/7 1.0 PURPOSE This specification describes the procedure for working with the Vale Drawing Checker Utility. This utility checks the drawing for adherence to many mandatory Vale drawing standards and must be run for all drawings (except vendor drawings) being submitted to Vale for archiving. 2.0 GENERAL The Microstation configuration must be set up with the correct CAD resource files as outlined in SPEC-07004. Important note: Data that is entered in the drawing border/title block is automatically read into Vale s drawing database upon archiving. Filling of the border must be in accordance with SPEC-07005..0 RUNNING THE DRAWING CHECKER UTILITY To run the drawing checker utility, in the key-in browser, enter: vba run borderdialog and the Drawing Border dialog box will appear. Shortcut Suggestion Rather than entering the VBA run borderdialog command each time, one of the unused function keys can be configured to perform the command. This Drawing Border Dialog box will appear Select Drawing Checker
/7 1. Check Current Drawing will run the checker on the current drawing only 2. Check Full Directory will prompt the user for the folder location, and any drawings in that directory will be checked for system compliance. All Microstation V8, V7 and even AutoCAD drawings in the folder will be checked for compliance. An Excel sheet will automatically open and an error report will display the number of errors on the drawing. If an entire folder is being checked, each drawing will be listed, and the number of errors will be listed. Drawings with errors will be highlighted in column A 1. Drawing format will display in Col B 2. Errors for V7 format drawings will only show as empty fields
/7 In the Excel file, the RevHistory Check tab will provide the error details for all V8 and AutoCAD drawings that contain errors. Errors 1. Drawn by and Checked by cannot be the same person 2. Approved by and Reviewed by cannot be the same person. An error will display if any signatures or TitleBlock Info is missing 4. File Name must match the drawing number 5. An error will display if a duplicate or missing border is detected 6. An error will display if a PDF of the same drawing name is not present in the same folder as the drawing. 7. Date format must be correct 8. Vale Microstation and AutoCAD tag sets exist in this drawing 9. If any RevHistory Tags have been deleted, an error will display Note: Each drawing checked will generate its own detailed error report, consecutively on the RevHistory Check tab (drawings with no errors will be hidden) Duplicate Vale Tag Sets If a Duplicate Vale Tag set error appears, it may be fixed by going to the Drawing Checker Utility toolbox and select the Fix Duplicate Vale Tag Set Error option See next section.
/7 Duplicate Vale Tag Sets You may encounter drawings occasionally where the border appears to be filled in, but when you bring up the Drawing Border Entry dialog box, all of the entry fields are blank. This may indicate that the Vale tag sets were duplicated at some point. Before attempting the steps below, verify that the V8 Border was inserted into a V8 drawing. Open the Drawing Border Dialog Box The Drawing Checker utility built into the Drawing Border Data Entry dialog box may correct the Duplicate Tag set problem. You should run this as the first attempt to fix the problem. Run the macro After running, the Drawing Checker Utility will close. Reopen the Drawing Border Data Entry dialog box. NOTE: Do not run this utility unless a duplicate tagset error was detected IMPORTANT NOTE Do not click Done at this time; the Data Entry Utility will still appear blank. Click Cancel, and then reopen the the Drawing Border Data Entry dialog box again. Check each field to ensure it was fixed. It s possible that the macro fixed some, but not all of the border fields.
/7 If the macro didn t work, it may mean that the tag sets have been duplicated multiple times and you will need to fix the problem manually. Go to Element > Tags > Define You may notice that there are several TitleBlockInformation and RevisionHistory tag sets. The border information is stored in the tag set with the highest _# but the Border Fill Utility only reads the tag sets named exactly TitleBlockInformation and RevisionHistory Highlight TitleBlockInformation and click Remove Delete any other TitleBlockInformation entries with _# at the end except the highest one. Highlight the remaining entry (in this case TitleBlockInformation_2) and click Rename Rename it to TitleBlockInformation If there is a similar problem with the RevisionHistory tag set, repeat the above steps (in this case delete RevisionHistory and rename RevisionHistory_1 to remove the _1)
/7 To check that it worked, reopen the Drawing Border Data Entry dialog box and you should now see all of the info in the fields If it still appears blank. Click Cancel, and then reopen the the Drawing Border Data Entry dialog box again. If the problem still wasn t fixed, it means that something more complicated was done to the tag sets. The best strategy in most cases, if the first two methods didn t work, is to start a new drawing from the seed file and copy in the drawing contents. 4.0 SUBMISSION OF DRAWING CHECKER REPORT When submitting drawings to Vale for archiving, include a copy of the drawing checker report (in Excel format) indicating that all drawings have successfully passed the checker utility. 5.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTATION The following documents are related to this specification and shall be used to their latest revision: SPEC-07004 SPEC-07005 SPEC-08002 Series 08000 Microstation Configuration for Vale Drawings Working with the Vale Standard Drawing Border Drawings Administrative Requirements Vale Design and Drafting Standards
