The Camp Card Sale Program The Camp Card Sale helps units fund their way to Summer Camp programs by selling discount coupon cards that allow them to earn their way to Camp, Philmont, and other activities or simply support unit program or supply needs. Each Camp Card, sold for $10.00 to the public, will have multiple food, service and entertainment discounts for the customer to use throughout the year that can return over $100 in savings over the year. In addition, each cards sold will give the purchaser and their family access to the Scout-O- Rama event on May 12, 2018 at History Park. The participating unit will keep 30% commission of the sales for each Camp Card sold ($3.00 per card) Commissions from the sales are encouraged to be applied directly toward sending youth to Summer Camp programs, but they may be used as the unit committee sees fit. A unit can return up to 20% of the total number of cards checked out to the unit, making the sale low risk for units to participate. The Value of the Sale In addition to the financial benefits received, scouts can learn valuable skills participating in the program, including salesmanship, goal setting, budgeting, and it builds their self confidence. Camp Avg Cost Card Sales Goal to Fully Fund Adventure Cub Scout Day Camp (avg.) $ 120 40 cards Cub Scout resident camp (avg.) $ 245 82 cards Boy Scout Summer Camp (avg.) $ 420 140 cards Philmont (approximate) $ 1,725 575 cards New Troop trailer $ 5,000 1667 cards The above examples are based on ONE Scout selling and 30% Commissions Earned. Units earn full 30% commission by completing card returns and making full payment by April 30th. 2

The Camp Card The Camp Card offers generous one-time discounts that make the sale of this card a no brainer for customers. Several more partners, right in your own community, have offered discounts that are multiuse all year around. In addition to the printed card discounts, hundreds of offers are available for businesses in your community! Here is an example of this years card: 3

The Camp Card Sale Chair The best way to have a successful sale is to recruit a volunteer in your unit to manage your unit s sale. The best Camp Card Chairs are able to creatively get others excited and motivated about the sale and are organized. Here is a position description to help you find and empower your perfect Camp Card Sale Chair. Position Description Responsible to Unit Committee. Completes or submits online your unit s commitment to participate in the sale. Registers and attends the Scout O Rama and Camp Card Kickoff on February 24, 2018. With your unit committee, sets sales goal for your unit and for each youth member or family. Each scout will receive a sale packet of 20 cards, so we would suggest to start with 1 packet of cards sold per family. Set up your Unit s Sale Calendar to ensure prompt distribution of cards and collection to make an on-time payment to receive the maximum commission. Plans and conducts your unit s Camp Card Kickoff. Train Scouts and parents on the value of the card. Enthusiastically promote the sale to both Scouts and parents. Reconcile unit account by April 30. This includes: Collect all money for sold cards and any unsold cards that are not returned or accounted for. Ensure payment & unsold cards are turned in on-time to the Council. Units will drop to 20% commission, if unit fails to reconcile account by April 30. 4

How To Sell Camp Cards The Scout Motto is Be Prepared. Teaching your Scouts where and how to sell will prepare them to be successful in their sales and achieve their sales goal. To prepare your unit for success, below are three successful sales methods. Create a plan and encourage your Scouts to utilize all three methods to achieve maximum effect. Sale Methods Door to Door: Take your sales kit and Cards for a trip around the neighborhood. Ask your Patrol or Den to schedule a Super Sales Day This is a day when fellow Scouts select a neighborhood and go door -to-door as a group to ask people to buy Camp Cards. Show and Sell: Set up a sales booth and sell Camp Cards on the spot. This can be an effective approach in the right location at the right time, but don t hang your hat on this approach alone. Focus on multiple locations at the same time. Be sure not to over schedule Scouts. Please do not sell cards in front of any business without their permission. Sell at Work: If able, have Mom and Dad take the Sales Kit to work. We re Selling Camp Not Just Discount Cards Ensure your families understand that they are selling character, a better community, and the benefits of Scout summer camp, not just selling discount cards. Emphasize each card sold helps a Scout go to camp. The reason our sale will be successful is that people want to support Scouting. Here is a suggested sales pitch for your scouts to use: Hi, my name is (say first name only). I m a Scout with (Unit and #) here in (city). I am selling Camp Cards to help raise money to go to Scout Camp. By buying a camp card today, you ll be helping me earn my own way to camp this summer AND you will be receiving this card with over $100 in valuable discounts for stores that you shop at all the time! (Hand the customer a camp card) You ll help me, won t you? 5

Camp Card Prize Program To make it fun for your scouts, we have a variety of exciting and fun prizes and incentives for them to earn! You can also develop your units own additional prize program to incentivize your unit to achieve its goal! To enter your eligible scouts, complete the prize form at the end of this guide and submit to the council office. Weekly Prize Drawing Each week a drawing for a drone for any scouts who have sold at least one packet of 20 Camp Cards. Scouts can submit one entry for each packet of 20 they sell. Unselected entries will roll over from week to week, so entering early increases the chance of winning! Scout O Rama Prize Booth For each packet of 20 Camp Cards sold, Scouts will have the opportunity to win a prize at Scout O Rama Prize Booth on May 12, 2018 at History Park. Each entry will be guaranteed to win a prize! The Grand Prize A Flight to Camp! The top salesman will get to go to camp is style, with a private flight to camp! Departing on Sunday from Palo Alto and arriving in Sonora, a scout and one other guest will be able to skip the traffic and fly directly to camp( or as close as possible!) chauffeured by their own private plane and pilot. For scouts attending other camps than Hi Sierra, or wanting a more local experience, an alternative flight around the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge will be available. 6

Hosting Your Camp Card Kickoff Have your own kickoff to train and get scouts excited about the sale! Here are a few key items to remember when planning your unit s kickoff Sell the Adventure Remember we are selling the Scouting program, not the card. Selling camp cards as a fundraiser enables a Unit to have the funds to deliver an incredible summer camp experience. We are selling Scouting and people will buy if asked. Camp Card Kick-off Agenda Before Make sure the Kick-off is properly promoted by e-mail, email groups and phone. During 1. Grand Opening: with music, cheers and excitement. 2. Review Summer Camp opportunities. 3. Review Sales Goal, Scouts to Camp Goal & Explain Key Dates. 4. Prizes: Explain to Scouts the extra prizes they can earn. 5. Scout Training: Role play Sales Script (Offer prizes for best sales presentation) 6. Check out a Sales Kit of 20 cards to every Scout. 7. Big finish: Issue a challenge to your Scouts and send everyone home motived to sell. After Follow up after the kick-off with important reminders like dates & sales goals. Share progress towards your goal each meeting. Hand out prizes to top seller of the week. 7

Safety Tips When conducting your sale, it is vital to ensure proper safety measures. Below are some camp card general safety tips. When selling Camp Cards in your neighborhood, always have an adult or buddy with you. Never enter a stranger s house Don t carry a large amount of cash. Be careful of dogs while selling. Always walk on the sidewalk and driveway. Not through the yard. Watch for traffic. Never sell at night. Always Say Thank You! Whether they buy or not.
