RTÉ Radio 1 Broadcasting daily for over 80 years, RTÉ Radio 1 is Ireland s premier agenda-setting radio channel with programmes focussing on news, current affairs, sport, information and debate. Feature strands, including music and the arts, are a staple in the schedule and each year RTÉ Radio 1 runs competitions for radio drama and short stories, as well as hosting the annual thoughtprovoking Michael Littleton Memorial Lecture. The JNLR figures of February 2007 confirmed RTÉ Radio 1 as the leader in Irish radio broadcasting with 8 out of the top 10 most-listened to programmes. RTÉ 2fm RTÉ 2fm caters for a younger audience with dedicated chat shows, music shows, live music, news, competitions and regular broadcasts from the roadcaster which visits cities, towns and major events nationwide. The station also works with transition year students giving them an insight into programmemaking and holds an annual song contest to find the best new talent in the country. RTÉ lyric fm RTÉ lyric fm is a music and arts station catering for all tastes, playing classical, jazz and opera as well music from the stage and screen, world and traditional music. The station also organises education and outreach programmes introducing children around the country to classical music. RTÉ lyric fm has its own record label and has an ongoing policy of commissioning works from composers who are born or based in Ireland. The station regularly broadcasts live from locations around the country. RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta was established in 1972 to provide a national Irish language radio service. It broadcasts current affairs, news, music, sports programming and chat shows. The station has studios and staff all over the country and its headquarters are located in Casla, Connemara. ANOCHT fm, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta s dedicated service for younger listeners, broadcasts seven days a week between 9pm and 1am.
New ways to listen to RTÉ Radio: Listen live: RTÉ offers live streaming which means you can listen live on the internet to all four of its radio stations. Listen back: Programmes are also available to listen back to on RTÉ.ie Podcasting: In 2005, RTÉ launched some of its programmes as podcasts. These are downloadable programmes which you can listen to when and where you want. Each day more and more hours of programming is available for listeners to download. The RTÉ Radio podcasts range in genre from education to news and sport to science. Digital Radio: The future of terrestrial radio lies in digital broadcasting. RTÉ is currently conducting DAB trials and expects further DAB developments in the near future.
