Clayworks is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of ceramic arts advancement of artists and students, and enrichment of the communities it serves. The Nature of Clay This summer Children will create fun colorful pottery looking to things we see in nature as our inspiration. Using three basic hand-building methods: Coiling, pinching and slabs, they will create things such as frog bowls, leaf dishes, animal cups and sculptural tree bark pieces. Each camper will also get to experience making a pot on the potter s wheel. Campers will glaze all of their own work and have it to take home with them on the last day of camp. Age Range: 6 10 years old Time: All camps are from 9:00 am to 12pm each day. ART SUMMER CAMPS By providing the most respected music and art programs in the region, CSA unleashes the creativity of future generations and brings joy, confidence and a sense of accomplishment to its students. CSA actively nurtures Charlotte s future innovators, leaders and arts enthusiasts. Comic Book Drawing This one week summer workshop explores the expansive and exciting world of comic book stories, cartooning and drawing styles. Students will create original characters and story lines and will learn the techniques and materials used to create professional comic art AGES: 10 to 16 WHERE: Spirit Square Art Studio, Uptown Charlotte WHEN: July 18-22, 2016 TIME: 2:30-4:30pm or 5:00 7:00pm Teen Art Studio Week This studio workshop intensive is a great opportunity for artistic teens to dig deep into creativity and expand their horizons. Through a variety of projects that combine drawing, painting, collage, bookmaking, and paper construction, students will learn exciting new techniques, brush up on the fundamentals of color, form, and composition, and develop their own unique style and voice as an emerging studio artist. This is the perfect opportunity for high school students with an eye on art careers and future study to develop strong portfolio ideas and learn how to start a life-long studio art practice. A major component of the week will be exploring the cultural diversity of Uptown Charlotte, with daily walking excursions to area museums, galleries and parks. Our week will culminate in a small group show at Spirit Square with a reception for family and friends. City Sketchbooks for Teens Explore the beauty of Charlotte Latin s campus in this drawing and mixed media class for teens. Sketchbook Studio Week is an opportunity for developing artists to work on their own unique visual style and dialogue with other students, through a series of daily exercises in drawing, watercolor painting, sketching, mixed media collage, and creative writing. Each day, students will walk the campus and view the natural and architectural components of their environment, sketchbook and art materials in hand. We will then continue work back in the studio as we share, critique, and refine pages for inclusion in our collaborative online gallery and studio blog. CPCC STEM Experience Camps Designers & Printers Camp (Rising 8th-11th graders) Learn how to put your creative ideas on the items that you wear at CPCC s Graphics Summer Camp! Learn how the 3rd largest industry in the USA affects our everyday lives while having fun creating and printing your own T-shirt design, decals and more. Projects will include jewelry design and object making. This camp will appeal to girls who like to create, build, or problem solve as well as students who are interested in art, jewelry design, and/or computer science. Date: July 11-14 Hours: 8:30am - 12:00pm Location: CPCC Central Campus 1201 Elizabeth Avenue, Charlotte, NC Make Your First Video Game (Rising 4th-9th graders) If you love playing video games, this is the camp for you! Make your first video game in this one-of-akind camp that shows you the keys to designing your first 2D game. Conceptualization, play experience, challenge levels, graphics, sounds, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that will be explored. No prior experience necessary, just a desire to have fun! Behailu Academy STEAM Summer Camps Camps 9am-4pm Transportation available For rising 7th - 12th graders Up-Cycled Instrument Camp July 11 15 18 22 Use recycled and repurposed materials to create instruments! Find junk in the community and transform your trash into instruments. Apply basic music and sound principles, learn about the design process, and use a variety of tools and materials to build your own upcycled instrument! Web / App Development Camp July 18 22 Explore the principles of coding, learn how to build an engaging website, and develop your own apps. Work with educators form Drive Inc. to learn the fundamentals of web and app design. Take the role of a technology creator, rather than just a consumer! Full and half day options are available. Drawing / 3D Printing Camp July 25 29 August 1 5 Use digital tablets and software to bring your images to life. Work with an artist and a 3D printing expert to learn the fundamentals of drawing, how to use digital tablets and editing software, and basics of 3D printing. You can sketch your ideas on paper, use drawing tablets and software to make them digital, and print a t-shirt or 3D model of your creation. Maker Camp: Sound Project July 25-29 August 1 5 8 12 15 19 It is too loud in Behailu Academy! Bring your creativity & problem solving to help make our center a more peaceful place. Build for one to four weeks as you learn the fundamentals of sound, the design process, and how to use hand and power tools to solve a real world problem. Create a solution that is functional and visually appealing. Art for a Purpose Camp August 8 12 15 19 Want to use your creative gift to inspire others? Come create visual art for a purpose in the workshop style camps. Work with various mediums; painting, drawing, and mixed media to create inspirational pieces of art to be donated to local hospitals, nursing homes, and shelters for the enjoyment of others in our community. Explore different mediums and learn how to convey a message visually using colors, textures, and images. Use your art to make a difference in the lives of others. 9 Page
