Overview The Advanced Investment program is a rigorous two-week course for high-achieving junior or senior university students who are passionate about working in the investment management industry. Entry to the program is highly selective. Taught by experienced investment professionals, topics will include equity and fixed income research, asset allocation, risk management, quantitative research, portfolio management and effective communication. Along with the keynote lectures and discussions, the course will focus on hard skills in areas like programming, risk models and model development. The final capstone project involves a competition as students work in small teams to develop viable investment strategies. Development Learn software/systems required to succeed: model research and development, risk measurement and management, portfolio optimization and simulation, and an introduction to coding and algorithm development. FAQs Who should attend? The Advanced Investment Course is for students who have a strong desire to pursue a career in the investment management industry. Students should have taken introductory courses in finance, investments or similar courses. For non-business/finance majors, students should have some coursework in economics or statistics. Juniors or seniors are preferred. What is the CQA Institute? The CQA Institute is an organization dedicated to educating students with an interest in the investment management industry. It is staffed by members of the CQA, an organization bringing together top investment professionals to exchange ideas and explore the latest ideas in quantitative finance. Why Wilkes University? Wilkes University is located in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and is an ideal location close to major metro areas on the East Coast. Wilkes has excellent facilities and is proud to partner with the CQA Institute to host the program. Does the course give college credit? Upon successful completion of the two-week course, you will receive a certificate of achievement from the CQA Institute. How are students selected? The CQA Institute faculty will select candidates for the program based on academic achievement and interest in a career in investment management. Acceptance to the program will be highly selective and limited to 30 students. Are internships possible for the summer immediately after the program? It is our intent to provide several internships for students who meet requirements for the hiring firms. The internship application process would occur immediately after admission to the program. How much does it cost? The two-week program fee is $2,950, which is allinclusive. The fee does not include transportation to and from the campus. Are scholarships available? Yes, scholarships are available. Check out the CQA Institute website to see a list of available scholarships. Is room and board included? Yes, the course fee will include on-campus room and board and all costs of excursions/activities throughout the two-week period. What prerequisites are there to apply? Students should have some academic experience in any or all of the following areas of study: finance, investments, economics, statistics or business. Any demonstration of a passion for investments would be a plus.
