A.P. Mays Conservatory of the Arts Visual Arts Supply List These are the supplies that will be needed for work to be done at home as well as in class. ***IMPORTANT!!!*** Parents: Please follow the brand recommendations for oil pastels, color pencils and watercolor paints (marked on the lists). For those supplies, please AVOID the following brands: Simply Art or Simply (Walmart), Artist Loft (Michaels), or generic dollar store brands. The materials don t blend or mix colors very well, the students have a difficult time working with them, and they yield poor looking projects. The same goes for those art supply multi-packs (paints, pastels, markers, pencils, etc. all in the same box). They may seem like a good deal for a cheap price, but the quality of those materials is quite poor. Stores: Jerry s Artarama 1140 Southwest 67th Avenue Miami, FL 33144 (305) 262-0475 Blick Art Supplies (formerly known as Utrecht Art Supplies) 6250 South Dixie Hwy Miami, FL 33143 (305) 740-7077 Walmart ***SEE ONLINE OPTION BELOW*** (Please note that art supplies on the list must be PURCHASED ONLINE FIRST!!!) Amazon and ebay have good deals, but it takes more time to find what you need. When all else fails, these places have some of things you ll need: - Michael s (expensive use as last resort) - Office Depot, Office Max, Target, Staples (These stores won t have everything, but you could use them to fill in some items on the list).
IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS - Sketchbooks should be bound on the side, not the top. Homework assignments will often require images to be done on pages that are side-by-side - AVOID sketchbooks that are bound at the top of the pages. Sketchbooks should open like a normal book (side-by-side) instead of top page to bottom page. - AVOID sketchbooks with paper binding. The pages fall out way too easily. There have been too many lost homework assignments this way. AVOID THESE Art Packs from places like Michael s, BJ s, or Costco. They may seem like a bargain, but they contain extremely poor quality materials for an advanced Magnet Art Class.
