We are a health and wellbeing organisation that supports people with long term conditions to manage life better. With a national reach, we deliver local services in the communities in which we work. To keep delivering our vital work, we need your help.

We have a vision Thistle s vision is a world where every person gets to live life to the full, whatever that means to them. We believe that life is for living and that everyone, regardless of their circumstance or condition, has a right to live a great life, where they are in control. We believe everyone should be valued and treated equally and that each person s right to a good life should not only be accepted, but actively supported. We believe in going the extra mile to find the right solution for people, without presuming to have the answers. We believe authentic, powerful, positive relationships are what make the difference. It s not only what we do at Thistle, it s how we do it.

Get it out there! To get the most out of your event and raise as much money as you possibly can, you ll need to promote your event well, so we ve put together a few tips to help you! Logo Any materials that you produce should have this logo on it This is available to download from our website. Please don t change the logo but do ask us if you need it in another format Posters Everyone loves a good poster. Create your own from the templates which are downloadable from the website: www.thistle.org.uk/fundraisingideas Think about the best places to put them, but remember to get permission first! Maximise support Ask everyone you know to spread the word! You could add a little caption at the end of your emails? Add regular posts to your Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram and encourage your friends to share and like to spread the word. Upload a video to YouTube and don t forget to share it. Make it easy for people to donate, so get that online donation page up and running as soon as you can.

Don t forget Gift Aid +25% If your sponsors are UK taxpayers, please make sure they tick the Gift Aid Declaration column on the form to let us know that we can claim back tax from the Government, increasing any sponsorship amount by 25%. This means that a sponsorship pledge of 10 is actually worth 12.50, without any extra cost to you, your sponsor or Thistle! Please ensure all your tax-paying sponsors complete their details correctly (including address and postcode) - they can rest assured that we will only use these contact details to process our Gift Aid claims and they will not be held anywhere on our systems. If you have any questions about Gift Aid, please get in touch with us, or download a Gift Aid declaration form here.

Sending in money Any money you raise through online giving sites such as EverydayHero or Just Giving will automatically be passed to Thistle Foundation, making it the easiest and most cost effective method of fundraising. It is also often the most convenient way for people to sponsor you. If possible, ask people to give you their donation when they sponsor you as this will save you having to chase them after the event. If any of your sponsors or people making donations want to give you a cheque, please ask them to make it payable to Thistle Foundation this saves you the extra step of banking the cheque as you can send the cheques directly to us. Feel free to send us any cheques or other donations you have collected at any point, making sure to let us know that the money is part of your sponsorship or fundraising. We will keep a note of any money you send us and funds you raise on Everyday Hero and this will all go towards your fundraising total. Don t forget, the sooner your money reaches us, the sooner we can put it to work in our services. You can also use text to donate at your event and this will come directly to us. Just tell your supporters to Text THIS22 5 (or any other amount of money) to 70070. Please do not send any cash through the post. For more information about how to send donations, download further guidance by clicking here.

Keep it safe, legal and fun Here s some simple tips to help you plan and run a safe, legal, fun and successful event. Please be careful at your event and remember that it s your responsibility to make sure your event is safe and complies with any relevant authorities. Cash For your own protection, if at all possible, make sure you count the money you ve collected with another person present and have them verify the total amount raised. Ask people who want to make a donation by cheque to make it payable to Thistle rather than you personally and send it to us with their contact details so we can thank them.. Make sure any cash donated is kept in a secure place and is banked as soon as possible. Remember cash is heavy! Think about how you transport it. Simple risk assessment This helps you to find out if there s anything you need to do to stop accidents happening. It s not difficult and can be as simple as making sure you mop up spillages at your tea party so that no-one slips up. Make a list of all the things that can happen and what you can do to try to prevent them. www.thistle.org.uk/keep-it-safe-legal-and-fun Raffles & Lotteries Small raffles can be held as part of a larger event and are a great way to maximise the amount of money you can raise, you ll just need to follow these guidelines: Tickets must only be sold during the event, on the premises where the event is taking place The draw must take place during the event (even if it lasts for more than a day) No more than 500 can be spent on buying prizes No cash prizes can be given All tickets must be sold at the same price and no discounts are allowed on bulk buys (for example, five for the price of four) Tickets should not be bought or sold by young people under 16 First Aid Think about the number of people who may attend your event and ensure you have adequate first aid cover available for the scale of your activity. If you re not sure, check with your local council. Food hygiene Food safety laws apply when food is available, whether it is for sale or not, so ensure you follow food hygiene procedures. Contact your local council for food hygiene regulations at events or see the Food Standards Agency s website. Please remember that some people have serious food allergies, so make sure you know what is in any food you are serving and label if possible. Licences Check with your local authority whether you need any special licence; e.g. a public entertainment licence or a licence to sell alcohol. Collections It s illegal to carry out house to house or public street collections without a licence. Contact us if you would like to help arrange a public collection. If there s anything you re not sure about - please just call or email us.

Now, go and do it! Thank you so much for choosing to support Thistle. You re making a huge difference to the lives of people with disabilities and long term health conditions across Scotland. Everyone at Thistle Foundation hopes your event is a great success and we look forward to hearing all about it!
