Les Pointes Bohême Les Pointes Bohême or the Bohemian Spikes Earrings so named after the spike beads from the Czech Republic located in the historical Bohemian region of central Europe. Quirky spike beads when embellished with glittering crystals give you a pair of elegant earrings that sparkle and grace ear lobes. String a single Pointe on a simple chain and voila - an elegant pendant. Les Pointes Bohême a must for any wardrobe. A B C D Supplies 1 g Size 11º Miyuki Delica or Toho Aiko Cylinder Beads 1 g Size 15º Round Seed Bead 1 g Size 15º Round Seed Bead 12 pcs 3 mm Swarovski #5328 or #5301 Bicone Crystal 2 pcs Czech Glass Spikes 7 x 17 mm 1 pair Matching Ear Wires Size D Nymo Beading thread or 6lb Test Fireline Size 12 beading needles Notions Legend 5 mm ø Mandrel Thread starting point Sharp scissors Thread exit point & direction of thread path Thread conditioner such as beeswax, synthetic wax, Thread Heaven Your favourite beading surface Light and magnification if desired Step 1 Step 2 On a 1 m length of thread, string 20A. Leave a 15 cm tail. Pass through the first 4 beads again to form a ring. String 1A, skip the next A from the ring in Step 1 and pass your needle through the following A. Step 3 Step 4 Repeat Step 2 until you have completed the ring. Step up after the last A placed by passing your thread through the first A placed in Step 2. Now repeat Steps 2 & 3 with bead B. As you weave, coax your beads to stand vertical to resemble a tube. It may also help if you put a mandrel in the middle to help keep the beads vertical as well as to support while you work. 2 Page

Step 5 Step 6 Repeat Step 4. Although the new beads in the left diagram has been added on the outer ring for clarity, in reality, your beadwork will now look more like the diagram on the right. It will start to curve in. That s what we want. Now place your spike into the middle of your beadwork with the widest portion of your spike next to bead A. Weave your thread to exit at a bead A at the very top round. Step 7 Step 8 Repeat Step 4. Pull tautly so that the beads now start to wrap around the top of your spike. Repeat Step 7. Step 9 Step 10 The next row is a decrease row. Place 1B as usual. Then pass your thread through bead #2 without adding a bead. Then pass your needle through bead #3. Repeat Step 9 four more times. When done, pass your thread through the B bead placed in Step 9. You notice that you now only have 5 up-beads in the round. 3 Page

Step 11 Step 12 String 2B and pass your thread through the next B bead from Step 10. The 2B beads will be lying above the decrease created from Step 10. Repeat for the next four decreases. When done, pass your thread through the 2B bead pair placed in Step 11. Step 13 Step 14 String 1B and pass your thread through the next 2B bead pair. Treat the bead pair as if they are one bead. Repeat Step 13 four times. When done, step up into the first B bead placed in Step 13. In the Side View above, although the beads are shown immediately above each other, in reality, your beadwork is now curving in and the hole at the top is becoming smaller. Step 15 Step 16 String 1B and pass through the next B bead placed in Step 14. The newly placed B bead is now over the bead pair placed in Steps 11 & 12. Repeat Step 15 four times. When done, pass your thread through the B bead from Step 15 and the newly added B beads drawing tightly so that the top 5 beads form a flower at the top. Pass your thread through all 5 B beads again to reinforce. 4 Page

Step 17 Step 18 With your thread exiting from bead #1, string 1D, 7B. Skip the 7B and pass your needle back through D. Note : If you are making a pendant, string a few more B beads. Now look for beads #2 and #3. Pass your needle under the thread between beads #2 and #3. Step 19 Step 20 Pass your needle through the 1D, 7B combination. Then through the same D and exit through bead #1. When passing your needle through bead #1 make sure that you pass through the bead in the opposite direction you exited in Step 17. This is so that the loop will be centralised. Now look for the beads that have now been outlined in black and numbered #1 to #5. These beads are the ones immediately below the bead pair. Weave your thread to exit at bead #1. The greyed beads are the ones used to attach the loop. The loop itself has been omitted in the above diagram for clarity. Step 21 Step 22 String 1C, 1D, 1C and pass through bead #2. The CDC combination is called the embellishment group. Repeat four times. When done, weave through the first C and D placed in Step 21. Step 23 Step 24 Top View Side View Now look for the beads numbered #6 to #10. We will be using these beads to anchor the second part of our embellishments String 3C and pass your needle through bead #6. 5 Page

Step 25 Step 26 String 3C and pass through the D you started out with in Step 24. Now look at the figure above. Pass your thread through the right C of the embellishment group, the left C and D of the next embellishment group. Do not pass through bead #2. You will be pulling the 2 C beads close to each other. Do not worry if they don t actually touch. Step 27 Step 28 Repeat Step 24. String 1C and pass through the middle C outlined in red from the loop you added in Step 24. String 1C and exit through bead D. Step 29 Step 30 Repeat Steps 26 to 28 twice more. For the last group, repeat Step 26 to bring your thread so that you exit D. String 1C and pass through the C bead from the first loop outlined in red. Then string 1C and pass through bead #10. Step 31 Step 32 String 1C and pass through the middle C bead from the loop of the previous embellishment group now outlined in red. String 1C and pass through D. Pass your needle through the 2 C beads to exit just before the D crystal in the next embellishment group. 6 Page

Step 33 Step 34 String 3C and pass through the next 2 C beads between the D crystals. Repeat Step 33 until you have placed a 3C picot below each of the D crystals. When done, weave your needle to exit at the B bead indicated. Be careful, make sure that your needle is exiting from the B bead that has a D crystal above it. Step 35 Step 36 String 1B and pass through bead #1. Then through beads #2 and #3. Repeat Step 35 four times. Secure and trim your tail and working threads when done. Step 37 Step 38 Open the ring portion of your ear wire and slip it through the loop at the top of your earring. Close the ring when done. Repeat Steps 1 to 37 for a second earring. Congratulations! Les Pointes Bohême are now complete. Enjoy! 7 Page
