Project title Making Business Process Collaboration Trustable Project supervisor (s) and contact details Paul de Vrieze (pdvrieze@bournemouth.ac.uk) & Shuang Cang Marketing Summary Please provide a marketing paragraph (500 words max in total as external websites have word-count limits) The main outcome of the field of Business Process Management (BPM) is one of the key drivers of productivity growth in the modern economy. BPM has led to efficiency of business. In many cases transaction costs, and durations, have been reduced with orders of magnitude, where people now expect instant responses for processes that used to take hours or days. Various Internet technologies and other economic developments have driven increased collaboration of businesses, with tighter integration being essential. Examples of this can be found in outsourcing, virtual enterprises and cloud computing. Within companies, these Internet technologies have become the main mode of systems integration. These developments mean that the fundamental technologies are now ready to allow for crossorganizational business process management. To move the integration from ad-hoc approaches to wellstructured, better manageable collaborative business process management a number of unsolved problems need to be addressed. In particular, addressing one essential problem this project aims to investigate securing automatic business collaboration in such a way that partners are isolated from each other (no failure cascades, security breaches or information leakage) while maintaining the desired properties of the collaboration. Existing work on security in a service-oriented environment has a strong focus on the technical defenses associated with protection such as: related mathematical theories (Myers and Liskov, 2000), cryptographic algorithms (Provos and Honeyman, 2003), distributed systems and network security solutions (Foster et al., 2001), and applying blockchain to enable untrusted business process monitoring and execution (Weber, 2016). Compared to this work at the data, network, and computer systems level, targeting single organizations or simple collaborations, this project focuses on handling complex collaborations from an application level perspective. This perspective, exploring a developing research field, will allow the project to make real impact, both in industry and academia. Security management in business collaboration covers the entire management lifecycle from design time specification and checking

to run-time monitoring, enforcement and negotiation. In order to ensure a holistic approach to security management in business collaboration the research aims to develop, implement, and evaluate a theory and framework for secure collaborative automated business process execution. The project will: Analyze the requirements of secure business process execution in the context shoe factory processes Identify an appropriate case study formulate a formal theory/framework for secure collaborative BPM Develop mechanisms for verifying and enforcing the security compliance Evaluate the theory against the case through a prototype and a formal verification Develop security policies appropriate for the case Closing date for applications Any external funding logos MATCHED FUNDERS ONLY Project details Please provide a closing date. (As a guide adverts should be live for a minimum of 2 weeks and maximum 6-8 weeks). In the event we may need to change this date, the Doctoral College will notify you immediately March 27th, Please attach in high resolution version any external funding logo, hyperlinks, etc to be used for marketing purposes Logo attached: Yes No Additional details: EU Project Logo We will use the project description you return to us. Unit of Assessment (UoA) 11 Eligibility Criteria (Please provide additional qualifications which may be relevant for your project) The PhD Studentships are open to UK, EU and International students. Candidates for a PhD Studentship should demonstrate outstanding qualities and be motivated to complete a PhD in 4 years and must demonstrate: outstanding academic potential as measured by either a 1st class honours degree or a Master s degree with distinction or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 minimum (with a minimum 6.0 in each component) for candidates for whom English is not their first language In addition to satisfying minimum entry criteria, BU will look closely at the qualities, skills and background of each candidate and what they can bring to their chosen research project in order to ensure successful completion. Additional Eligibility Criteria: This project involves secondments at partner organizations in China and Germany. It is expected that candidates will be performing some of these secondments.

We will advertise your Studentship on Jobs.ac.uk and Findaphd.com Below are available keywords for FindaPhD.com. These are the only available options. Please check keywords to accurately describe your Project (up to 10 can be selected). You are not restricted to this list for Job.ac.uk and you can include additional key words: Business process management Collaborative Business processes Trustworthy computing
