SECTION 01300 SUBMITTALS PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and other Division-1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.02 DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENTS A. Types of Submittals: Submittal requirements specified in this Section include shop drawings, product data, samples, and miscellaneous workrelated submittals. Administrative submittals, project close-out, and record document submittals are specified elsewhere in Division 1. Specific requirements for work-related submittals (work of this Section) are specified in applicable sections for each unit of work. Submittal requirements are generally limited to "Product Confirmation" described hereafter, unless shop drawings, product data, samples, or other miscellaneous work-related submittal is specifically specified. Where specified, the following definitions define requirements: 1. Shop Drawings: Provide newly-prepared technical data specifically for this project, including drawings, diagrams, performance curves, data sheets, schedules, templates, patterns, reports, calculations, instructions, measurements, and similar information not in standard printed form, for general application to several projects. Do not reproduce Contract Documents as basis of shop drawings. 2. Product Data: Provide standard printed information on materials, products and systems; not specially prepared for this project, other than the designation, if selections from among available choices printed therein. Include manufacturer's standard printed recommendations for application and use, compliance with standards, applications of labels and seals, maintenance information, and special coordination requirements for installation.

3. Samples: Provide units identical with final condition of proposed materials or products for the work. Include "range" of samples (not less than 3 units) where unavoidable variations must be expected, and describe or identify variations between units of each set. Provide full set of optional samples where Architect's selection is required. Prepare samples to match Architects sample where so indicated. Include information with each sample to show generic description, source of product name and manufacturer, limitations, and compliance with standards. Samples are submitted for review and confirmation of color, pattern, texture, and "kind" by Architect. Color selections will not be made by the Architect until all samples requiring color selection have been received. Architect will not "test" samples (except as otherwise indicated ) for compliance with other requirements which are; therefore, the exclusive responsibility of the Contractor. Mock-ups are a special form of samples which are too large or otherwise inconvenient, for handling in specified manner, for transmittal of sample submittals. 4. Miscellaneous submittals related directly to the work (nonadministrative) include warranties, maintenance agreements, workmanship bonds, project photographs, survey data and reports, physical work records, quality testing and certifying reports, copies of industry standards, record drawings, field measurement data, operating and maintenance materials, overrun stock, and similar information, devices and materials applicable to the work, and not processed as shop drawings, product data, or samples. B. Intent: The Contract Documents define materials, products, fabrications and installations required; no departure from requirements of Contract Documents is permitted. The Architect's review of certain submittals is intended to be a preview of Contractor's proposed solution to work, which is specified by performance, rather than prescriptive terms, for which Contractor is allowed a choice of solutions among available options. The Architect will review and take appropriate action on shop drawings, product data, samples, and other submittals required by the Contract Documents. Such review shall be only for general conformance with the design concept and general compliance with the information given in the Contract Documents. It shall not include review of quantities, dimensions, weights or gauges, fabrication processes, construction methods, coordination with the work of other trades, or construction safety precautions, all of which are the sole responsibility of the Contractor. The Architect's review shall be conducted with reasonable promptness, consistent with sound professional practice. Review of a specific item shall not indicate acceptance of an assembly of

which the item is a component. The Architect shall not be required to review and shall not be responsible for any deviations from the Contract Documents not clearly noted by the Contractor, nor shall the Architect be required to review partial submissions of those for which submissions for correlated items have not been received. 1.03 PRODUCT CONFIRMATION AND SUBMITTAL SCHEDULE A. General: Following Notice of Award, and prior to signing Owner/Contractor Agreement, submit to the Architect a complete schedule of all materials, products and fabrications required by Contract Documents, naming the supplier, fabricator/manufacturer of each, and where applicable, identifying the manufacturer's product name and number for each item specified. This listing shall provide the Owner with confirmation of which products and materials, among available options allowed by Contract Requirements, will be utilized in the Work. For each item on which a submittal is required, provide approximate date upon which initial submittal will be presented to Architect for review. Utilize and maintain this schedule to coordinate submittal requirements and record Architect's action markings as defined herein. B. Form: Prepare product confirmation list and submittal schedule in same sequence as Specification Table of Contents; cross reference each item to corresponding Specification section. List generic work element, followed by exact product reference intended, for incorporation into the work and identify fabrication/manufacturer, and submittal dates in successive column format. Provide blank columns for action markings and resubmittal records. C. Product Review: For materials/products where no submittal requirements are identified within individual technical sections of the Project Manual, no additional submittals are required beyond confirmation listing. Comply with detailed requirements of Contract Documents. 1.04 GENERAL SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS A. Coordination and Sequencing: Coordinate preparation and processing of submittals, with performance of the Work, so that Work will not be delayed by submittals. B. Submittals: Provide submittal material of types indicated within individual technical sections of this manual. Do not allow required shop drawing copies to be used in connection with the Work without appropriate final "Action" markings by Architect.

1. Transmittal accompanying submittals shall identify the Project, Contract, subcontractor, fabricator or manufacturer, date submitted, and date of preparation. All submittals shall be numbered in consecutive sequence, and each sheet shall indicate the total number of sheets in each set. Submittal number shall consist of a specification division number, followed by sequential numeral, such as 15050.01, which indicates the first mechanical submittal. Resubmittal would be identified as 15050.01.1. 2. Submittal material shall have Contractor review stamp on each sheet of submitted material, stating they have reviewed submittal and found it to be in conformance with Contract Documents, signed and dated. Submittals received without Contractor's stamp will be returned "No Action Taken." 3. All submittals for all equipment in a given system, such as an air handling system, shall be submitted at one time and each complete, set in a separate binder. 4. When manufacturer's or fabricator's brochures, literature, and data sheets are submitted, the system or product specified shall be identified from other systems or products contained within preprinted information. All options to be included shall be clearly identified. 5. Submittals shall indicate types, gauges, style, finishes, etc., of all materials. Sufficient data shall be included to permit a detailed study of the product or system submitted. All submittals shall include installation instructions and ICBO reports where applicable. 6. Each submittal shall be marked to clearly indicate the use for which product, material, or procedure is being submitted for consideration. Each item submitted shall be marked for identification with the applicable page and paragraph number of the Specifications and/or the detail and sheet number of the Contract Drawings. 7. If submittal is a "substitute," it shall be submitted in conformance with requirements of Section 01600, and explanation given for substitution. 8. Piping, conduit, equipment, etc., submittals shall be accompanied with support/suspension information intended to be used for installation.

9. Ten (10) working days shall be allowed for Architect review, except attempt will be made to expedite submittals marked as "rush," provided all submittals are not marked "rush." Transmittals/submittals marked "rush" and sent by regular mail will not be given preferential attention. Contractor/suppliers letters will not be considered or acted on in lieu of manufacturer's printed information and/or instructions. 1.05 SPECIFIC-CATEGORY SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS A. General: Except as otherwise indicated in individual work sections, comply with requirements specified herein, for each indicated category of submittal. Provide and process repeat submittals if Architect's action marking indicates either "Revise and Resubmit" or "Rejected." Maintain field copies of all submittals for construction and coordination use. Maintain "Record Document" file on site for future transmittal to Owner at Project completion. B. Shop Drawings: Provide one (1) correctable translucent reproducible print and three (3) blue-line or black-line prints for Architect's review; reproducible and two (2) prints will be returned. Reproduce additional copies for field use as required. Comply with "Record Document" requirements of Section 01700. C. Product Data: Provide six (6) copies; four (4) copies will be returned. Comply with "Record Document" requirements of Section 01700. D. Samples: Provide preliminary submittal of a single set of samples for Architect's review and initial selection. Initial submittal is final submittal unless returned with "Action" which requires resubmittal. Submit two (2) sets of samples in final submittal; one (1) set will be returned. E. Inspection and Test Reports: Classify each as either "shop drawing" or "product data," depending upon whether report is uniquely prepared for project, or a standard publication of workmanship control testing at point of production, and process accordingly. F. Warranties: Refer to "Warranties and Bonds" section for specific general requirements on warranties, product/workmanship bonds, and maintenance agreements. In addition to copies desired for Contractor's use, furnish two (2) executed copies, except furnish two (2) additional (conformed) copies where required for maintenance manuals.

G. Standards: Where copy submittal is indicated, submit two (2) copies for Architect's and Owner's use. Where workmanship at project site and elsewhere is governed by standard, furnish additional copies to fabricators, installers, and others involved in performance of the Work. H. Close-out Submittals: Refer to "Close-out" sections for specific general requirements on submittal of closet information, materials, tools, and similar items. 1. Record Document Copies: Furnish one (1) reproducible set and two blueline sets. 2. Maintenance/Operating Manuals: Furnish two (3) bound copies. 3. Materials and Tools: Refer to individual work sections for required quantities of spare parts, extra and overrun stock, maintenance tools and devices, keys, and similar physical units to be submitted. 4. Shop Drawings and Product Data: Furnish one complete set of approved submittals. I. General Distribution: Provide additional distribution of submittals (not included in foregoing copy submittal requirements) to subcontractors, suppliers, fabricators, installers, governing authorities and others, as necessary for proper performance of the Work. 1.06 ACTION ON SUBMITTALS A. Architect's Action: Architect will review each submittal, mark with "Action," and where possible, return within ten (10) working days of receipt. Where submittal must be held for coordination, Contractor will be so advised without delay. Action markings shall be interpreted as follows: 1. "No Exception Taken": Work may proceed, provided it complies with Contract Documents. 2. "Make Corrections Noted": Work may proceed, provided it complies with notations and corrections on submittal, and with Contract Documents. 3. "Revise and Resubmit" or "Rejected": Do not proceed with work. Revise submittal in accordance with notations thereon, and resubmit without delay, to obtain a different action marking.

a. Do not permit submittals marked "Revise and Resubmit" to be used at the Project site, or elsewhere, where Work is in progress. 4. "Resubmit in Required Form" means that the submittal does not conform to the design concept, or meet requirements of the Contract Documents. B. Other Action: Where a submittal is primarily for information or record purposes, special processing or other activity, the submittal will be returned marked "Action Not Required." C. Architect's review of submittals in accordance with Article 4.2.7, the General Conditions, is not to be construed as authorization for additional work or additional cost. PART 2 - PRODUCTS Not Applicable PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 SUBMITTAL DELIVERY A. All submittals shall be transmitted to Architect in accordance with Contractor's Schedule of Submittals. 3.02 MOCK-UP SAMPLE CONSTRUCTION A Where sample construction is incorporated into the Work, location and extent will be determined at a pre-sample construction meeting attended by the Owner, Architect, Contractor, subcontractor, and all other supplier or parties involved in that particular mock-up sample. 1. All parties responsible for completion and testing of sample mockups shall be notified at least two (2) weeks in advance of presample construction meeting. 2. Initial submittals of Shop Drawings, Product Data and Samples, must be received by Owner prior to beginning of any sample construction. **END OF SECTION**
