Holy Cross College Assessment 2018 YEAR 11 Design and Technology - Preliminary Sustainable Design Assessment Task No: 2 Presentation and Folio Date Issued Term 3, Week 1 Date Due: 19th Sept 18 Term 3 Week 9 Weighting % 40 Total Marks 120 SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS 1. Students are required to submit part 1 HIVE online on 19/09/18. 2. Student are required on work on Part 2 IN-CLASS and submit during class on 19/09/18 CONTEXT (OR PURPOSE) FOR THE TASK In this unit of work students have learnt about skills in relation to sustainability, architectural design and the built. Increasingly there is an expectation that designers will be accountable for the impact of their work on society and the. The concepts of sustainability and sustainable design are now common place and are considered an integral part of the design process. Sustainability is a characteristic of a process or state that can be maintained at a certain level indefinitely. The term, in its al usage, refers to the potential longevity of vital human ecological support systems, such as the planet's climatic system, systems of agriculture, industry, forestry, and fisheries, and human communities in general and the various systems on which they depend in balance with the impacts of our unsustainable or sustainable design. Wikipedia Sustainable design (also referred to as "green design", "eco-design", or "design for ") is the art of designing physical objects and the built to comply with the principles of economic, social, and ecological sustainability. It ranges from the microcosm of designing small objects for everyday use, through to the macrocosm of designing buildings, cities, and the earth's physical surface. It is a growing trend within the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, urban planning, engineering, graphic design, industrial design, interior design and fashion design. Wikipedia TASK RUBRIC In your response to the task and activities you will be assessed on how well you: Produce a professional project that makes use of the tools, materials and techniques learnt about in class. Create and present original ideas. Demonstrate safe work practices Present a Management Folio Page 1

OUTCOMES BEING ASSESSED, GENERAL CAPABILITIES & CROSS CURRICULUM PRIORITIES P1.1 Examines design theory and practice and considers the factors affecting designing and producing in s P2.1 Identifies design and production process in domestic, community, industrial and commercial settings P2.2 Explains the impact of a range of design and technology activities on the individual, society and the through the development of projects P4.1 Uses design processes in the development and production of design solutions to meet identified needs and opportunities P4.2 Uses resources effectively and safely in the development and production of design solutions P4.3 Evaluates the processes and outcomes of designing and producing P5.1 Uses a variety of management techniques and tools to develop s P5.2 Communicates ideas and solutions using a range of techniques P5.3 Uses a variety of research methods to inform the development and modification of design ideas P6.2 Evaluates and uses computer-based technologies in designing and producing THE TASK MARKS You are to design and sustainable structure that utilises at least one shipping container. Possible ideas could be a building, shop, cafe or house. Part 1: The final presentation is to be accompanied by a Design Folio that addresses the following: Design introduction (Brief and Limitations). Action Time Plan (Gantt Chart) Research on the following: Inspirational Design, Sustainable design, Different styles of architecture, Justification of final choices e.g. if you chose to use the process of hydroponics, where and how will it be used. Evaluation Bibliography Correct formatting: size 12 Arial text for all writing, page numbers, contents, etc Page restriction: 60 pages Part 2: You will be required to create an CAD-Based scale model of your project that uses Solid Edge or Google Sketch-up as the driving program. Other programs can be used after consultation with the teacher. It will then be presented on an A2 display poster. 60 60 Elements that are to be included on the poster include (but not limited to): North, South, East and West Elevation drawings CAD 3D Drawing Page 2

Finalised floor plan with dimensions In addition, a Physical scale model will be produced. It should refer ACCURATELY, the plan of the building. Foamex, plastic, timber etc. can be used for the final product.
