Grade 5 Required Reading Selection: Students entering 5 th grade are required to read The Losers Club by Andrew Clements. The paperback edition will be available on JULY 10, 2018. As of now, only the hardcover is available for sale. There will be a test on the story in September. Students are also required to complete a reflection response activity to be submitted in September. In order to access a guideline for the activity, please go to Mrs. Cotgreave s website (Summer Reading link on the right side bar) and download the instructions. Upcoming fifth graders are also required to read a biography and complete a biography report form. In order to access the report form, please go to Mrs. Cotgreave s website (Summer Reading link on the right side bar) and download the document. The Who Was? series is a terrific choice, but not the only choice. For those looking for MORE books to read this summer (and beyond): Below is a reference list of book suggestions. Grade 6 Required Reading Selection (both books MUST be read): Students are required to read the following two books and complete the following assignments. The Giver by Lois Lowry A test will be given the first week of school in September on The Giver. Please be prepared! Amelia Lost: The Life and Disappearance of Amelia Earhart by Candace Fleming Students are required to complete a Biography Review Sheet for the biography above. This Biography Review Sheet is located on the school s website and needs to be turned in to your language arts teacher the first day of school.

Grade 7 Required Reading Selections (all three books MUST be read): Students are required to read the following three book and complete the following assignments. The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (YOUNG READERS Edition) by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer There will be a test on this book in September. Counting by 7 s by Holly Goldberg Sloan A packet of chapter-by-chapter questions will be posted online. Please answer the questions WHILE you read the book. Answers must be typed. Please take care to use proper sentence structure and answer in complete sentences incorporating the question into the answer. Include a proper heading as well. Blood on the River by Elisa Carbone This reading is part of the social studies curriculum. Students will take a test on this novel in social studies class the first week of school. Please be prepared!

Grade 8 Required Reading Selection (all three books MUST be read): Students are required to read the following three books and complete the following assignments. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck There will be a test the first week of school on Of Mice and Men that consists of multiple choice questions, matching, and an essay. Please be prepared! Bookmarked: Teen Essays on Life and Literature from Tolkien to Twilight by John Steinbeck Write a reaction paper explaining in detail how you were affected by one of the essays you read in Bookmarked: Teen Essays on Life and Literature from Tolkien to Twilight by Ann Camacho 1. The paper must be approximately between 400-500 words 2. The paper must be 12 pt. font Times New Roman and double-spaced 3. The paper must have a proper heading 4. The paper must include an introduction, body and conclusion Remember proper grammar (mechanics and usage) count and remember to use transition words! BOYS IN THE BOAT (Young Readers Edition) by Daniel James Brown This is part of the Social Studies Curriculum. There will be a test the first week of school on Boys in the Boat. Please be prepared!
