Technical Data Installation Russell Cloak Verge tiles are quick and easily fitted by the roofing contractor. When setting out the roof, the verge overhang should be equal at both verges and should not exceed 50mm maximum. This can be readily achieved utilising half tiles. Where the distance from the inside face of the unit to the wall exceeds 12mm, a soffit closure strip is required to prevent the ingress of birds and vermin. Every cloak verge tile should be nailed with the same nail recommended for the standard tiles. Attractive weatherproof finish maintenance free. Maximum pitch 45 o. Site Work Preparation Carry out roofing underlay in the normal way, allowing approximately 38-50mm overhang beyond the brickwork/rendering. The outerskin of brickwork must be flush with the underside of the tiling battens. Battening Where rafter pitch exceeds 30 o and no batten end fixing is available (i.e. over brickwork), secondary battens (spanning minimum of two rafters) are necessary, to increase strength and rigidity. Gauge out the eaves course and establish the verge overhang, the distance from the inner face of the cloak verge tiles to the brickwork/render should not exceed 12mm without a soffit closure strip being fitted. Setting Out During setting out it may not be possible to achieve a flush fit by shunting of the tiles, it will therefore be necessary to introduce half tiles, either next to the cloak tiles or elsewhere in the tiling in order to maintain bond throughout. Laying Cloak Verge Tiles Start tiling from the right hand verge, allowing approx. 38-50mm overhang. Lay the main tiles in the normal manner from right to left. Fit purpose made half round block end ridge tiles at either end of ridge, either mortar bedded or dry ridge fix system. Secure to each rafter with 2 nails through the holes provided. Position and secure the top tile battens. Place a 50mm square ridge batten across the Ridge Batten Connectors. Fold up the 4 arms of each Ridge Batten Connector, tightly fold over and secure with clout felt nails. 4 5 6 Position the Vent Flow Units along the Ridge Batten and secure the overlaps with felt nails. NOTE: Ensure that the underlay is turned up the Vent Flow Unit, but does not obstruct the airflow path. (See cross section detail). Lay the roof tiles in the normal manner. Position the ridge tile with the Ventilator Strip and pre-assembled Profile Fillers each side of the ridge. Where a Dry Verge System is used the Ventilator Strip should overlap the Dry Verge Unit while the Profile Filler should be cut to butt with its edge. (Inset) 7 8 Locate the Jointing Gasket on the end of the ridge tile and position the next ridge tile. Secure with the s/s ring shank nail 100 x 3.75mm and neoprene washer provided. Subsequent Ventilator Strips should be connected using the spare Profile Fillers. (Inset) Finish off the ridge ends with a suitable ridge capping system. Where a Dry Verge System is used the Ridge End Cap should be secured in the recommended manner.
