Day 1: Dry Ice-Capades Manipulate matter in all of its three states! First, get into a state by volunteering for a molecular movement exercise to learn about the three states of matter! Next, melt metal in boiling water - witness a shift of states from solid to liquid right before your eyes! Getting the hang of it? Progress to even more amazing feats, freeze water with just a breath of **dry ice! Then visualise the volumetric difference between matter in solid and matter in gaseous state, using balloons! For the grand finale - you are challenged to catch a cloud with your group mates! Don t forget to leave with the Mad Science Thermocolor Cup and get busy with more experiments with temperature, at home! ** Dry ice the star of the show is used in a series of tests, under the guidance of the instructor, to explore the properties of matter at extreme temperatures
Dry Ice Experiments on changes in state. Change in state: Solid to Gas. This process is known as sublimation Change in state: Solid to Liquid, then Liquid back to Solid. Amazing low melt metal. Adding enough heat to a solid will cause it to change into a liquid. Removing heat reverses the result. More dry ice, more sublimated gas. Shaking the balloon creates friction which gives energy to the Dry Ice and makes it change into gas faster Change in state: Liquid to Solid watch as water freezes into ice in a matter of seconds. Performed as group work What is your prediction what is changing colour? The liquid? Dry Ice? Or the cup?
Mad Science Thermo-colour Cups The Mad Science Thermocolour Cup colourfully displays temperature. Children learn how thermo-sensitive ink changes colour at a threshold temperature. See water, and other clear, colourless liquids literally turn blue with cold!! Brrrrr.. Retails @ $5.00 per piece.
Day 2: Where s The Air This dynamic class explores the concepts of air pressure and buoyancy through hands-on experimentation and thought-provoking demonstrations. Bernoulli never had it so good in this fun look at air pressure and aerodynamics! Encounter the Amazing Imploding Can, expanding foam and growing Marshmallows! How do airplanes fly and helicopters float? Let s take a close, hands-on look at all sorts of neat stuff involving Bernoulli's principle. Children make and take home Mad Science paper helicopters, and amazing stunt planes that fly in a loop to land back in their hands! View video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sujyvpo8wpo&feature=youtu.be
Where s The Air Making a Mini vortex generator Toilet Roll Wave Giant Smoke Rings Heavy Air Dino Dig
Where s The Air Blow Off That Flame! Mysterious Air Fly your Aircraft! The Amazing Imploding Can
The Amazing Diperdo Boomerang Aeroplanes The Diperdo Aeroplane is aerodynamically designed so that it loops back after launch with practise, it can land back in your hand! Launch it vertically or horizontally for it to loop back. Throw it straight forward to see it perform a loop the loop stunt! Retails @ $6.00 per piece.
Day 3: Optical Illusions Get challenged in this topsy-turvy world of optical illusions; see and learn all about the physics behind it! Discover optical illusions when a twisting coil climbs up and down without moving, and a towel turns into a dog! Manipulate flexible mirrors and explore the world with inversed vision. Then create your own illusions using hands-on laminates! Finally, construct a classic mirror illusion, the periscope, as your take-home project! This class uses engaging demonstrations and activities to introduce the concepts of refraction, the science of optics, and the biology associated with sight. Children: Learn how physics can trick our eyes Learn about optical illusions using mirrors Learn about reflection and refraction Experiment with creating their own illusions Build a periscope
Optical Illusions
Mad Science Periscopes Build your very own periscopes! Then use it to look around corners and over walls! Scope out the scene without being seen! The Mad Science Periscope makes peeking practical. Children learn about reflection and the practical application of mirrors Retails @ $8.00 per piece.
Day 4: Mission Nutrition + Kitchen Chemistry Kids embark on a mission to select food to prepare a balanced dinner, during which kids will be tasked to match the food they have bought to the Mad Science nutrition pie. Get to see and touch the difference between muscle and fat in the human body - guaranteed to change the way you view food forever! Kids then get to witness the Bomb Calorimeter - it is a visual demonstration of what exactly we mean by burning food for fuel. It is a challenging game of organ scramble next when kids are placed into teams and tasked to put together scrambled parts of the digestive system. Explaining how each part works is the test - best team wins a prize! Explore Kitchen Chemistry, where kids see, feel, witness and learn all about the difference between a chemical change and a physical change. Kids then become detectives to identify 5 colourless liquids, using a specially concocted food indicator Hands Up! find out what makes vinyl gloves wave through a chemical reaction! Finally kids make and take home their very own lava lamp. Bring Home your very own Mad Science Organ Outfit!
Hands Up! Conduct a chemical reaction, observe the results + real world applications
Is that Water? Conduct a scientific investigation to identify 5 colorless liquids
Human Organs Scramble Reassemble scrambled Human organs, name them and describe their functions
Lava Lamp
Mad Science Organ Outfit The Mad Science Organ Outfit displays an arrangement of our basic body parts. Children learn to identify the circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems with colourful stickers. This is a fun way to find out about your insides! Retails @ $ 9.00 per piece
Day 5: Mad About Blue Students try their hand at Spells and Potions, and the Mad Scientist reveals the science behind them! During this hands on session, children learn all the science behind wizardry including: Wands - watch the Mad Scientist create lightning bolts from our Electric Wand, and light a fire with it! Then Lumos wands mysteriously emit their own glow! An indoor fireworks display is next, where the kids learn how adding different metals to fire changes the colour of the flames. and we increase the drama when every child views this through Mad Science diffraction glasses! Lucky volunteers then get to help the Mad Scientist brew Mystic Potions with Ice from the Mystic Cave of Yaaaaaaar, and other 'mystic' ingredients like hen's bile, Yolk of Dragons Egg, pure water from the river Tigris and Euphrates, rat's tooth powder and more! Meet the screeching spoon and encounter Voldemorts Volcano of Foam. Next, dry ice experiments including Big Burp, Mad Science Foam and Mad Science Shower will have children begging for more. Catch a Cloud and learn all about Dry Ice special effects used in the movies. Then, the Mad Scientist shows how Harry Potter's lightning bolt tattoo glows in the dark, and everyone gets to have an invisible tattoo that can only be seen in 'magic' light. Finally, everyone gets to make and take home slime that glows - using Troll's blood! And take home Mad Science Sunbeads!
Mad About Blue
Mad Science Sun Beads Learning to protect yourself from the sun was never so fun! The Mad Science Sun Beads is a cool UV bead key chain that kids assemble themselves and hook to a knapsack or schoolbag. UV sensitive beads change colours from white to assorted colours when exposed to the sun. Each kit contains 12 UV sensitive beads, lacing, and a plastic key chain. $5.00 per piece.
There s nothing better than seeing the kids faces at the end of the show and hearing them ask if Mr. Mad Science can come back and teach them more science. Wall Street Journal
