November 17th 2017 Warwick Road Bishop Auckland County Durham DL14 6LS Tel: 01388 603359 email: stannes@durhamlearning.net www.st-annes-pri.durham.sch.uk Well done to the Anti-bullying team who led an excellent worship on Monday introducing the theme for the week. A big thank you for 72 shoeboxes in total! Thank you to Martin and St Andrew s Church for their contribution too.
On Friday afternoon Year 5 were lucky to welcome some visitors to their classroom. Matt and Laura are recent graduates of Newcastle University and came to speak to the children about university life. We were given booklets with lots of fun activities to work through all based on the different subjects on offer at the University. It was great fun and we all received a certificate for our hard work and enthusiasm. Their visit has definitely inspired lots of us to go to university in the future! Thank you for supporting Children in Need 2017.
Year 2, knew they had a long journey ahead of them as they boarded the bus to Newcastle but they were very excited. When we arrived at the museum we heard children calling our names we discovered that some of the Year 7 children from Bishop Barrington were also there. After we packed away our coats and lunches we were guided to the Dino Jaws exhibition. The children were fascinated by the moving dinosaur models. Andrew made special friends with one of them. Next we went to the Planetarium and relaxed as we listened to a story about the stars. We were lucky to get an early lunch at 11.30a.m. Everyone was ready for it. After lunch we were taken to the Science Theatre Show and we gasped as the water kept changing colour and the girl set fire to her hand. Definitely a don t try this a home moment. Leighton became the star of the show when he helped the scientist. Next the children were allowed a little free time in the Young Explorers Zone. Then we went to our final destination space which was our workshop. During the workshop the children discovered the roles of different people who help the astronauts. They learnt about the space toilets, moving around in space, eating in space and the importance of drinking lots of water. Some changed their minds about being an astronaut when they discovered that they have to drink their own urine once it has been changed back into water. Miss English tried out a space suit and then the children carried out an experiment to discover which would be the best material for the suit. Soon it was time to return to school. The children had a fabulous day exploring, experimenting and discovering. Their behaviour was outstanding throughout the visit and for that reason this week Year 2, will all be stars of the week.
