REHAU BENCH TRUNKING INSTALLATION GUIDELINES Cabling inside this trunking must only be installed and maintained by a competent person in accordance with BS7671 (UK Wiring Regulations) PROFILA Bench Trunking is a cable management system intended for distribution of low voltage power and communication circuits on worktops. 2. Fixing the Base Base must be fixed to worktop and back wall (if available) 25mm from the ends as shown below. 1. Generalities PROFILA Bench Trunking is a cable management system based on an asymmetric triangular shaped profile for protecting low voltage electrical and data installations. Due to its asymmetric design the system can be installed in two different configurations: Fig 3: Fixing distances Fig 1: High configuration Fig 2: Low configuration Fixing pints between end cuts can be done alternating along the grooved channels as shown below. We recommend using No. 8 round head screws and washers. High configuration - Default configuration for all fabricated accessories, recommended in most applications Low configuration - It requires special internal and external corners PROFILA Bench Trunking can be used in continuous extrusion lengths or as individually assembled POD units. Internal and external corners come in high configuration as standard. Low configuration corners must be ordered specifiying this requirement. Fig 4: Interval distances If worktop and wall are not perpendicular (90 angle), fix base only to worktop.
2.1. Fixing Adjacent Lengths of PROFILA Bench Trunking Adjacent lengths of base must be aligned and joined together by using 3 off metallic dowel pins (Art.265921). Some pins are supplied with the main profile; additional pins are available separately. Insert 3 off dowel pins in one section of trunking as shown: 3 Protective Foil PROFILA Bench Trunking profiles come with a protective tape to prevent damage during transport and installation. This protective layer must not be removed before completion of installation. 4 Dividers Dividers provide circuit segregation. PROFILA Bench Trunking can be further subdivided in two or three compartments by attaching additional PVC dividers onto the built-in DIN 35 rail as follows: Fig 5: Joining adjacent lengths of bench trunking Bring the two profiles together without leaving any gaps: Fig 9: Divider options 5 Main Lid The main lid provides access and protection to circuits inside trunking. PROFILA Bench Trunking uses a common lid with the REHAU perimeter trunking systems COMPACT Data (140 X 50) and PROFILA Data (180x65). To fit, align clip features on lid and base and apply pressure. To remove, peel the cover away from the base. 6 Accessory Boxes Fig 6: Adjacent profile lengths To install lids, leave a 13mm (+/-2) gap ensuring that the joint line on the base is right in the middle of the gap. Finally, place joint cover ensuring it overlaps lids on both sides. The accessory box allows installation of standard BS1363 electrical accessories and data outlets. It comes in single and double gang configuration. Adjustable single socket box: Art. 202415 Adjustable double socket box: Art. 202425 Adjustable socket boxes are common to all REHAU data trunking ranges and the internal depth can be set between 38 and 48mm within the PROFILA Bench Trunking range. Socket boxes clip directly onto the base and should be fitted prior to main lid as the later will overlap built-in lugs on the boxes. Fig 7: Main lid gap Fig 8. Joint cover installed Fig 10: Bench trunking with adjustable accessory boxes
7 Endcaps (Single and Twin) Minimum column size using fabricated corners: Provide side protection to circuits and accessories. Fig 14: Minimum column dimensions Fig 11: Fixing endcaps To fit, align pegs on endcaps with receptacle features on base and push fit until the internal face of the endcap makes contact with the end side of the base. Standard internal and external corners come in high configuration as default; if low configuration is required this must be informed at the time of ordering. 9 Flat Angle and Tee Pieces These accessories are non-standard and the following information must be provided when ordering - Type of configuration: (High or low) - Up or down accessory - Left or right handed accessory 10 Security Rivets Nylon push-rivets (Art. 289585) provide additional security for fixing endcaps and joint covers. Fig 12: Correct fitting of single endcaps If possible, inspect the back of the trunking making sure there are no gaps between the endcap and the base. 8 Internal and External Corners Corners provide change of direction horizontally at 90 angles. Internal and external corners are fabricated using sections of PROFILA Bench Trunking profile cut at 45 angle and welded. The installation of these articles must be done in a similar way to adjacent lengths using dowel pins and joint covers as explained in section 1.2. Fig 15: Security rivets To fix, drill a 3.0mm hole through the accessories and base or main lid to accommodate the rivet shaft. Finally, push plunger until head is flush against the accessory surface. Fig 13: Fabricated corners Fig 16: Security rivets installed For endcaps, drill holes towards the inside of the accessory (not in the middle) ensuring base and/or lids are engaged by rivet shaft. 3
11.3 PODS Stand alone units in 4 different configurations: Fig 17: Joint cover with security rivets For join covers, drill holes offset towards either side of the accessory (not in the middle) ensuring base and/or lids are engaged by rivet shaft 11 Typical Installation Layouts PROFILA Bench Trunking base has internal grooves that can be used as guides for drilling fixing holes. 11.1 Installation on Worktops and Against Wall In order to maximise the useful working area it is recommended to use PROFILA Bench Trunking on high configuration. Standard internal and external corners are set for this configuration and are not suitable if the trunking is installed in low configuration (with the longest side horizontally). Special corners must be ordered to suit the low configuration. - Single POD with 1 gang box - Single POD with 2 gang box - Twin POD with 2 off 1 gang box - Twin POD with 2 off 2 gang Fig 20: POD unit box POD units do not include frontplates. PODS come with one endcap loose to allow wiring and installation of electrical accessories and also to allow drilling of the manin base to pass cables through. After wiring is completed and the POD is secured to the worksop, the endcap must be securely fitted. 11.4 Posts Columns Vertical cable management solutions and in areas with high density of sockets (Power and data). Two default options are available: - 8 sockets (For use on top of working surfaces) - 24 sockets (For use in combination with raised access floor systems) Fig 21: Vertical solutions Fig 18: Recommended orientation over worktops 11.2 Installation on Island Location Specific advice for fixing these units must be requested in advance to REHAU Single or Twin (back to back with twin endcap) Fig 19: Twin configuration 4
