At the heart of this beast you ll find not just one, but four 12AX7 preamp valves with a dedicated Valve Gain, so you can dial in the perfect amount of tubey-goodness. And with 550-Watts of rock-solid, fan-cooled output power your message will be heard and felt! All this Power and Tone, too! We gave the BVP5500 the ultimate in tone-shaping capability. Not only do you get the standard Bass, Mid and Treble s, you also get total command over your bass voice via the Mid Frequency sweep, which allows you to dial in the midrange frequency that best suits your instrument or playing style. Simply choose one of the five settings (220 Hz, 450 Hz, 800 Hz, 1.6 khz or 3 khz) and adjust the Mid to the desired level. For example, if you play in a serious metal band and really need to crank out hard bass, select either 220 or 450 Hz and boost the Mid. Need to scoop out the mids for slap-style funk, choose 800 Hz and lower the Mid. Sweepable mids make dialing in your tone incredibly fast and simple. You can also take advantage of the BVP5500 s boost switches to emphasize certain dedicated frequency ranges. For instance, you can add some top-end quickly by engaging the Bright (centered at 2 khz, +6 db) or the Ultra High buttons (5 khz, +6 db). Want to deliver a knockout punch to the sternum? Push the Ultra Low switch to engage a seriously massive low-end boost. The Tonal Options Don t Stop There Sometimes you need even more of your rig s frequency response that s where the onboard 9-band graphic EQ comes in. Imagine the frequency range of your sound as a highway, a very wide one with nine lanes. Each of these lanes represents a specific frequency range. The first three lanes, labeled 33-150 Hz, contain the really low frequency stuff, mainly the lower string fundamentals, or true pitch. The next three lanes, labeled 300-900 Hz cover the fundamental tones of the upper strings. Continued on next page
The final three EQ lanes (2, 5 and 8 khz) handle the bulk of the upper harmonics, and they can be critical to good sound. BVP5500 s graphic EQ provides total of the flow of audio traffic in each of these nine lanes. When properly applied, EQ makes it possible to hear all of these frequency ranges equally, thus the term equalization. In addition to equalizing overall frequency response of the system, individual graphic EQ s can also be used to artificially color sonic output by emphasizing (raising) or de-emphasizing (lowering) specific frequency bands. Put simply, you can custom-tailor the sound of your instrument by using the graphic EQ as an elaborate 9-band tone. Ya Gotta Have Connections For you non-purists, there s an Effects Loop and an Insert Channel with Preamp Out and Power Amp In connections for expanded versatility. On the rear panel you ll also find one of the handiest DI outputs available anywhere, with an adjustable Level, Pre/Post select switch and ground lift. In the Pre position the signal sent through the DI is pre-everything pre-parametric EQ, pre-graphic EQ, pre-insert-send-return and pre-master volume, just pure unadulterated bass signal. There is a dedicated Tuner jack and you can tune in blissful silence by activating the Mute button, which can also be engaged via the included footswitch. Speaker connections are available in your choice of ¼" jacks or a twist-lock connector that s compatible with standard Neutrik Speakon connectors. Simple Operation The BVP5500 is ready for your passive or active bass, just plug in, start playing and adjust the Gain knob until the Clip LED barely comes on, then back it off a bit. If the LED stays lit, even when the Gain is set at zero, engage the -15 db switch, then readjust the Gain. Set your tone where you want it and slowly adjust the Valve Gain counterclockwise to dial in the level of tube compression. The sweet sound of tubes is right at your fingertips. Need even more? How about a dedicated footswitch that pulls double-duty for Mute and the graphic EQ functions? What about an onboard Limiter or FX loop? How about active, temperature-led cooling? The BVP5500 has all this and more. Coming To a Gig Near You With 550-Watts of available power, a 12AX7-fueled preamp, extensive tone-sculpting capability and its impressive feature set, the BVP5500 is ready for any gig from the local juke-joint to the concert hall. Be careful this kind of power is addictive!
