Hertfordshire Young People s Manifesto 2014/2015 Tackling youth unemployment: Young people to have better access to, and increase in, job opportunities during and post study, including apprenticeships and internships. (3050 votes) Watford District 1. How old are you? 2. Are you?

3. Do you have or have you had a job, either paid or unpaid? 4. Do you feel that employers should be more proactive in trying to recruit young people?

5. Do you think that employers should be more willing to consider employing those aged 16 and under? Please state why. 14-15 some teenagers are mature enough and are able to work just as well as a 16-17 year old could. Because there are plenty of 13-15 year olds who are interested in volunteering. As this could cause mishaps It gives a chance to be more independent. So we are able to gain experience. It can give us better experience before we start our permanent jobs. Because they should really take an interest in youth and they might really need a job. Many young people like the freedom of buying their own things with their own money. Some people parents aren t willing to pay for things. People my age group want money and don t mind working to get it. If we were given a chance we could surprise you. Obviously they should not be worked too much however teens need to start saving and parents want their kids to be responsible. We need money as well. Too young. Because you people want to earn money to but their options are very narrow. Teenagers may want a job. Because it is good practise for when they are older. So young people have a chance to earn their own money. It gives people under the age of 16 a chance to see what work is like. They are at a mature enough age if willing to do work.

Because they don t want people to not focus on their studies but it does give them independence. Work experience. As it can be experience for them, they need the money and younger people different age groups have different ideas. For younger children to earn money and save up for the future. So they can earn money for themselves independently without constantly relying on their parent s responsibility. 16 year olds should get a chance as much as others as they need some form of experience before they can get a degree. Children 16 and younger are just as responsible. Young people should not have to work and should not really want to. You might also have problems with people being immature. Don t know. They're older. Jobs are harder to get early on, getting experience whole ypu are young could be valuable. Need more money. To get under 16s the feeling of what work is like. Give young people more job opportunities. Cause it s good to get a taste of work as early as possible. Help people who need money. Young people get experience and get something to put on their cv. Because they are stronger and this can get a better future for themselves They have exams Because if they have an opportunity they will get a taster of what a job is right They have exams So that kids can use their money to buy their own stuff To provide people with the experience to understand future jobs and get them to be more pro-active and understand the importance No experience Kids can do things adults cant and it gets children ready for real work Don t know. Because teenagers should have a chance to learn about working and having a job. Some people want to start saving at a young age. Depends what the job is because some jobs you need experience.

Children should have the opportunity to earn money. Students should have a chance to get paid from a young age so they get used to the work ethics. Maybe aged 16 and above because that will teach them responsibility ao they have experience at work. Young people know more about technology then older people. Because of lots of energy more jobs can be done. We are equally as responsible as adults. Lots of these people have spare time so it s good for them to do some work experience. Anybody is able to work. 6. What skills and qualities do you think a potential employer looks for in an employee?

7. What do you think employers could do to help improve youth unemployment? 8. Where have you got most of your information on how to apply for a job from?

9. Have you heard of the Herts jobs 16-19 website 10. Has there been anything that has prevented you from applying for a job?

If yes, what was the reason? Too young Age. Only 15 and don t like any of the work experience available. Age restrictions and school and homework. Busy during the week doing extra-curricular club every day, would like a summer job. My mum won t let me. I m on 14 and I can t find any jobs that 14 year olds can do. I m too young. Being under aged. Hard to find a job for under 16s. I m too young Age. I am no 16 yet. Not bothered I m only 15 Not being able to get there every week. Only 15 so don t care. Because I have other stuff to do such as music School homework Have not been able to find a job at 13. Parents have asked me to stick with chores Because I m 13 Not bothered I m only 15 Not being able to get there every week. Only 15 so don t care. Age. Attend a lot of clubs so generally don t have enough time. Could find anywhere to do it. My age. People don t seem to invite young people to employment. Medical

11. On a scale of 1-5 how confident do you feel in being able to look and apply for jobs at the moment? 12. Do you think you have been prepared with any of the following skills that may be needed when you apply for a job?

13. Which skills would you like to be prepared with before entering employment? 14. Do you think taking part in a form of work experience would provide you with any of these skills?

15. Do you think work experience should be a compulsory part of education? 16. Finally, do you have any other comments/thoughts on what you feel could be done to help tackle youth unemployment? Make work experience compulsory; include jobs in retail or shops as that s where kids like to work. More jobs should be available, a variety of different jobs they should be able to take responsibility and work. More work experience. Helps youngsters get jobs. Spend more time focusing on life skills like buying a house instead of subject specific topics. Advertise clearly in lots of places where you can apply. You give as much advise as you can and give us experience to have a job and work in one To have kids jobs like cleaning the town Give young people an incentive, give them a reason to apply Advertise clearly in lots of places where you can apply. More awareness on where or how young people could work. Think you could offer more jobs for younger people. Should be more apprenticeships offered out there Raise awareness. Comments Where have you got most of your information on how to apply for a job from? Other. Friends
