Let dry, and sand to smooth. Base with 2 coats of Cool White. Let dry, then sand lightly again. Apply frog or painter s tape along edge of blue areas. Press edges down firmly. Apply a coat of sealer over the edges of the tape and let dry. The sealer will help prevent paint from seeping under the edge of the tape and keep a clean line. Paint blue areas with Preservation (this is a glass paint, but I wanted the frame to match a set of coordinating glass candleholders I painted with a similar design. This may take a couple of coats. When dry, gently remove tape. Transfer pattern for poinsettia and leaves with white/gray transfer paper. Sharon Chinn This e-pattern may not be resold nor distributed to others. Page 2

Painting Instructions Poinsettia Base the every other petal with Pewter (the larger ones that are in the back), and the smaller front petals with Silver. With Sapphire, float shade the Pewter petals where they are behind the Silver petals, and shade the Silver petals against the center. Dot the center with Silver using a small 1/8 paint dabber, or you can use the rounded end of a large brush handle. When dry, float shade the left of each dot with Sapphire. Stencil - BCS183 Feel free to substitute other stencils you may have on hand. Textured Words - Peace & Noel Use Peace & Noel from stencil #183. I applied the words with Modeling Paste. Position the stencil on your frame (you can tape down or simply hold in place with your fingers). Using a palette knife, apply modeling paste over the stencil like you are buttering bread. Once you have it all filled in (a little knife texture is ok), carefully lift the stencil off. Let the modeling paste dry thoroughly before doing the second word to avoid smearing the paste. When the paste is dry, reposition the Noel stencil back over the raised letters. You may have to jiggle it a little to fit it back on snuggly. Next, using a dabber, tap Extreme Sheen Sapphire over the letters. Apply 2-3 coats for a good sheen. Remove stencil. Loosely outline the petals and center dots with Sterling Silver. Repeat here and there with Cool White to reinforce highlights. Pull some vein lines of Sterling Silver in the petals from the center outward. With a stylus add tiny dot of Cool White to the upper right of each large dot in the center. Holly Leaves Base leaves with Sapphire. With Aquamarine, float highlight the top edge of each leaf and below the center vein line. Using a liner brush, loosely outline the leaves and add center vein line with Sterling Silver. Depending on the level of detail you like, you can pull a few vein lines out from the center vein (in the photos I ve shown some with and some without). Reinforce some of the outlining with Cool White for strongest highlights. Berries Using a 1/4 dabber, make Sterling Silver berries among the leaves. Repeat for the word Pease, dabbing it with Pewter. Finishing I didn t apply any top coat finish because I liked the If you would prefer to just paint the lettering, I ve contrast of the matte Chalky Finish paint background included some typography you can trace onto your with the semi-gloss of the Extreme Sheen paint. frame. Optional - Glitter If desired you can accent the design with Glamour Dust glitter... on the berries and flower center. You will need: DecoArt DuraClear Gloss Varnish #2 Round Brush or a Paint Dabber Traditions 1 Soft White Mop Brush TB122-B DecoArt Glamour Dust Sprinkle on Glitter DAS37-3 - Crystal (optional) With a brush or dabber, apply some clear varnish to the area to be glittered, and while wet, sprinkle on the glitter. Let dry, then use a large soft mop brush to brush away the excess glitter. Sharon Chinn This e-pattern may not be resold nor distributed to others. Page 4
