The San Antonio Elks Tale Official Publication - Published Monthly - A Fraternal Organization Volume 45 Issue 4 15650 Market Hill, San Antonio TX 78256 (210) 697-3331 April 2013 Message from the Exalted Ruler A new Elk year is upon us. Yes, I, Richard Morales, was your ER two terms ago. I have attained much knowledge in the last couple of years. I ran again because I care about the existence and direction of our lodge. I hope that I can provide the leadership and get away from this is how we did it before or you can t do that mindset. Our Lodge needs to generate a profit we have not done that for over 15 years. We cannot just take from the piggy bank to cover expenses. Our Lodge needs to invest in getting in touch with the community. The community at large definitely does not know who we are. Setting up at the new HEB store at 1604 & Bandera to promote the Chuck Wagon Event for the kids and Pitchfork Fondue Sponsor party was an eye opener. 99% of the people that I had talked to had no clue who we were or what we did. We have an opportunity to promote the Lodge again, this April 20, 2013, we are still waiting on details, stay tuned. But, I d like to challenge the members to help promote the Lodge of who we are, what we do and what we have done at HEB. If we want to support any programs such as Veterans events, soccer shoot, and hoop shoot, just to name a few. We need to raise funds for the events and not fund it from the Lodge piggybank. We need to construct fundraising events to include the named event and the Lodge. We have bills to pay to. So what is plan for the lodge: 1 New Lodge hours, see website calendar for details 2 We are going to have a raffle called Queens of Hearts on Wednesday night, see the back of the newsletter for game rules. 3 Maximize Grants funds 4 More money making events i.e. Officer Training Weekend (April 6 Weekend), Memorial Weekend Chile Cook-Off, Halloween Party, Marine Corps Birthday, New Year s Party Chile Cook-Off, Super Bowl Party, Pitch Fork Fondue (Chuck Wagon), just to name a few. 5 We now have RV Rental electrical hookups I need your help. We need members and volunteers who are willing to help us make this a fun and success year.
