(3) 4 ½ x 42 strips; cut into (64) 1 ½ x 4 ½ strips. (5) 1 ½ x 42 strips for strip sets. (3) 3 x 42 strips; cut (64) Templates pairs (B and C). (1) 2 ½ x 42 strip; cut into (16) 2 ½ squares. (8) 1 ½ x 42 strips for strip sets. Cut (64) 1 ½ squares from 3 strips. (3) 3 ½ x 42 strips; cut into (64) 1 ½ x 2 ½ rectangles. (64) Templates A. D 43464-2 7/8 (1) strips 14 x 42 ; cut into (3) 14 squares, cut twice on diagonal. (1) strip 7 ¼ x 42 ; cut into (2) 7 ¼ squares, cut once on diagonal. Backing Cutting Note: It is very important to mark and store the cut pieces according to the block they have been assigned to, as this will make it much easier when you start piecing. 1
Block Assembly: Star Block: 1. Sew a Fabric B and C 1 ½ x 42 strip together on long sides. Make 5. Press to the dark. Lay strip sets down horizontally and make (128) 1 ½ vertical cuts. 1 1/2 vertical cuts----> 2. Sew (2) vertical cuts together to make a 4 patch unit ---> Square up to 2 ½. Make 64. Set aside. 3. Sew a Template B and C to both long sides of the Template A to make a Star Point unit. Square up to 2 1/2. Make 64. Note: Or use the 2 1/2 line to cut with the TriRecs ruler. 4. Sew a 4 patch unit to both sides of a Star Point Unit as shown to make Row 1. Square up to 6 1/2 x 2 1/2. Make 2. Row 1 ---> 5. Sew the base of the Fabric C triangle side of a Star Point Unit to both sides of a Fabric C 2 ½ square to make Row 2. Square up to 6 ½ x 2 ½. Row 2 ---> 6. Sew Row 1 to the top of Row 2. Rotate and sew the remaining Row 1 to the bottom of Row 2 to complete the block center. Square up to 6 ½. Block Center: 2
7. Sew a Fabric C 1 ½ square to both ends of a Fabric B 1 ½ x 4 ½ strip. Make 2. Sew to both sides of the block center. 8. Sew the short end of a Fabric C 1 ½ x 2 ½ strip to both short ends of a Fabric B 1 ½ x 4 ½ strip. Sew to the top of the block center. 9. Sew a Fabric A 1 x 8 1/2 strip to both sides of the block. Sew a Fabric A 1 x 9 1/2 strip to the top and bottom of the block. Square up to 9 1/2. Make 16. 3
Chain Block: 10. Sew a Fabric F 1 ½ x 42 strip to both long sides of a Fabric G 1 ½ strip to make a strip set. Make 2. Lay strips down horizontally and make (36) vertical 1 ½ cuts. 11.Repeat Step 10, using (2) Fabric G strips sewn to a Fabric H strip. 12. Repeat Step 10, using (2) Fabric H strips sewn to a Fabric G strip. 13. Sew a strip cut from Step 10 to the top of a strip cut from Step 11; sew a strip cut from Step 12 to the bottom to complete a 9 patch unit as shown. Square up to 3 1/2. Make 4. 14. Sew a Fabric E 3 ½ square to both sides of a 9 patch unit to make Row 1. Make 2. Square up to 9 ½ x 3 ½. 15. Sew a 9 patch unit, (Fabric H squares to the inside) to both sides of a Fabric I 3 ½ square to make row 2. Square up to 9 1/2 x 3 1/2. 16. Sew a Row 1 to the top of Row 2. Rotate and sew the remaining Row 1 to the bottom of Row 2 to complete the block. Square up to 9 ½. Make 9. 4
Quilt Assembly: The quilt center is set on point, so it will be sewn together in diagonal rows using side setting and corner setting triangles from Fabric D. Following diagram for placement and rotation of each block, sew each row in the order stated from left to right. Row 1: Side setting 14 triangle (Fabric D) to left side of Star block, and side setting triangle to right side of Star block. Sew a corner setting 7 ¼ triangle (Fabric D) to the upper left corner of the Star block. Row 2: Side setting triangle, Star block, Chain Block, Star block, side setting triangle. Row 3: Side setting triangle, Star block, Chain block, Star block, Chain block, Star block, side setting triangle. Row 4: Corner setting triangle, Star block, Chain block, Star block, Chain block, Star block, Chain block, Star block, corner setting triangle. Row 5: Repeat Row 3 but rotate the Side setting triangles as shown. Row 6: Repeat Row 2, but rotate the Side setting triangles as shown. Row 7: Repeat Row 1, but rotate the Side setting triangles and sew the long side of the corner setting triangle to the lower right corner of the Star block.
