MATERIALS Lion Brand New Basic 175 (Art. #675) 126 Espresso 2 balls (A) 152 Charcoal 2 balls (B) 144 Wisteria 2 balls (C) 150 Grey 2 balls (D) 106 Ice 2 balls (E) 149 Whisper 2 balls (F) Lion Brand crochet hook size J-10 (6 mm) Lion Brand large-eyed blunt needle GAUGE 12 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm); 8 rows = about 3 in. (7.5 cm) over Rows 1-6 of Panel. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. STITCH EXPLANATION FPDC (front post double crochet) Yarn over, insert hook from front to back then to front, going around post of indicated st, draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Skip st behind the FPDC. NOTES 1. Four Panels are made, working back and forth in rows. 2. Pairs of Panels are sewn together at shoulder to make 2 halves. Halves are sewn together along center back to make the Ruana. 3. To change yarn color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st. Proceed with new color. Do not fasten off old color until instructed. Carry old color up side of piece when next needed. 4. To work around a st "2 rows below", work around the next st in the row numbered 2 less than row being worked. For example, if you are working Row 3, a st "2 rows below" is in Row 3 2 = Row 1. 5. An edging is worked all the way around the outside edge of the Ruana. 6. For those who find visuals helpful, we have included stitch diagrams. PANELS (make 4) With A, ch 50. Row 1 (RS): With A, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across you will have 49 sc in this row.
Row 2: With A, ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in each st across and change to B in last st 49 dc. Drop but do not fasten off A. Row 3: With B, ch 1, turn, sc in first 2 dc, FPdc around next sc 2 rows below, *sc in next 3 dc, FPdc around next sc 2 rows below; rep from * to last 2 dc, sc in next dc, sc in top of beg ch-3 37 sc and 12 FPdc. Row 4: With B, ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in each st across and change to A in last st 49 dc. Drop but do not fasten off B. Row 5: With A, ch 1, turn, sc in first 2 dc, FPdc around next FPdc 2 rows below, *sc in next 3 dc, FPdc around next FPdc 2 rows below; rep from * to last 2 dc, sc in next dc, sc in top of beg ch-3 37 sc and 12 FPdc. Rows 7-86: Rep Rows 5 and 6, changing color as in the following stripe sequence: Work 2 rows each with B, C, (A, B, C) 3 times, fasten off A, (D, B, C) 3 times, fasten off B, D, E, C, fasten off C, (D, E, F) 4 times, fasten off D, (E, F) twice, E, change to F in last st of last row, fasten off E. Row 87: With F, rep Row 5. Fasten off F. FINISHING Hold 2 Panels with RS tog and sts of last rows matching. From WS, working through both thicknesses along last rows, join F with sc in first st, sc in each st across to join Panels at shoulder. Rep for other 2 Panels. Place the 2 halves side by side on a flat surface. Sew Halves tog, beg at one edge and sewing for about 27 in. (68.5 cm) for back seam. Edging From RS, join E with a sl st in lower back corner so that you are ready to work along a long side edge of Ruana. Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, work 165 sc as evenly spaced along long side edge of Ruana, 3 sc in corner, work 45 sc evenly spaced along lower front edge, 3 sc in corner, work 94 sc evenly spaced up center front edge, sc in seam at center back neck, work 94 sc evenly spaced down next front edge, 3 sc in corner, work 45 sc evenly spaced along lower front edge, 3 sc in corner, work 165 sc evenly spaced along long side edge, 3 sc in corner, work 46 sc evenly spaced along lower back edge to back seam, sc in seam, work 46 sc evenly spaced along lower back edge to beg corner, 3 sc in beg corner; join with sl st in first sc 720 sc. Fasten off. Note: The next rnd is worked using 2 different yarn colors at the same time. Each color is used to work a pattern of (ch 5, sc). Each A-colored ch-5 sp and sc is alternated with an F-colored ch-5 sp and sc to make a 2-color twisted look. Rnd 2: From RS, beg at any corner st, sk next 3 sts, join A with sl st in next st (4th st from corner), ch 1, sc in same st, [ ch 5, sk next 3 sts, sc in next st,
