3 2018 QUILT SHOW MEMBER S BOUTIQUE For those who wish to participate in the member boutique, below is how you should mark your precious goods. On the price tag put your initials, item number, and lastly price On a piece of paper put your name, a list of how many items you have in the boutique, a price next to each item For example, if you have 5 table runners, your items would be marked item 1 table runner $, item 2 table runner $, item 3 table runner $, item 4 table runner $, and item 5 table runner $. Please see me at the September meeting if you need price tags or paper for your itemized list. Rose Ojermark

4 2018 Quilt Show Chairmen s Update The Quilt Show Committee met on August 28th during Social Quilting. We are happy to report that all committees are either ready for the show or in the final stages of preparation. Hearing the reports, we are excited by the work that has been accomplished and can barely wait for the show to arrive. That being said, there are still a number of opportunities to help out at setup, during the show, and finally during take-down. If you have not done so already, be sure to secure your volunteer spot at the September guild meeting, or by contacting either Diane Juskelis or Gwen Malinowski. There are still positions available that need to be filled, both standing and seated, so there is surely a spot perfect for you. It is an expectation that all guild members sign up for at least one 2 hour shift. While much time and effort has gone into the planning and preparation for the show, the success will ultimately come down to each of us helping out on September 21-23! Be sure to watch your email over the next week as quilt numbers should be out prior to the September guild meeting. Remember that these numbers need to be included on your quilt label as well as on the pillowcase label! More detailed information on this is available in the registration information you received. As part of the show this year we would also like to honor those members who have passed since our last show in 2016. Currently our list includes Bev Rauman, Janet Pawlisz, and Jean Finnigan. If you are aware of anyone that we have missed, please be sure to contact either Marie, Grace, or Sandy as soon as possible. If you still have any bookmarks or show posters, please hand them out or post them over the next week or so. Let s talk this up, so that we have a great turnout! Information is also available on Facebook, so if you see it be sure to pass it on! Thanks so much for the support each of you has given thus far. We re in the homestretch now! See you at the guild meeting on September 11th! Marie Blunk, Sandy Johnson, Grace Srbeny Books, Patterns, Magazines If you have any books, patterns or magazines that you wish to donate for sale at the quilt show, please bring them on the Friday night of the show. Thanks. Sue Schroeder

5 From MEMBERSHIP CHAIRPERSON Betty Drzal The new directories for 2018-2019 will be available for all members at the September meeting. You can pick them up at that time. A late renewal which has to be added to your directory is: Lori Williard 192 Tall Grass Rd. New Lenox, IL 60451 Cell 708 275-0269 email lorisue002@aol.com birthday 11/15 And, due to the sad and untimely passing of Janet Pawlisz, please delete her from your new directory. APPRAISALS AT THE QUILT SHOW Again, at this year s Quilt Show, Sue Harmon will be our Quilt Appraiser. She will be doing something a little different at this show. She will spend 20 minutes examining each quilt that is brought to her for appraisal, and making many notes on the quilt s appearance and condition. Then when she arrives home after the week-end, she will write up an appraisal on each quilt and send it to your home and it should arrive within two weeks. She says that this gives her more time for examining the quilt and taking many notes and not having to rush to put it together. Sue feels that this way she is able to give more quality time to each quilt. The cost of each appraisal is $55.00. Nancy Mancke is also taking contributions for an appraisal lottery for every person who puts her name in for the lottery at a cost of $5.00, for every 11 people who sign up for this, one person s name will be drawn and that lucky person will win 1 appraisal! Call Nancy Mancke at 815 263-2171 for more information.

6 SOS Quilting usually meets monthly, on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 9AM to 3PM. If SOS needs the room for meetings, we will get cancelled, so check here wo see if the sewing day has been cancelled. Drop in anytime, or bring your machine and spend the whole day, it is up to you. Refreshments are usually there, and if you plan on spending the whole day, bring your own lunch. You can contribute time to making quilts for the kids at SOS, or you can bring your own projects to complete. SOS refers to the SOS Children s Village located at the SW corner of Bruce Road and Briggs Street. This is a live-in facility for children who cannot live with their parents. SOS kindly lets us use a work room with storage space in exchange for quilts for the children. A win-win situation for all. SOS Village Work Days Please note there will be no SOS sewing in September, October or December. 2018 November 17th December we will not meet. SOS informed us they received 13 new arrivals. They range from a girl 1 year of age to a 16 year old girl. Most of the new arrivals are pre teen boys. We have selected the quilts and now working on putting their names and then they will be delivered soon. Again thank you for your support of this activity. We have cut out 100 Christmas stocking and thanks to all that joined us at SOS to help sew the stockings. We had an assembly line going. Some were cutting, pressing and others were sewing. We managed to complete all the stocking we had at SOS. Thanks for everyone that participated. There are a few stocking kits that some took home. Now we continue working on making the pillowcases for the stockings. As the school supplies come out please consider purchasing glue sticks, bic-type pens, colored pencils and color markers to fill their stockings. Joanne
