radiistpe Permit A cpy f the Lab Assignment (effective September 14, 2016) Cpies f any incidents, malfunctins, security breaches related t Sealed Surces and Radiatin Devices (listed n the Permit). Keep all recrds fr a minimum f 8 years and d nt discard until authrized by EHS (at time f annual inspectin). 6. Ordering/ Obtaining Radiistpes and Inventry (Frms) The University is licensed by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Cmmissin t use specified item limits f Sealed Surces and specific Radiatin Devices. T ensure the University des nt exceed the, Page 4 f 12

licence limits, all rders and transfers t and frm the University must be pre-apprved by Envirnmental Health and Safety. 6.1 Envirnmental Health and Safety Respnsibilities related t Ordering Sealed Surces Envirnmental Health and Safety (EHS) is respnsible t pre-apprve every transfer r rder f radiactive material. EHS will: Prvide radiatin safety pre-apprval f every transfer r rder f radiactive material. The pre-apprval prcess will ensure the University is licensed t receive the rder. An assessment is made t ensure the pssessin, use and strage f this item in the permitted facility will cntrl radiatin dse ensuring ALARA. Effective January 1, 2018, EHS will generate a unique Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm (Inventry Lg Frm) n green paper fr every radiactive Sealed Surce r Radiatin Device based n infrmatin frm the transfer r purchase request. By April 1, 2018, EHS will prepare an Inventry Lg Frm fr Sealed Surces and Radiatin Devices received prir t January 1, 2018. EHS maintains an inventry f all scintillatin cunters, gamma cunters, radiatin survey and cntaminatin meters. 6.2 The Permit Hlder Respnsibilities related t Ordering Sealed Surces The Permit Hlder is respnsible t ensure: Every transfer r purchase f radiactive material has radiatin safety pre-apprval frm EHS. Orders are placed nly fr radiistpes listed as apprved n the current Internal Radiistpe Permit and the apprved item limits are nt exceeded. (If the radiistpe is nt listed n the Permit r the rder is greater than the surce activity n the Permit, the Permit will need t be amended prir t placing the rder.) Effective April 1, 2018, every Sealed Surce r Radiatin Device in the pssessin f the lab has its wn unique Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm as generated by EHS. Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frms are kept in the Radiatin Safety Recrds binder in the rm where the Sealed Surce r Radiatin Device is nrmally lcated. Recrds are up-t date and readily available fr inspectin. When a surce decays belw ne exemptin quantity (EQ), it shuld be remved frm the Permit, and this actin nted n the Inventry Lg Frm. The riginal n green clred paper, is kept in the lab until the Sealed Surce r Radiatin Device is transferred t EHS fr dispsal. All permitted Sealed Surces and Radiatin Devices are stred in a safe and secure manner. Sealed Surces that are nt in use are stred in a lcked cupbard r lck bx t ensure they are nly accessible t Permit Hlders r Designated Wrkers. EHS is immediately infrmed f any Sealed Surce r Radiatin Device that des nt have a unique EHS generated Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm. The required infrmatin is accurately recrded n the Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm. Discrepancies between the riginal rder infrmatin and the item as received are recrded in the space prvided n the Inventry Lg Frm. Significant discrepancies (>10%) shuld be prmptly reprted t EHS. The Serial Number f the Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm is cpied nt the crrespnding Sealed Surce (r equivalently the cntainer, baggie r tag assciated with the Sealed Surce) r labelled nt the Radiatin Device. The Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm may be used t recrd the use f the item r dcument hw / where these recrds are kept. Fr example, if the use lg f a Radiatin, Page 5 f 12

Device (eg Liquid Scintillatin Cunter) is cmputerized r kept in a separate dcument, then this is clearly described n the Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm. Uses wuld include security checks (further described belw), leak tests, installatin f a Sealed Surce int a device, transferring a surce r device t anther permitted r licensed lcatin, returning surces t strage, and ultimately, transferring Sealed Surces r Radiatin Devices t EHS fr dispsal. Fr Sealed Surces and Radiatin devices cntaining mre than 50 megabecquerels (50 MBq), a lg is kept f the date, the name f the persn that uses r handles the Sealed Surce r Radiatin Device and the manner the Sealed Surce r Radiatin Device was used. Effective January 1, 2018, the nly accepted methd f dispsal fr Sealed Surces r Radiatin Devices is t transfer t EHS alng with the crrespnding Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm. A cpy n white paper f the Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm is kept in the Radiatin Safety Recrds Binder (fr 8 years past the discard date). All Sealed Surces and Radiatin Devices listed n a Permit are physically inventried at least nce per calendar year and this security check is recrded n the crrespnding Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm. Physically verifying inventry mre ften (fr Categry 4 and Categry 5 Sealed Surces) as prescribed by CNSC) and any ther security requirements as specified in the Permit cnditins. All transfers f Sealed Surces r Radiatin Devices within the University are recrded n the Inventry Lg Frm including the date and the Permit Number f the receiving Permit. All mvement f Sealed Surces r Radiatin Devices t and frm the University is crdinated in advance with EHS. EHS is infrmed f all scintillatin cunters, gamma cunters, radiatin survey and cntaminatin meters in the Permit Hlder s department whether they are in use r nt. EHS shuld be infrmed f newly acquired equipment as well as equipment that is leaving the department. EHS will assist in making the prper arrangements t discard r transprt. Orders fr Sealed Surces r Radiatin Devices are placed using the University e-prcurement system. The current e-prcurement prcedure is available n the EHS web page. If the e- prcurement prcedure cannt be fllwed (i.e. Radiatin Devices may have purchasing requirements r cntrls that supersede e-prcurement), cntact EHS (radsafe@umanitba.ca) t ensure radiatin safety pre-apprval frm EHS PRIOR t placing the rder! 7. Hw t Receive a Shipment Depending n the amunt f activity, radiactive material may be ptentially dangerus. Transprtatin f Dangerus Gds is cntrlled by Federal regulatins invking stringent federal and prvincial reprting requirements. The fllwing prcedure is required t be fllwed when pening a shipment f a Sealed Surce r a Radiatin Device. 7.1 Receiving Prcedure 1. Immediately reprt any anmalies (damage, missing, shrt r wrng shipment) t the Permit Hlder and/r Labratry Radiatin Supervisr and t the Radiatin Safety Officer (RSO). The RSO cntact infrmatin is n the frnt page f this manual. The RSO must make a preliminary verbal reprt t the Canadian Nuclear Safety Cmmissin and Manitba Department f Envirnment., Page 6 f 12

Lab staff must infrm the cnsignr (vendr) immediately. 2. Befre pening a package cntaining radiactive material, make sure: a. Packages f radiactive material are never left unsecured. b. Shipments f radiactive materials labelled with ne f the Transprt f Dangerus Gds (TDG) symbls (pictured belw) are nly received and pened by persns that have been certified (trained) in receiving Class 7 Radiactive Materials. Figure 1: Transprtatin f Dangerus Gds symbls Nn-certified persnnel may nly receive packages f radiactive materials that are shipped and labelled as Excepted Packages and d nt have a TDG symbl displayed. Figure 2: Excepted Package label RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL, EXCEPTED PACKAGE LIMITED QUANTITY OF MATERIAL UN 2911 c. Cnfirm the package is addressed t yur lab. If nt, STOP & reprt t RSO. d. Upn receipt, unpened packages f radiactive material shuld be prmptly delivered t an apprved lcatin listed n the Internal Radiistpe Permit. e. If apprpriate, use a cart when transprting radiactive packages t increase the distance between peple and the package and minimize radiatin expsure. 3. T pen a Radiactive Shipment: a. Unpack urgently! The package cntains a dangerus gd, it is imprtant t check t make certain there is n damage frm the transprt. b. Place package behind apprpriate shielding if applicable. c. Remve the packing slip frm the exterir f the package and review t ensure the infrmatin crrespnds t what was rdered. If nt, STOP & reprt t RSO., Page 7 f 12

d. Check the exterir and then the interir f the package fr pssible damage r tampering. If the package is damaged r tampering is bvius STOP & reprt t RSO. Islate the package t limit the spread f any cntaminatin. Wash yur hands. Mnitr yur hands and clthing. If yu d nt have access t a cntaminatin meter (nt required fr a Sealed Surce Permit), cntact the RSO immediately. If n visible damage, while aviding r limiting unnecessary direct cntact with an unshielded surce, cntinue unpacking t verify the Sealed Surce is there. Place the Sealed Surce back int the shielding as apprpriate. e. Write the serial number frm the Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm n the surce, tag, baggie r primary cntainer. The serial number is lcated in the upper part f the Inventry Lg Frm. f. Secure Sealed Surces r prtable Radiatin Devices in lcked strage lcatin. g. Recrd the pertinent infrmatin n the Inventry Lg Frm (activity received, assay date, manufacturer s serial and Mdel). Send this infrmatin t radsafe@umanitba.ca alng with yur Permit number s Envirnmental Health and Safety will be able t amend these details nt the Permit and update the University recrds. h. Rules fr Wrking with Sealed Surces r Radiatin Devices T minimize the ptential hazards f wrking with Sealed Surces r Radiatin Devices, befre each experiment, wrkers are required t cnsider the ptential fr hazard with the value frm the experiment. The fllwing basic rules must be fllwed when wrking with Sealed Surces r Radiatin Devices: 1. Prir t beginning wrk, it is imprtant t be familiar with the specific hazards f the radiactive material present. 2. All Sealed Surces and prtable Radiatin Devices shall be attended by a Designated Wrker r must be lcked (secure) when nt attended by a persn listed n the Internal Radiistpe Permit. 3. Sealed Surces r Radiatin Devices are t be stred and used in a way that ensures that radiatin fields in accessible perating areas d nt exceed 25 micrsieverts per hur and in areas adjacent t radiactive wrking areas d nt exceed 2.5 micrsieverts per hur. 4. Preplan prcedures t minimize the time spent in clse prximity t the Sealed Surce t reduce the time f expsure. 5. Utilize prcedures that maximize the distance between peple and the Sealed Surce. 6. Fllw manufacturer s directins fr strage, leak testing prcedures and manipulatin f the Sealed Surce. Additinal shielding may be required. 7. Reprt all incidents t Envirnmental Health and Safety. Leak Testing Sealed Surces and Radiatin Devices cntaining Sealed Surces greater than 50 megabecquerel (50 MBq) must be leak tested t ensure they are still sealed. Leak testing is required at the frequency described belw (see 9.2 belw) and whenever a surce may have been damaged. 9.1 The Permit Hlder Respnsibilities The Permit Hlder is respnsible t ensure: When an agency ther than Envirnmental Health and Safety (EHS) is used t measure leak tests, cpies f each sampling and leak test certificate are kept. A cpy f each is frwarded t EHS. This includes the leak test prvided by the vendr at the time f prcurement. Cpies f every leak test sampling certificate and the leak test certificate are kept in the Radiatin Safety Recrds binder fr at least the last eight years. A written step-by-step prcedure fr wipe sampling each type f Sealed Surce r Radiatin Device and a cpy f this prcedure are kept in the Radiatin Safety Recrds Binder., Page 9 f 12

Leak tests are perfrmed at the frequency required by the cnditins n the Internal Radiistpe Permit. 9.2 Frequency f leak testing: 9.2.1 Prir t Transprt A leak test and pre-apprval frm the Radiatin Safety Officer is required prir t transferring any surce ver 50 megabecquerel (50 MBq) t anther Licensee. 9.2.3 Sealed Surces (nt in Radiatin Devices) Except fr gaseus surces r surces f tritium, leak tests shall be perfrmed fr all Sealed Surces f mre than 50 megabecquerel (50 MBq). The frequency f leak testing shall be: Immediately after any incident that may result in surce damage. Every 24 mnths, fr Sealed Surces that are recrded n the Permit apprved usage declared as STORAGE ONLY. Where the Sealed Surce is used after being stred fr 12 r mre cnsecutive mnths, immediately befre using it. Every six mnths fr all ther surces. 9.2.3 Radiatin Devices Cntaining Sealed Surces Except fr gaseus surces r surces f tritium, leak tests shall be perfrmed fr all devices cntaining Sealed Surces f mre than 50 megabecquerel (50 MBq). The frequency f leak testing shall be: Immediately after any incident that may result in surce damage. Every 12 mnths fr devices cntaining Sealed Surces mre than 10 times the exemptin quantity r Every 24 mnths when the device is declared n the Permit apprved usage as STORAGE ONLY. Every three years fr Radiatin Devices cntaining less than 10 times the exemptin quantity. 9.2 University Leak Test Prcedure 1. When a leak test is required, the Permit Hlder will be sent a leak test sampling kit. 2. Fllw the directin therein and refer t the written step-by-step prcedure fr wipe sampling. 3. Keep a phtcpy f the filled in leak test kit (sampling certificate) in the Radiatin Recrds binder fr the rm in which the Sealed Surce is stred. Recrd the leak test n the Radiactive Surce Inventry Lg Frm. 4. When yu receive the Leak Test Certificate (the measuring certificate), file it in the Radiatin Safety Recrds binder fr the rm in which the Sealed Surce is stred. 5. If a surce r device fails the leak test, EHS will ntify the Permit Hlder regarding the apprpriate actin., Page 10 f 12

6. In the event f any incident that may have caused damage t the surce, IMMEDIATELY CONTACT Envirnmental Health and Safety t request an emergency leak test kit. The pssibly damaged surce/device shall be immediately taken ut f service. 10. Radiatin Safety Training and Cnsent Prvincial and Federal regulatins require that wrkers are infrmed f risks in the wrkplace and trained t identify ptential hazards and hw t wrk safely. Regulatins require that dcumentatin f radiatin safety training must be kept fr three years past the end f emplyment. T ensure wrkers are aware f the risks, have the necessary knwledge t wrk safely and are able t perfrm the needed wrk practices cmpetently in the lab, the fllwing training prgram must be cmpleted. 10.1 Registratin f Persnnel with the Radiatin Safety Prgram All persnnel shall submit a frm t Envirnmental Health and Safety (EHS) t recrd their cnsent t their rle n a Permit t wrk with radiactive materials and t establish their past training and experience (Frm n EHS webpage). EHS radiatin safety training must be cmpleted prir t being listed as a Designated Wrker r Labratry Radiatin Supervisr. EHS will keep dcumentatin (attendance, cntent, tests) f all radiatin safety training prvided by EHS. 10.2 Training fr Permit Hlders Upn the issuance f a Permit t a new Permit Hlder, Radiatin Safety staff will cnduct a New Permit rientatin sessin with the Permit Hlder t cmmunicate the basics f the University Radiatin Safety Prgram as per a checklist. Time limit: 2 weeks frm issuance f the Permit and prir t the first use f radiactive material. Permit Hlders are strngly encuraged t participate in the same training that is required t be a Designated Wrker. New Permit Hlders wh d nt meet the training requirements f a Designated Wrker will nt be permitted wrk with radiactive materials. 10.3 Training fr Designated Wrkers (including Labratry Radiatin Supervisrs) 10.3.1 Self study Prir t being listed n an Internal Radiistpe Permit, all Designated Wrkers/Labratry Radiatin Supervisrs will cmplete a self-study as directed by the Radiatin Safety Officer and cmplete a take hme assignment. Tpics include: Thery f Radiatin Radiatin Expsure Legal Requirements 10.3.2 Lab assignment The lab assignment shuld be cmpleted with a mentr in the prspective radiistpe lab r, fr the prtable gauges, in the field. The mentr is preferably an experienced Designated Wrker frm the same lab. If ne is nt available, the Radiatin Safety Officer may appint an alternate. Tpics include:, Page 11 f 12

Legal requirements and Security Radiatin Detectin, Shielding, Time and Distance Emergency Prcedures 10.3.3 A challenge exam A challenge exam may be administered n an individual basis. If an individual chses t sit the challenge exam, nly ne pprtunity will be granted. If the individual des nt successfully cmplete the exam, he r she shall participate in the specified training. Summer students are nt given the ptin f the challenge exam. The Permit Hlder shall ensure that at least ne Designated Wrker n a Permit has cmpleted the Self Study and Lab Assignment rather than the challenge exam. 10.3.4 Past-Training Exemptin The Radiatin Safety Officer may grant a past training exemptin if satisfied that apprpriate frmal training has ccurred in the last three years. Appeal t the Radiatin Prtectin Cmmittee may be requested. The decisin f the Radiatin Prtectin Cmmittee is final. 10.3.5 Refresher Every three years, the Radiatin Safety Officer shall audit each permit with a prescribed checklist. This prcess will include the Permit Hlder and all available Designated Wrkers as listed n the Permit. The cmpleted checklist will be kept by EHS as a recrd f the review sessin. A Designated Wrker will be remved frm the Permit 36 mnths after the last date f training. 10.3.6 Site Specific Training Recrds When there exists a radiatin risk in the lab that is nt mitigated by the prcedures in this manual, Manitba Wrkplace Health and Safety regulatins require: Safe wrk prcedures that reduce the risk as much as reasnably practicable, Wrkers must be trained in these site-specific prcedures and Permit Hlders must ensure the prcedures are fllwed.
