CALL FOR PROJECTS FOR 2 YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHERS Photography & Sciences creative residency from 1 February to 31 March 2019 in Toulouse with Raphaël Dallaporta the leading photographer > 2019 Edition Based in Toulouse, RÉSIDENCE 1+2 is a Europe-wide photography residency programme linked to the theme of science. The programme is based on an original concept. It brings together three photographers every year (1 well-known photographer + 2 young photographers) and uses three types of media (an exhibition, a box set of three books, and a documentary). Over the course of two months, blending aspects of a residency scheme and a masterclass, the three photographers respectively produce original artistic works related to the science of their choice (human sciences, social sciences, natural sciences, space sciences, etc.). During the two-month residency period, the three photographers live together, sharing their knowledge and their ideas. Consideration and kindness to others are fundamental criteria on this programme. Throughout the residency, in order to promote cross-disciplinary collaboration and drive their research and production, the photographers meet with scientists and organisations in Toulouse. The following autumn, the work produced during the residency is displayed during an exhibition. The exhibition is launched during an inaugural weekend, featuring several highlights. The Résidence 1+2 programme brings together photography and science in order to produce and promote original artistic photography linked to the exceptional scientific heritage of the Toulouse area. résidence 1+2 Photographie & Sciences

Raphaël Dallaporta The renowned photographer for the Résidence 1+2 > 2019 Edition Raphaël Dallaporta was born in 1980. His approach to photography draws on the theme of progress. Each of his projects involves detailed investigative work carried out in close collaboration with relevant specialists. When completed, the projects are published as a monograph. For example, he worked with soldiers for his book Antipersonnel, with lawyers on Domestic Slavery, with forensic pathologists for Fragile and with archaeologists for Ruins. He always takes a scientific approach to his projects in order to study the empathy generated by certain issues in society and to use photography as a language, which can often have various registers and tones. All his work uses photography to present a symbolic vision rather than to simply document reality. Raphaël Dallaporta won the ICP Infinity Award in 2010 in New York and the Paul Huf Award in 2011 from the FOAM in Amsterdam. His series entitled Antipersonnel was exhibited at the Rencontres d Arles in 2004, and from 2014 to 2015 he was a resident at the Académie de France at the Villa Medici in Rome. His work forms part of the collections presented at the Musée de l Elysée (Lausanne), the Fond National d Art Contemporain, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, the Nicéphore Niépce Museum, and the New York Public Library. His latest book Chauvet-Pont d Arc, l inappropriable is published by Xavier Barral. In 2014, Raphaël Dallaporta joined the CNES Space Observatory s residency programme. www.raphaeldallaporta.com Raphaël Dallaporta
