APPLICATION NOTE FOR SPECIAL CONTROL RADIO General This special version of the CS4000 series radios allows the radio to control a device attached to AUX Connector. The control is by means of a page from another radio. The following page types are supported: Two Tone Five Tone DTMF MDC When the radio receives a page from the controlling radio, it will activate the output pins on AUX 1 and AUX 2 using either pulsed output or alternate action output. Electrical Specification of the AUX 1 and AUX 2 Outputs Max High Voltage Min High Voltage 5.0 Volts 4.0_ Volts Maximum current at high voltage 10.0 milliamps Max low voltage Min low Voltage 1.0 Volts 0.0 Volts Maximum current at low voltage 10.0 milliamps Pulsed Output Example of pulsed output from AUX 1 or AUX 2 output.
PROGRAMMING Setting the Outputs to be Active High or Active Low The following screen shows the setting up of the outputs to be either active high or active low. Note the AUX 1 output on the right shows the pulse will be set for Active low. Note the AUX 2 output on the right shows the pulse will be set for Active high.
Setting the Outputs to Correspond to the appropriate Page mode. The following screen shows how to set the output to correspond DTMF, Two Tone, Five Tone, or MDC for Aux 1. The pull down menu for AUX 1 function selection have the following options: None PTT In Speaker Silence In External Monitor In Up Key In Down Key In External Hook In Mike Mute In Home Channel In Carrier Detect Out CTCSS/DCS Detect Out Decode State Indication To set AUX 1 to respond to two tone, set the parameter to None To set AUX 1 to respond to MDC, set the parameter to PTT In To set AUX 1 to respond to DTMF, set the parameter to Speaker Silence In To set AUX 1 to respond to five tone, set the parameter to External Monitor In
The following screen shows how to set the output to correspond DTMF, Two Tone, Five Tone, or MDC for Aux 2. The pull down menu for AUX 2 function selection have the following options: None PTT In Speaker Silence In External Monitor In Up Key In Down Key In External Hook In Mike Mute In Home Channel In Carrier Detect Out CTCSS/DCS Detect Out TXDO Decode State Indication To set AUX 2 to respond to two tone, set the parameter to None To set AUX 2 to respond to MDC, set the parameter to PTT In To set AUX 2 to respond to DTMF, set the parameter to Speaker Silence In To set AUX 2 to respond to five tone, set the parameter to External Monitor In
Setting the outputs to be either Pulsed or Alternate Action The following screen shows how to set the output to be either pulsed or Alternate Action. The pull down menu for AUX 3 function selection have the following options: None PTT In Speaker Silence In External Monitor In Up Key In Down Key In External Hook In Mike Mute In Home Channel In Carrier Detect Out CTCSS/DCS Detect Out RXDO Decode State Indication To set the AUX outputs work in the alternate action mode, set the parameter to PTT In To set the AUX outputs work in the pulsed mode, set the parameter to Speaker Silence In
How the Outputs work If set for pulsed, then when the page is detected for that output, that output will be active for one second and then go back to the inactive state. If set for Alternate Action, then if the page for AUX 1 comes in, the outputs on both AUX 1 and AUX 2 will become active. If the Page for AUX 2 comes in then the outputs on both AUX 1 and AUX 2 will become inactive. When power is first turned on, the outputs shall be inactive. The page mode has to be the same for both AUX 1 and AUX 2.
SETTING THE PROPER PAGING MODE When using TWO TONE, DTMF, or MDC1200 set the subtype to 2Tone. If using five tone, set the subtype to 5Tone.
PROGRAMMING THE VARIOUS DECODE MODES Five tone decode template. Use Decode Sequence 1 for AUX 1 and Decode Sequence 2 for AUX 2.
Two tone decode template. Use Decode Sequence Te 1 for AUX 1 and Decode Sequence Te 2 for AUX 2.
DTMF decode template. Use Decode Sequence Se 1 for AUX 1 and Decode Sequence Se 2 for AUX 2.
MDC decode template. Use Decode Sequence SYS1 for AUX 1 and Decode Sequence SYS2 for AUX 2.
