ADANCED BUILDING THE QUEST Lil GRUNT 5 Mark fin lines on body tube Cut out the fin marking guide, wrap it around the motor mount end of the body tube and use it to mark the fin locations. Then use a straight edge or door frame to extend the lines 5" from the rear of the tube. Make a pencil mark 1 from the end of Body Tube along Fin Lines. Set tube against door frame, then use the door frame edge to guide pencil to extend fin placement lines. 6 Create double glue joint How to make a "Double Joint" for extra fin strength Apply a small line of wood glue to the root edge of the fin. Attach it to the body tube in correct position. Remove the fin and wipe away any excess glue on the fin and the body tube so there is only a very thin layer of glue left. Wait until the glue is dry, then re-apply a new line of glue to the root edge of the fin and re-attach the fin. Press on Pull off 7 Attach three fins Using Wood, attach the fins one by one using the fin markings to align and place them. Make sure they are straight! YES! Set fins so they are at 120 degree angles to one another. NO! 8 Add glue fillet to fins Run a of Wood along the length of the root edge of the fins to make a fillet. Use your finger to smooth the fillet and remove excess glue. 9 Attach launch lug to body tube Using Wood, attach the launch lug to the body tube 2-3/4" from the fin end, make sure it is straight and not aligned with a fin! 2-3/4" from motor end of body tube Launch lug clear for launch rod. 10 Sanding and finishing ADANCED Apply a coat of Sanding Sealer to each Fin. When the Sealer is dry, lightly sand each Fin. Repeat the sanding and sealing until the surface of each Fin is smooth. Thoroughly dust the rocket so it is clean and ready for painting. 11 Painting the Lil GRUNT Mask off the shoulder of the Nose Cone with Masking Tape and newspaper. Mask off from this ridge. Place a rolled up newspaper in the Motor Mount to act as a handle to hold while painting the rocket. Spray the entire rocket with Olive Drab Enamel Spray Paint. 12 Attach nose cone to shock cord Thread the shock cord through the eyelet on the nose cone, and tie two overhand knots, leaving about 3 of overhang. 13 Attach streamer to shock cord Thread the shock cord overhang through the grommet on the streamer, then tie it securely using two overhand knots. Spray the exposed surfaces of the Nose Cone with Silver Enamel Spray Paint. 14 Decal application The Decals in this kit are peel and stick, no wetting with water is required. To allow more versatility in the placement of the Decals, cut them apart, peel off backing, then dip them in a shallow bowl of water with a drop of dish soap. The Decals can then be repositioned for a short time, then burnished down. Place the Decals in the appropriate positions shown. One star on each Fin. Page 04 Part No. 5014-1010A
