FireFly Star Spiral of Stars 1: Super Me! Super Me! is about discovering yourself. It s all about YOU! 1. Draw a picture of 5 of your favorite things and share it with your group. 2. Have someone trace a full body outline of you or draw a picture of yourself. Color in your favorite clothes. 3. Who is in your family? With your parents/guardians help make a collage with your favorite pictures of your family. 4. Make a list of or draw 5 things you can do by yourself. 5. Learn something new. Discuss with your group how you learn new things. What does it take to become good at your new skill? 6. With help from a Parent/Guardian create a timeline of your life showing the following: when/where you were born. your birthday any significant events in your life so far. 7. Create a collage of activities you like to do with your family and share it with your group. 8. Earn the Gold Club Award
Spiral of Stars 2: Your World Your World is about the world around you that you experience everyday. 1. Draw a picture/map of your room/house. Share it with your group. 2. Make a collage showing what type of area you live in: city, farm, rural, suburbs, etc. 3. Do one of the following: a) List or draw pictures of 3 community services in your neighborhood. (e.g.: library, fire station, community center, park, etc.) b) List or draw 3 things about what makes your neighborhood a community. 4. Do one of the following: a) visit one of the places in your community that you listed in #3 b) list 2 types of community services you would like to have in your neighborhood. 5. Who are your neighbors? Do one of the following a) List or draw pictures of 2 of your neighbors. b) with your parents /guardians help, meet 2 people in your community. 6. With the help of a parent/guardian, do something nice for a neighbor. (e.g. bake them something, pick up garbage in their yard, make them a holiday card, etc.) Share what you did with your group. How did it make your neighbor feel? How did it make you feel? 7. With the help of a parent/guardian, help clean up a part of your neighborhood, park, street, parking lot etc. 8. Earn one of the following awards: Best Effort, or I Make a Difference.
Spiral of Stars 3: Whatever it Takes Whatever it Takes means that you will work towards learning about safety and what to do in an emergency situation. 1. You must be able to tell (or show) your parent, guardian, circle leader / hearth keeper or fellow circle members the following information: Your home address and telephone number. An emergency phone number for your parents or guardians. An emergency contact in case you cannot reach your parents. How to make a long distance phone call. How to contact the operator to make a collect call. How to call 911, or your area s emergency hotline number. 2. You should know where and how to get help in case of an accident or illness. 3. Make a list of emergency phone numbers (police, fire department, doctor, hospital, etc) and place them in a prominent location by your phone. If you need help with these, ask your parents or guardians to assist you. 4. Know signs or symbols for help. 5. Know the hazardous product symbols. 6. Know what is in your circle or your homes first aid kit. If you do not have a first aid kit, make a list of what you will need and begin to build one. 7. Know the importance of replacing items as they were used. What would happen if you used all the bandages in your first aid kit and didn t replace them? 8. Show your circle how to tend to a small cut. 9. Participate in a fire drill at home, at school or with your circle. Know where your emergency locations are. 10. Know what to do if your clothes catch on fire, and share this information with your circle. 11. Earn, or have already earned, 1 of the following badges: Home Fire Safety, or First Aid & Personal Safety.
Spiral of Stars 4: Honesty & Integrity 1. Discuss with your circle or hearth what is honesty? 2. Discuss with your circle or hearth what is integrity? 3. Discuss with your circle or hearth the meaning of the FireFly Promise. 4. Take part in a skit that demonstrates the consequences of being dishonest. 5. Discuss with your circle or hearth what promises are and why they are important. 6. Read "The Boy who Cried Wolf" with your circle or hearth. 7. List 5 reasons why it is important for people to trust you. 8. List 3 times when it would be difficult to keep a promise. 9. List 3 times when it is ok to not keep a promise. 10. Earn or have already earned the Drug Awareness Badge. Spiral of Stars 5: Respect 1. Discuss with your circle or hearth what you think respect is. 2. List 3 ways you can earn respect? 3. List 3 ways you can show respect? 4. List 3 people you respect and why. 5. What is the Wiccan Rede or Golden Rule" (or the equivalent in your faith)? Explain what it means to you. 6. One line of the FireFly Promise reads, "Respect Mother Earth..." what does this mean and how can you do this? 7. Do one of the following: read a story with your circle or hearth about respect. take part in a skit about respect. 8. List 3 ways you can lose respect. How could you earn that respect back? 9. Earn or have already earned one of the following: Hospitality Award, Bright Idea Award, I Make a Difference Award, Never Quit Award or one of the Community Service Badges.
