RECOMMENDED TOOLS DRILL / DRILL BITS FOR METAL AND CONCRETE / PHILLIPS, SLOTTED, AND HEX DRIVERS STEP ONE Lay out the frames for assembly. Grids and frames are pre-assembled and prefitted at the factory. However, the frames may be disassembled for shipping, requiring some re-assembly in the field. Ensure that the frames are in correct order for assembly. Note that the frame sections are marked with a letter indicating their relative locations. IMPORTANT: Install frames and grids in the final stages of building completion. If grid frames are installed prior to the final stages of building completion, protect them with plywood until construction is complete. STEP TWO Select the anchor bolt jam nuts and bent bolts (cast-in-place anchors). Place the required number of jam nuts into the frame raceways of each frame section. Note that the cast-in-place anchors are spaced in accordance with the spacing provided on the shop drawings. Rev. 04/17 Toll Free: 1-800-767-0082
STEP THREE After all the anchor bolt jam nuts are inserted into the frame raceways, assemble the frame, beginning with the corners. Locate the mating corner sections for each corner of the frame (see the details for the section designations). Select a corner frame splice bar and fasteners. Insert the splice bar into the recess in one frame and lightly tighten the fastener. Insert the splice bar into the recess in the other frame and tightly butt the frames together. Firmly tighten both fasteners, ensuring the frames stay tightly abutted. Repeat this procedure for each corner. STEP FOUR Complete the frame assembly by assembling the straight sections of frame. Repeat this procedure for each section of frame. FGLP with Cast-In Frames STEP FIVE Slide the installed jam nuts into their final positions. The cast-in-place anchors are spaced in accordance with the spacing given on the shop drawings. Select the frame anchors. Attach the cast-in-place anchor bolts to the frame by screwing them into the positioned jam nuts. Tighten the bolts to secure the anchors in place. email: info@ Page 02 of 05 Toll Free: 1-800-767-0082
STEP SIX Place the assembled frame into its installed position. FGLP with Cast-In Frames Ensure that the frame is level, properly aligned, and at the correct height. Stake the frame into position, attaching it to the concrete forms. Use wood bracing to securely brace the frame to prevent deformation during the concrete pour. NOTE: To prevent distorted installations, twisting the frame or racking the grid, ensure that at least one person is handling each side of the frame and grid assemblies. STEP SEVEN Pour the concrete or grout. Clean any excess concrete or grout from exposed surfaces of the frame before it sets up or hardens. Once the concrete or grout has cured, remove the wood bracing from the frame. Take care not to cause the frame to bow while removing the wood. STEP EIGHT If needed, pour concrete or grout into the inside of the frame until the concrete or grout is level with the lip of the frame. This will form the required level setting bed for the grid to rest upon. Allow this material to cure before proceeding. If a finished floor is to be installed, do so at this time. Follow the material manufacturer s installation instructions for all finish floor materials. email: info@ Page 03 of 05 Toll Free: 1-800-767-0082
FGLP with Cast-In Frames STEP NINE If the grid or grid sections are shipped rolled, release the bindings and unroll the grid sections to allow them to relax. Do not allow the grid sections to become soiled during this relaxing process. NOTE: Floor grid treads may shift during transport. When this happens, the grid or grid section may become out of square. If the grid or grid section is out of square, roll it back up, and using a rubber or leather mallet, tap uneven treads to even them out. This procedure will return the grid to square. STEP TEN After the grid has relaxed, place the grid into its installed position in the frame. Ensure that the grid is centered in the frame and that it is level, plumb, flush, flat and properly oriented. If the grid is provided in sections, place each grid section into its installed position. Ensure that the grid sections are level, plumb, flush, flat, properly oriented and aligned, and that each grid section is in the position established for it and illustrated in the details. The grid sections are assigned a letter designation, which is marked on the grid sections, to ensure proper placement. NOTE: Rolling and unrolling the grid can cause the hinges to stretch, extending the distance between treads and resulting in a longer traffic dimension. To correct, place the grid into its installed position, then gently kick along the traffic dimension of the grid to compress the hinges, until a proper fit is achieved. STEP ELEVEN Select the lockdowns and lockdown fasteners. Lockdowns are installed at each corner of the grid, and at 24 (610mm) on-center, at both edges parallel to the direction of traffic. Roll up or lift up the end of the grid to which the lockdown is to be attached. Place the lockdown plate into its installed position on the substrate, under the grid. Ensure that the lockdown is properly aligned with the recess of the grid s tread. Secure the lockdown to the floor with the fasteners provided by the factory. Restore the grid to its proper installed position in the frame. email: info@ Page 04 of 05 Toll Free: 1-800-767-0082
FGLP with Cast-In Frames SPLICING GRIDS The instructions in this section are applicable only to grids having multiple sections in the grid width. Lockdowns are installed at 24 (610mm) on-center at splices parallel to the direction of traffic. Roll up or lift up the end of the grid to which the lockdown is to be attached. Place the lockdown plate into its installed position on the substrate, under the grid and centered upon the splice. Ensure that the lockdown is properly aligned with the recess of the grid s treads, and spans both adjacent sections of the grid. Secure the lockdown to the floor with the fasteners provided by the factory. Restore the grid to its proper installed position in the frame. email: info@ Page 05 of 05 Toll Free: 1-800-767-0082
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE A CSW Industrials Company FGLP Floor Grids FGLP-A, FGLP-C, FGLP-D FGLP floor grids are designed to be easy to clean and maintain. The following recommended procedures will help to ensure that the grid remains durable and retains its good appearance. ROUTINE MAINTENANCE OF FLOOR GRIDS For best results, Balco recommends that a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule be established for the floor grids at the time of their installation. This regular maintenance should include periodic inspections of the grids for loose and/or damaged treads. Loose or damaged treads should be replaced immediately. If new parts are required to repair a floor grid, please contact Balco, Inc. for pricing and availability. CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS Tread Rails and Frame (Including Serrated Grids) 1. To clean the aluminum rails and frame, Balco recommends brushing them with warm water and a mild detergent. 2. After cleaning, wet vacuum the rails and frame to remove as much excess moisture as possible. For best results, clean the rails and the frame at the same time that the carpet is shampooed or that the vinyl inserts or abrasive are washed. Always wet vacuum the grid and frame after cleaning to remove as much excess moisture from them as possible. Carpet and Designer Floor Grids 1. Power vacuum and/or sweep the surface of the grid. 2. If the carpet needs to be cleaned, Balco recommends shampooing it with a mild shampoo. Follow the shampooing with a wet vacuuming to remove as much excess moisture from the mat as possible. Abrasive Floor Grids 1. Sweep the surface of the grid. 2. If the vinyl or the abrasive tread inserts need cleaning, Balco recommends brushing them with warm water and a mild detergent. Make sure to remove all water and detergent from the treads after cleaning them. Cleaning Beneath Grids Periodically it will be necessary to remove dirt, etc. from beneath the grid. A regular schedule should be established for cleaning beneath the grid. When cleaning grids with multiple sections, mark each section so that it can be replaced in the same location within the frame.
