HOLIDAY HOMEWORK Term 2 GRADE - 5 DUE BACK ON 16TH JULY 2018

HISTORY Australia's national symbols represent what is unique about the nation, reflecting different aspects of our cultural life and history. The Commonwealth Coat of Arms is the formal symbol of the Commonwealth of Australia. It is used to identify the authority and property of the Australian Government, the Australian Parliament and Commonwealth courts. For example, it appears on the cover of Australian passports, government buildings and some 50 cent coins. Visit this website https://www.peo.gov.au/learning/fact-sheets/national-symbols.html to find out more about Symbols of Australia. These are the two main symbols of Australia:

Task: You would need to complete the following steps for creating your symbol or object or emblem. Research: Find 5 or 6 ideas of National emblems or symbols from around the world. Analysis: List the minus and plus points of each one of them. Creative Ideas: Sketch a rough draft of your symbol or emblem for Australia and label the important parts you are going to include. Just like the one shown with the Australian Symbol. Refine your idea and every time you do use a different colour so that you can highlight the changes you make. Resources: List the things you would use to create your object or symbol or emblem. Create it: Make your object or emblem or symbol and also write the procedure you followed to make it. NOTE: You will use your Holiday Homework Books for planning and writing procedure but you Will make your object or symbol or emblem on a separate A4, A3 paper or cardboard base.

Problem Solving Choice Board Complete the task in the green box and then complete any 3 more tasks. Colour the tasks you complete. Vocabulary Book Create a Mathematics vocabulary reference book (15 words) with definitions and examples or illustrations of words you have learnt throughout the term. It should be neat and colourful. e.g. Polygon: two-dimensional closed shape made up of straight lines. (include picture) Angles How many different angle types can you make with your body whilst praying? From the angles listed: acute/obtuse/right/straight Draw a stick figure of yourself (or choose to print the action made during salah) with the angle shown and labelled next to it. Example on page 2 Factors and Multiples What is the difference between factors and multiples? How are they related? Design a How to? poster with the following points: - Definition of a factor and multiple - How to find the factor of a number? - How to find the multiple of a number? Include steps, examples and pictures. Make it look neat and colourful. Shapes Compare and contrast quadrilaterals with triangles. Make sure you include at least 2 comparisons and 2 differences. Also include where these shapes can be found by drawing/including pictures of real-life objects. i.e. rectangle= Door Collect Keep a tally of the amount of times you eat a piece of fruit each day for five consecutive days over the holidays. e.g. Mon- 4 Tuesday- 2 Draw up a column graph to support your results. Are you collecting categorical or numerical data? Graphs should be neat and colourful. Label the X axis, Y axis and Label your Graph. Decimal Fractions Complete the decimals fraction quiz on page 4. Then try to design your own decimal quiz with the following components: - Big Heading - 5 questions - A separate answer sheet Challenge yourself! My Robot Design a 2D robot using the grid paper on page 3. You are to calculate the area of your robot using the appropriate measurements (cm 2 /m 2 ). It should be neat and colourful. BE CREATIVE! X Mental Choose a 2-digit number and multiply it by 2-10 times; multiply it by 3-5 times; and multiply it by 10-3 times. Place each of them in a place-value chart. e.g. chosen number is 6 Look at example for 6 on page 2. Puzzle Create a crossword puzzle (challenging option) or word search using at least 15 words learnt over term 1 in Numeracy. If you choose to complete a crossword puzzle, use the definitions as clues to find your words. Note: Make it look neat, as I may photocopy it for the whole class to complete.

Example for Angles When you bend down to do ruku in prayer, you make a right angle. Example for X Mental Chosen number is 6 1 6 x 2 Hundreds Tens Ones 6 1 2 2 12 x 2 Hundreds Tens Ones 2 4 3 24 x 2 Hundreds Tens Ones 4 8 AND SO ON

CENTIMETER GRID PAPER INCLUDE: Show calculations on grid paper below/beside robot. The perimeter of each box cannot be 0 or 1. Choose a more challenging number. Remember: to measure the area of each box, you have to multiply the number by itself. Example: Area of square 2cm x 2cm= 4cm 2 2cm

Decimal Quiz 1-Write a thousandths number that is smaller than 1.356. 2-Write a hundredths number that is larger than 0.75. 3-Write a tenths number that is larger than 4.57. 4-Write a thousandths number that is larger than 0.09. 5-Write a hundredths number that is smaller than 1. 6-Write five numbers between 0.1 and 0.11. 7- Write five numbers between 1 38 100 and 1.55. 8-Write five numbers with 0 in the tenths place and 7 in the thousandths place.

Literacy Complete the tasks mentioned along with each letter. You would need to cut and paste the card for each letter and complete the tasks for each letter of the Holiday in your Holiday Homework books. You can use illustrations, colours and your creativity to make your work impressive. Make sure you write dictionary meanings but in your own language, do not copy. Have Fun completing the tasks.
