1. INTRODUCTION The purpose of this document is to provide detailed instructions on performing typical student functions on the M. C. Dean University (MCDU) web site. 1.1 Audience This document is intended for all M. C. Dean employees interested in pursuing further education, increasing their skill sets, and obtaining professional-grade industry certifications via the company s web-based educational resource, MCDU. 1.2 Assumptions: General This document assumes, at a minimum, a basic, novice-level understanding of web navigation and computer usage. When used in conjunction with this Student Guide, navigating the M. C. Dean University web portal will not require extensive Internet or computer knowledge. 1.3 Assumptions: Macromedia Flash As part of M.C. Dean s commitment to cutting edge technologies and initiatives, the MCDU website requires the Macromedia Flash plug-in to correctly view the MCDU features and interface. Most computers are already flash-enabled, provided they have the following programs loaded on their computer: Internet Explorer, version 5.0 to 6.0 Windows 2000 or Windows XP 2005 M. C. 2. ACCESSING M. C. DEAN UNIVERSITY M. C. Dean University has been configured as a web-based application, accessible through your PCs Internet browser: 1. From your computers desktop, click on the icon. 2. Access the M. C. Dean home page (www.mcdean.com). 3. Click on the button on the top of the home page. 4. Click on the button on the left. The M.C. Dean University Welcome page will appear: 5. Click on the button to access the student portion of MCDU: 2005 M. C. Dean, Inc.--All Rights Reserved. 2

MAIN MENU S After successfully logging into MCDU and accessing the student portal, you will see the Main Index Navigation screen, which lists all your available navigation options within MCDU: Note that related functions are grouped together, accordingly: 1. Oval One (1) pertains to viewing your course page, viewing the course catalog, and Registering for a course. 2. Oval two (2) pertains to Career Paths, Certification, and Licenses. 3. Oval three (3) pertains to the M.C. Dean Apprenticeship programs, finding on the job training, and viewing the apprenticeship bulleting board. 4. Oval four (4) contains administrative features such as forms, related public web sites, and the MCDU Newsletter. Additional resources are available at the top menu bar, such as links to contact MCDU administrators, additional forms, information on the MCDU mission and policies, a reporting feature, administrative console, and links to exit MCDU for the Intranet, login screen, or MCDU home page: 2005 M. 4. REGISTER FOR A COURSE Before you can attend any of the classes offered through MCDU, you must first register for that class, ensuring that your education is documented and tracked by both you and your manager. 1. The login screen will open to verify you are an authorized user. Enter your Employee ID and Lotus Notes Password in the appropriate fields. If you do not have a company e-mail address, your last name and last four of your SSN- e.g. Smith1234. Then verify the appropriate Company has been selected from the drop down list (M. C. Dean Inc. is the default option for this menu): 2. When finished, click on the button immediately under the Company field. The M.C. Dean Introduction Page will open: 2005 M. C. 3. Click on the button in the first bubble of options to the left: 4. The Course Search page will load: 5. Click on the hyperlink to load the course browser catalog. 6. The Course Table of Contents page will load. Click on the link, and then the link. The screen that follows will load MCDU s current course listings: 2005 M. C. Dean, Inc.--All Rights Reserved. 5
7. Select the course number from the list of courses, and the Course Description page will load: 8. Click on the button. The Register for a Course page will load: 9. Choose the correct date, give a reason for taking the course, and select M.C. Dean as the one who will pay for the course. The Payment Option will then expand: 2005 M. C. 10. Check the box to charge the correct method of payment (Charge a Department or Charge a Project). Insert the proper billing info, for each respective method of payment: a. Be sure to enter a valid project number and cost code when charging a project. 11. Review the company policy payment agreement statement: 12. Click the button. 5. NAVIGATING MY COURSE PAGE MCDU provides you with a handy, at-a-glance overview of your total educational experience while working at M.C. Dean, via the My Course Page view. This view provides documentation on any pre-selected courses pertaining to your Career Path (as defined by your manager and M.C. Dean), any courses previously selected by yourself, as well as a listing of all courses you have completed to date. To access your course page: 1. From the Main Index Navigation screen, select My Course Page from Oval One (1): 2. Your personalized course page will then open: 2005 M. C. Dean, Inc.--All Rights Reserved. 8

Definition Details any certifications or licenses obtained while employed by M.C. Dean. Indicates courses for which employee is scheduled. Provides a printable view of all Completed Courses.
